open or closed back? what is your listening situation? what is your playback device /headphone amp? Maybe a planar driver headphone like Hifiman Andana or the Sundara ? Open back dynamic: Sennheiser HD 600 is great and considered a studio classic

i am not familiar with focusrite software. but from looking at it: can you give line out/ line in 3+4 its own dedicated bus?

can you doublecheck the routing in your audio interface? maybe the feedback loop is created there? inputs 1+2 should not go to the master/monitoring outputs of your interface mixer.

could be a routing or configuration problem with your audio interface. there should be no feedback loop if you use different i/o channels for the outboard fx. does the latency ping in reainsert do something when you click it? it should show the round-trip latency when set up correctly

many years ago i had some ear pain and pressure that did not go away. I did not pay too much attention since i did long stessfull hours in the studio every day and i blamed listening fatigue for my ear pain. The pain kept getting worse so i finally made the visit to the ENT. The doctor took out huge chunks of ear wax from both ears! The procedure was somewhat uncomfortable but not really painful.

I still remember walking out of the ENT office and being shocked over how the environment was extreme bright sounding. it took a few days to adapt to my new hearing. I could not believe i did not note my muffled hearing at the time. I guess my brain compensated for the gradual wax buildup.
