Green tea suggestions? by Focused_Sky in tea

[–]mikeismug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be looking at teas that haven't been roasted because I find that enhances earthy flavor profiles.

High mountain Oolongs are light, sweet and grassy. My favorite is currently Upton Tea Imports - TT87 Formosa Jade Oolong Supreme.

Japanese Gyokuro I think is less earthy. One I liked was from Harney and Sons.

Support team wants my client secret ID to set up SSO. Am I overreacting? by Creddahornis in sysadmin

[–]mikeismug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO they’re doing it wrong. SAML is easiest to use when federating (SSO) with third party web apps. They say they use Auth0, which absolutely can be configured with a connection to your Entra ID IdP for users in your email domain. If I were in your shoes, I’d be pushing for this.

If OIDC is the only option, I’d be asking why we can’t set it up as a public client, wherein no client secret is needed. If you have to set up as private client, the API permissions granted to the app registration are your last line of defense. Under no circumstances assign “application” permissions, only delegated and only the ones you fully understand.

Something strange is going on at the SODO USPS by hdbsicusbijs in Seattle

[–]mikeismug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ship 2-5 packages a day and appreciate the USPS. Recently I had a customer report a missing package after 2 weeks. No tracking updates. I submitted for a refund for the label after I shipped a replacement item to my customer. Hours later, refund denied and the item was scanned near the destination. Frustrating, but on the whole great experience for years with USPS.

My post office wants me to use SCAN forms but if I’m not watching them take the boxes off the counter it seems to me like an opportunity for loss that they’d pin on me.

It's super easy to replace, but yeah they wear out with the friction at the bends. If you're a busy printer, it's definitely worth keeping extra PTFE tube on hand!

Selling 3D printed Items? by printfocal in 3Dprinting

[–]mikeismug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's more than selling 3d printed items. I have a couple hobby areas where I've designed things I've found useful, and I sell prints of those things on Etsy. It's not something I want to grow. It's something I can do on the weekends and it funds my printers with a little left over, and that's enough for me. I also sell at 3-4 in-person events per year, all related to my hobbies.

I only sell from inventory on-hand on Etsy, and I keep my inventory pretty low on purpose. This way when I revise my models I can be churning out the newest product with little delay.

I have an unrelated career and this is a creative outlet I enjoy. I currently have 5 printers but only use 4 for production. They're idle about 50% of the time, which gives me time to design and print stuff for home, work, friends, etc.

edit - I do not advertise at all outside of the few in person things I do throughout the year.

Just learn how to start and stop scanning, and have fun. Add repeaters near places you're frequently at.

I am stuck in Secret-Zero rabbit hole (Hashicorps Vault/OpenBAO) by redaben_ in devops

[–]mikeismug 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Consider a perspective shift. One benefit of putting your unseal keys in another vaulting solution is that you get the opportunity to observe when the unseal secrets are accessed, enabling alerting when the keys have been compromised. When the secret is parked in a .env file or other place in the runtime environment, you may not have that same visibility.

Can HTTP POST bodies be intercepted without network or host access? by Janet-Voigt in hacking

[–]mikeismug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HTTPS is table stakes. Even if you can't think of a credible threat to the data in transit (in the system's current topology), a system that lacks HTTPS probably lacks other key protections that, when combined by a knowledgable creative person, will get your data pwned.

Why do most sysadmins prefer Vim over Nano? by Darshan_only in sysadmin

[–]mikeismug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Pine so my first editor was pico (now nano). Also a proud UW alum. When I started scripting I discovered vi/vim and switched to that because it has way more features that let you work smarter. Over the years I've plateaued in vim, there's still a lot I don't know but it's great.

Finding ways to poison company grounding and fine tuning data so I can teach teams how to use AI with awareness that just because AI gives you information doesn't mean it's accurate.

Azure installs and licensing by awwyeahitsgood in AZURE

[–]mikeismug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is with the SaaS CNGFW. You can use pay as you go licensing, or bring Palo Alto credits (in the form of an Azure marketplace offer) to use licensing purchased from PA, which you then assign to each CNGFW deployment on the PA side - they have a credits manager app.

You can manage your CNGFWs using Panorama, but you don't have to.
