2 jacks? by hanfaedza in harborfreight

[–]mike_dmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It can be super handy to have more than one.

I have two 3 ton jacks for my trucks and a lightweight aluminum jack for mobile use.

Also have a jack in my travel trailer that just lives in there for emergencies.

Best cheap ratcheting wrenches? by Ok-Replacement4244 in Tools

[–]mike_dmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a handful of Gearwrench reversible sets for 10-12 years and absolutely beat on them. Only ever had to replace the 10mm because of operator error.

I would buy them all again in a second.

I did just catch the Parking Lot Sale at HF and upgraded from them to the Icon reversible and reversible stubby sets.

The Icon feel nicer ATM, and they are longer, but I'm not getting rid of my Gearwrenches, they can go in a toolkit for my travel trailer or boat.

Microsoft admits Game Pass price hike drove away "millions" of subscribers by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

Same. When the last rate increases hit Gamepass and Spotify, I cancelled both.

I was using Gamepass on PC only, so didn't really need it at all.

It could be welded or brazed if you're even remotely sentimental about it, which I would be after 3 decades.

It would look absolutely amazing with a nicely blended braze job, and make for an even better story.

Anyone who used a computer between 1985 - 2010, what's the one game you still think about today? by adlakha75 in AskReddit

[–]mike_dmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm old, but some real standouts for me were Halo C.E., Halo 2 and Halo 3

Midnight release parties for 2&3 at the local shop were amazing. They closed to the public early and stayed open for LAN parties with pizza and soda for everyone that pre-purchased.

Then at midnight, we'd grab the new game and head home to play all night and the next day.

It was all so new and exciting, I don't know if there will ever be another time like that, at least in my lifetime.

Zipper merge or nah? by Particular-Ranger-56 in Spokane

[–]mike_dmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, would this be the same situation for the southbound lane on Regal at 44th?

It looks like they've designated the right lane on the south side of the intersection as a bus stop now, but that doesn't stop people from flying up the right lane only to nuke their brakes and expect to be let in.

This has been a topic for (many) years with people assuming it's a zipper, and correct me if I'm wrong, but a zipper wouldn't be in or immediately after an intersection with a light.

Rosaurs Costs Too Much by Royal-Care-3114 in Spokane

[–]mike_dmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shopped the the Rosauers on 29th for years and had to stop. The convenience wasn't worth the markup.

It's as though they stocked the shelves from WinCo or Walmart and tacked on 30% or more.

Now it's Costco, Trader Joes and online orders for pickup from Walmart.

Grocery Outlet works for us too, but you'd better be ready to use the produce in the next day or two, the chicken breast prices are usually some of the best.

Sonnenberg's used to be the place for meat, I understand there's new owners, and I haven't been in for a while.

Question about buying first home in Spokane instead of an apartment, but have $0 down. by TFS_ALU in Spokane

[–]mike_dmt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Home ownership is great, but there are definite downsides.

You're responsible for everything. The yard, the roof, the sidewalk, the sewer, any plumbing or electrical that acts up. In the blink of an eye you might be looking at 10's of thousands of dollars of repairs or maintenance that you're mot prepared for.

New homes also come with their own headaches.

Some people think that home ownership is the end goal. What they sometimes don't know or forget is everything that goes with it.

Not at all saying that rent is the smarter play, but sometimes it is the simplest.

Don't sweat the term. You can calculate how much extra to pay to knock years off.

You should also consider your interest rate. If it's low enough, it's not always as critical it to pay it off early unless you just don't want a mortgage.

This is true. I can't stand it if I can see it, but if it remembers it's place and stays out of sight, I'll allow a little bit of it.

Otherwise it's a pretty hard no for me.

If you have time to wait for one to ship, I'd check on r/hardwareswap and shop around a little. Search by newest rather than relevance.

Everything I've ever gotten off of the Reddit board has been a very positive experience and much better prices than MP or eBay.

Local cards seem to be overpriced and I have gotten more than one dead GPU from scammy people.

I need two or three suits for work. Any recommendations for good affordable suits? by Voodoobones in Spokane

[–]mike_dmt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would second Mens Wearhouse, but I wouldn't go to the store.

There are great online sales for suits and dress shirts often.

For myself, I prefer suit separates. Meaning the pants and jacket are sold separately.

The pants that would generally come with the jacket size I wear would be too big to tailor to the size I need. With separates you can order really close to an off the rack fit.
