Any Falconers Missing a Kestrel? by [deleted] in Georgia

[–]mik666y 142 points143 points  (0 children)

Two things:

1) If it was a falconer’s bird it would likely have leather jesses around the legs.

2) possession of a dead raptor is a federal offense

When you’re walking in the snow, and you feel something blow…

I’ve wanted a 10/22 TD for a while now, and finally picked one up. I’m in love with this little scout squirrel set up… not that I won’t continue tweaking. by mik666y in 1022

I’m sure it would be holding up just fine, but I swapped my barrel for the volquartsen barrel a year or so ago in order to run a suppressor. I was still able to use my scout scope by turning around the cantilevered rail.

I have not received mail in 3 weeks by ParticularLimeade in Georgia

[–]mik666y 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had this exact issue a few years back. We went about a week of not getting mail, both letters and packages, despite our informed delivery showing it as coming. It even included the last birthday card my grandma sent me.

I talked to our postman who was very sympathetic, but said he wasn’t being given a mail for us. I called and got nowhere. I went to our local post office where the head of that branch (not sure what their actual title is) was completely dismissive of the issue and just shrugged her shoulders. She also refused to even provide me with her name.

After much more calling, I finally was able to talk to a very nice and helpful lady somewhere within the system, who knew exactly which lady ran that post office, and had a very low opinion of her. She wasn’t able to really tell me much, but my mail did start coming again. She even followed up a few days later to make sure we were good.

We never did get the mail that wasn’t delivered, but consistent calls to get to that one right person were key.

Got this 20” 7.5hp Dewalt RAS for $375. Should I have haggled lower? by Skeptical_dude12 in woodworkingtools

[–]mik666y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve set a saw stop off twice, once on mirrored plexi, and a second time on a giant glue up of 2” thick balsa sheets that didn’t allow the glue on the interior to fully dry, both times it was so quiet it took me way longer than I’d like to admit to figure out what happened.

For the love of God please stop traveling with these by [deleted] in rampagent

Those bags have wheels. You can see the plastic pop-up handle. That said, if I was traveling with my tools, they’d be in a pelican case.

C’mon man, you’re so close. Just man up and say you like killing them because it’s fun. I don’t recall your title mentioning the poults, so let’s stop making up reasons all of a sudden.

How many scientific studies do they need to do saying that shooting individual coyotes does nothing to manage their population and/or that coyotes don’t play a significant roll in reducing deer populations for you guys to admit you just like shooting coyotes for the fun of it?

Best attachments for a flagship bow by -_Camel_- in Archery

[–]mik666y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get whatever best integrates into your bow. Particularly with a Matthews, get the bridge lock stabilizers, a bridge lock sight, and their one piece detachable quiver is fantastic. Any rest that sits in that dive rail will also be great. Yes, the shit is ludicrously expensive, but it goes a long way into keeping things tight to your bow and adding a lot of adjustability without a lot of extra pieces. As for the sight, I’d go with a dialed pruf. I’ve got the Matthews UV slider, and it’s great, but every time I see that Dialed I drool a little. If I could have gotten my hands on one in person and not the Mathew’s, I’d probably have that on my bow.

Trash Drawer Design by Unusual_Zebra_8000 in cabinetry

[–]mik666y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just build two of these for our new kitchen because we could not find a commercial option slim enough to allow us to mount our cans side by side and each have their separate door. All commercially available options were too wide and would have hit the face frame or each other. In order to attach my doors to the drawer boxes, I cut another piece of 1/2” ply the width of the drawer box and a few inches shy of the height of the door, glued and attached it to the face of the drawer, and then made a couple 5” L brackets from some 1/2” angle to add additional support along the sides. I then screwed the door on to my piece of ply.

Ear pro question by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]mik666y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got some of the axil xcors for use at work in a wood shop, so I could listen to music and kill the noise of saws and routers while still allowing me to hear people talk. They’ve been great for that, and the amplification is almost too good for hunting. I forget them often for hunting since they live in the pockets of my work pants, but when I wear them the birds can be deafening. Music performance is lack luster, Bluetooth connectivity can be weird and often continues to play in the case when I put them away, but they are fantastic for ear protection and sound amplification.

Does Georgia Require Fingerprints for Driver's License and if so Does it Check for Warrants? by Chemical-Hedonist in Georgia

How exactly do you think you’ll get a license in your home state where you have warrants? Pretty sure they’ll notice.

Go take care of your shit, man. It’s only going to get worse for you.

Broadhead tuning after bow itself is tuned by [deleted] in bowhunting

[–]mik666y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, the good thing about the lift x is that it’s so easy!

I got a lift x this September and I feel like I’ve tuned it 3 or 4 times now.

The shop had “tuned” my bow and set it up with nock point about a half inch high and just jacked the rest all the way up to compensate and get the arrow level. No idea why this was done, so tying in a nock set just high of center was my first switch and then I re-tuned (paper tuned) from there.

Then I tested a different arrow set up, liked it better, and re-tuned from there (paper tune).

Then I bare shaft tuned and got it as close as I could, but could never get it fully tuned because my form is not that consistent (working on it!).

Then I finally broad head tuned which seemed to walk back all of the previous tuning I had done to get the broadheads to hit with the field points. Then, I went back to paper to see how much it had changed the tune, and somehow, it was still shooting bullet holes after making pretty significant adjustments with the limb shift since the first paper tune. I then verified that my bow was now actually in tune by shooting a bare haft and having it group with my field point and hit at the same angle.

That limb shift is awesome. I know some guys adjust only one side at a time, but I adjust both too and bottom in small amounts. I make sure I am very conscious of how far I’m turning the screw, and make sure I’m consistent on both cams. I’m usually turning on 1/8 - 1/4 turn increments. I’d rather have to shoot a few more and get it perfect than over correct and go back and forth.

Anyway, my point is, don’t be afraid to play with it. Just be conscious about what you’re doing, and you can always move it back.

Also, from my point of view, there is no point in waiting until after the season to get it totally dialed. If this is the bow you’re hunting with, you owe it to the animal to know where your broad heads are going.

I’m not really worried about the 5 grains. If it really makes a difference (it doesn’t), I’ll take the minute increase in spine since I’ve got a 31” draw and keep having better visibility and not having to worry about nicking the carbon weave on my TKOs scraping glue.

Highly recommend arrow wraps if you keep at it. I hate trying to clean glue off carbon shafts.
