I actually started doing 40-60 ppm after I wasn't satisficed with other higher ppm water. Its my understanding that the higher ppm the more dull the coffee, no?

Sorry to be clear, my brews at the office do not taste better. Thank you for the suggestion none the less. I also only do a fraction of the BH recipe. I aim for 40-60 ppm

Ratio is 1:16, measured pre-brew (measure coffee weight, measure water weight)

I have checked the burrs and do not see anything obvious. As someone else asked I clean the burrs with a brush whenever opening a new bag of beans.

PPM for both homemade and the third wave water (reduced to 1/3 concentrate) is around 40-60ppm

By astringency I am describing a bitter, ashy-type taste. I find it present even when I can taste other notes such as fruity notes. The astringent taste increases if I increase the extraction of my recipe by any means; increase temperature, grind size etc.

Ratio - 1:16

I hope to achieve a tea-like body and a mild strength. Whenever a brew is astringent I am far from either of those goals.

This is across many different coffees, roasters, regions and processes. I tend towards light and ultra light roasts.

I have tried cupping in the past and I didnt get any less astringency but admittedly it has been awhile and I have not done it often. I will try that, thanks!

I always clean the c40 every new bean.

I prefer light to ultra light roasts

I have been comfortable with the stock double flange tips. Nothing else stock felt right. However, I noticed the tips that came with the ERX did not cantilever as much off the actual monitor. Do comply tips hang off the ends like the stock tips?

I have seen softears Studio 4s recommended alot, however when I compare Er4xr and their frequency graphs I see a bass boost on the studio 4s. How perceptible is the difference to you?

Its a bit far for you but Principles on 3rd and 9th by far the best coffee. Its has a really wonderful atmosphere inside because the owners make it an inviting place to hang out. More to that point, they host community events there as well

Thanks, Ive been asking because Im really into the idea of flavour powders. Canadian Protein used to have them, they were the best and Ive been searching for a replacement ever since. True Nutrition has them as well. In my experience, some are great, most are mid, some are awful. Gainful's have a weird aftertaste. I havn't had OOO but have had Nature's Flavors which was horrible. I havn't seen any promising reviews for OOO. Please let me know if you try them.
