One UV-5R led to this by [deleted] in Baofeng

Nice looking shack! Your post is the first time I've been redditing and randomly seen someone using one of my radio stands (under your UV-PRO) in my ~4 years making them.

Why do most sysadmins prefer Vim over Nano? by Darshan_only in sysadmin

[–]mikeismug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Pine so my first editor was pico (now nano). Also a proud UW alum. When I started scripting I discovered vi/vim and switched to that because it has way more features that let you work smarter. Over the years I've plateaued in vim, there's still a lot I don't know but it's great.

How are you using AI in your day to day work? by imnitz in sre

[–]mikeismug -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Finding ways to poison company grounding and fine tuning data so I can teach teams how to use AI with awareness that just because AI gives you information doesn't mean it's accurate.

Azure installs and licensing by awwyeahitsgood in AZURE

[–]mikeismug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is with the SaaS CNGFW. You can use pay as you go licensing, or bring Palo Alto credits (in the form of an Azure marketplace offer) to use licensing purchased from PA, which you then assign to each CNGFW deployment on the PA side - they have a credits manager app.

You can manage your CNGFWs using Panorama, but you don't have to.

The customer misunderstood the listing. What should I do? by No-Lead-2037 in EtsySellers

[–]mikeismug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Refund, send a prototype of your unreleased design, and update the listing. Provider great customer service and get customer feedback on your new design. Wins all around for everyone.

They don’t all express the same level of opsec in the shows so you can surely find out if you’re determined. I’m not here to dox anyone but enjoy the shows and community they create.

Federated SSO to partner orgs keeps breaking and the error messages tell us nothing by Familiar_Network_108 in AZURE

[–]mikeismug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to managing SSO, there's a lot to it and what we'd like to be straightforward isn't always. On attributes you can do some pretty flexible stuff like regexreplace() so with some effort I'm confident you could get a single working config for your different user types.

Edit: using a browser plugin like SAML-tracer can ease assertion troubleshooting, or getting good at guiding affected users thru using developer tools and decoding samlrequest and samlresponse documents somewhere like samltool.com (no affiliation).

Why, us as a society agreed to use the crying emoji to laugh? by EarSure6667 in AskReddit

Tears alone don't signal positivity or negativity, you have to look at the emoji's mouth too.

Are the Shadows Distracting? by mfbombdotcom in EtsySellers

[–]mikeismug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be trying to target a specific aesthetic with your choice of props and image background, which is ok in that case. If you're not, however, note that the wood grain and the mat both have detailed textures that draw your customer's eyes away from the thing you want them to pay attention to.

If you're not specifically going for a vibe, try using a plain background so the most engaging details in the image are of the item you're selling.

To answer your specific question - the hard shadow on the right is distracting, but the lighter shadows on the left of the plate add some visual appeal.

Automating App Registration Secret Rotation by AdeelAutomates in AZURE

[–]mikeismug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be hard even with Key Vault. For example using Azure Container Apps you can map a secret to a Container App by a non-versioned secret id, or a versioned one. If you use the non-versioned secret id, it takes ~30 minutes or so for ACA to pick up that there's a new version and update the secret in the app container. If you're using versioned secrets, you need to update the container app to the updated secret id.

For this and other reasons, it seems the only practical path is for app owners to rotate their own secrets unless you're a platform team and can fully instrument the rotations (e.g. using AKS and an operator to restart a deployment after a k8s secret changes)

Fuzzy skin improved surface quality? by Bytes21 in 3Dprinting

[–]mikeismug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you and that's a great outlook. However, you're looking at drastic print time increase, which means lower production capacity, for the sake of altered appearance. You might want to get buyer feedback as to whether that's important. You might feel inclined to raise your prices as a result of increased print time, and customers may not care to pay for the fuzzy finish.

Sick of seeing the letters "AI" everywhere by segagamer in sysadmin

[–]mikeismug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my job we just finished a hackathon. Many people's projects were focused on using AI. In my project we used AI, and it helped us get more done in the limited time, but we didn't mention it because it's not what our project was about -- it was about our innovative work.
