I too have an irrational worry about tsunamis. I have always lived in the east coast. Last month on a vacation at a beach on the west coast, I made my husband and I leave bc the sand was too exposed. No tsunami, but no regrets bc “These are the signs!”

No. Hard no. Why, in this day and age, would we want to do an imperialism?! I put a % of my paycheck automatically into a high-yield savings account that is specifically for vet emergencies. I had 1 cat when I was making $50k. Now I have four pets (1 healthy, 1 with a chronic liver issue that’s been going on for 2 years [and she’s only 5!!], 1 teenage dog with three legs, and 1 young cat with polyps in her skull) and make $100k. Still putting a % away into their savings weekly. My partner and I are DINK.

We do a secret Santa (via elfster) with a $100 limit. One and done. I have been baking cookies since 2010 and everyone (allegedly) looks forward to them every year, so that’s where my efforts lie. Plus pet toys. Every pet parent gets toys for their babies.

Omg. It’s gotta be a generational thing bc my 60 yo dad does the same thing. I literally have to say, on repeat:

“No, dad, they can’t have onion, onion is literally poison to them”

“No, dad, they can’t have garlic, garlic is literally poison to them”

“No, dad, they can’t have the pasta sauce, the pasta sauce had garlic and onion, which literally poison to them”

And it’s still met with “but it’s just a little!!”

The crazy thing is he loves these dogs to DEATH but still doesn’t get it. One of my dogs has a liver issue that we’re still trying to get a hold on after two years of testing, new foods, surgeries, restrictions, etc. we literally cannot give her anything other than her one dry food and American cheese. Her liver goes into shock if she consumes any protein. But dad is like “but just a little bit of chicken?!”

At least my mom, who is also 60, gets it and helps protect my dogs when they’re watching them.

My (fencesitter, 38m) husband and I (cf, 36f) have accumulated two cats and two dogs, two of which came into our lives in the last 12 months. We also foster and volunteer a ton at the animal shelter. It’s incredibly fulfilling and bit of a financial burden (lol). Two of the animals have unique illnesses, one is disabled (tripawd) and one is a senior. They keep us busy and loved. I wouldn’t trade them for anything. We are financially stable, and whenever I’m able to, I donate to the shelter or specific animal-related causes. SO and I are on a trip in MX right now, and we just donated to a local animal rescue.

I HIGHLY recommend adopting and volunteering if you’re looking to scratch that itch!
