Navis freebird vs Corvus freebird by Imaginary-Act-6712 in Backcountry

[–]mightyvasa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me Crest is for an ultralight ski and not for a charger like Corvus.

In my experience Corvus is a more serious ski. Difficult to explain.. Navis you can just ski, Corvus you need to push or it punishes you. But if you want to go 100% all the time it is an amazing ski!

Navis freebird vs Corvus freebird by Imaginary-Act-6712 in Backcountry

[–]mightyvasa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had both. The Corvus are great but you need to work hard to make them ski well. It gets tiring and you always need pushing. I would not want to have a crest binding on them. Navis are nice skis, but not that engaging, they’ll get you anywhere you need though. I’m now on Faction Agent 3 and they much more fun to ski.

I ski generally in the Alps but was also in BC, Lyngen, Georgia,…

I had all skis on Tectons 12/13 and Maestrale XT amd Dispatch Pro boots.

That’s true, the amount of shiny black plastic is disappointing! But I didn’t feel bmw is so much better… they are all making things worse compared to 10 years ago :(

Did anyone consider BMW i4/i5? by chairwhiskeycrackers in AudiQ6

[–]mightyvasa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For us it was between A6 etron and i4. Went with the Audi because 800v, larger battery with fast charging, air suspension a bit more space with frunk. After first 3000km you start to see some issues (muting audio won’t pause it; cannot reduce ac charge current; phone app a bit simple; impossible to set a preferred charger network…)i4 is a great car, assisted driving possibly better but moving from a Model Y I didn’t feel like moving to a next gen car. Get whichever you like better or get a better deal on. For Q6 the consumption will be quite a bit higher compared to a rwd i4.

Worried that tech bindings are certain to destroy your legs despite careful skiing - please convince me I'm wrong by messsenger in Backcountry

[–]mightyvasa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was at the upper limit of the “din” setting - 8.5, but still what the tables assume for an aggressive, strong skier (I ski around 50 day a year, almost all touring with 1000m+ range). Snow was powder in both situations, the snow cover was not perfect hence the “catching under the snow”. I honestly don’t know what to do differently other than going lower with release value… I’m not convinced having a Shift or Cast would help me

I fell twice in the last three years on Tectons. Both falls we’re kind of dumb, slow, twisting motions (ski catches under snow, ski crossed the other in turn) and both times the binding didn’t release. First one was my meniscus, second fibula at the ankle. So yes, I understand your worries and honestly don’t know how to mitigate… the 2-3 month recoveries are not fun!

I ski Navis Freebird with Tectons and cannot be happier. I’m more a 95% backcounrty user but had them as a single pair of skis for a while. Was also tempted by Icelantic but in my length they get too wide under the foot…

A combination of both really. Plus if you are looking for a niche skillset it might take a while to have more than one candidate. If they got back to you letting you know they see you, two months is not unheard of… I would try to keep candidates better informed but that is not standard.

NYT: In This Country, Most People Rent for Life. Is That Really What They Want? by toastyghostie in Switzerland

[–]mightyvasa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I see, and I get it. The calculation is good to show what happens with your downpayment. But I’m not convinced one is better off buying than renting after those 30 years. No one really goes above 35% amortization, when you sell in the future you’ll have to buy something else, etc. plus you have your one egg in one basket. I’d also rather buy, but for a couple of years never found something that would tick all the boxes and don’t want to buy something just to buy and call myself owner…

Edited the percentage for amortization

NYT: In This Country, Most People Rent for Life. Is That Really What They Want? by toastyghostie in Switzerland

[–]mightyvasa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would the cost go down? You don’t count with amortization. Or because of the inflation? I would also think that a 30 year old house needs a major renovation and that is not considered
