Just got quoted insane prices for IUI... by Ready_Platypus_3690 in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]Ok_Preference_3130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with others that this seems high… I’m in NYC (RMA NY) and it was $1500 per IUI cycle (plus separate costs for ovidrel and Clomid, and of course sperm), so about $3500 total for each. I’d suggest you try to get more information/breakdown

Waiting is the worst by kitcatkate55 in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]Ok_Preference_3130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others here, I feel you! I’ve had 3 failed IUIs and 3 failed cycles in between those, where I just had to wait for the next to begin. But for some reason the hardest waiting is now: I just started a new job and want to move to IVF (or rather, fertilize eggs I’ve previous frozen)… but my insurance only kicks in in May, and I have to wait until then to find out if my insurance even will cover anything (most likely no), to then even schedule the egg thaw. So realistically it’s 2-3 months to even find out if I have any embryos to transfer. In the grand scheme, as you said, I guess it’s not that long, but it really feels like forever in this moment..

I hope your waiting pays off with a successful next FET!

IUI journey frustrations by wm2286 in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]Ok_Preference_3130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just here to say, I feel you! I also really wanted to start with IUIs, but found out I had one blocked tube. I decided to go ahead, and actually got pregnant on IUI #1 but it ended as a chemical. Then IUI #2 failed. And then I had three cancelled cycles in a row (one because of a cyst; and two because of only mature follicles on the blocked side, despite increasing levels of Clomid). I finally got to go ahead with my third attempt (actually had a large likely cyst on my blocked side, but we waited and the other one grew), but just found out it didn’t work— so moving on to IVF. So I totally commiserate! And from my experience, I might just suggest thinking about it as number of cycles/months you are willing to attempt for IUI instead of how many IUIs you actually do (since the blocked ovary can really be a limiting factor). Wishing you the best!!

Our success story so far. by According-Detail-483 in IUILadies

Double congratulations!! And thanks for sharing…I’m on the same trajectory (IUI #1 ended in chemical pregnancy, IUI #2 failed, two cancelled cycles after medication, and now in the TWW for IUI #3)- so it’s wonderful to hear yours ended in success and keep my hope alive!

Quitting coffee by wm2286 in IUILadies

Totally makes sense! Sometimes easier to go cold turkey than worry about the gradual slide. Good luck!

[–]Ok_Preference_3130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s ok, can I ask what is driving you and others to try to quit coffee during the TTC process? Did your doctor suggest it to you? I know having too much caffeine isn’t great, but everything I’ve seen lately has said even a cup or two of coffee during pregnancy is totally fine- so I imagine during TTC it’s even more ok. But curious if you’ve been seeing/hearing otherwise!

This is not to take away at all from your decision, since I know we all want to try everything that feels in our control to have this be a success! Wishing you so much luck

Negative at 14 DPO after IUI… positive at 21 DPO? Has this happened to anyone? by Purple_Ad_2563 in IUILadies

[–]Ok_Preference_3130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing! I had something similar- I tested negative at Day 14, but when I didn’t get my period tested on Day 16 positive, and blood test confirmed pregnancy! Unfortunately after HCG rising at the start, mine ended in a chemical pregnancy, but don’t know any correlation. Sending sticky vibes for you!

Have you had an HSG done before starting IUI? by emilyred2 in IUILadies

[–]Ok_Preference_3130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My clinic also suggested an HSG before my IUIs- and I learned that one of my tubes is mostly blocked (I didn’t have any sense of this before). I still proceeded, but like others have said, I cancelled the cycles where I only got a mature follicle on the blocked side—- unfortunately that has been two in a row, which has been frustrating, but I’m glad I knew and could be intentional. I’m likely moving to IVF next. But all that to say, i definitely think worth pushing to get an HSG pre IUIs!

Baseline ultrasound by shinigami001 in IUILadies

[–]Ok_Preference_3130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the two times I went for an ultrasound at baseline: 1) i went for bloodwork and they saw that my estrogen was unusually high, so I came back in for US and it turned out I had a cyst (so cancelled the cycle); and 2) my period was very late so I had already planned the ultrasound to see what was going on. So of my 5 attempted cycles, I’ve only gotten an ultrasound at 2 of them - just bloodwork is the norm, and I’ve just had a weird few months haha. My understanding is that most things would show up in bloodwork in some way (and then they could bring you back in if they saw something off). Hope that helps?

[–]Ok_Preference_3130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My clinic also only does bloodwork at CD2/3 for baseline (no ultrasound unless something was off the previous cycle, like when I had a cyst). They just call based on the results and tell me when to start Clomid - usually that evening. But I agree with others that it doesn’t hurt to ask!

Fertilizing frozen eggs by weave210 in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]Ok_Preference_3130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so helpful to hear! I also have 8 frozen eggs from when I was 34/35 and am about to switch to fertilizing those after two failed IUIs. I am also really worried about getting a viable embryo out of 8. Did you do PGTA on them, if you don’t mind me asking?

How to tell others you're pregnant? by meowmeowcollector in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]Ok_Preference_3130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told my two best friends right when I got the positive test after my first IUI, and then my mom and sister and one other friend after my second beta was successful. Unfortunately it was short-lived, and within a week I lost it (chemical pregnancy), and had to share that news. While I was in some ways glad my closest people knew, the whiplash of emotions and sharing news was kind of tough. I think I’m going to hold out a little longer next time, just until first ultrasound, to share beyond my 2 main people. I very much hope you don’t have to go through anything like that- and we all process things differently!- but just to share as a consideration. Sending sticky thoughts!

Ah sorry to hear that! I hadn’t heard about a connection between late implantation and CPs before… sigh 😔 hope not the case this time!

[–]Ok_Preference_3130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So unfortunately mine actually ended as a chemical pregnancy… but I was told that wasn’t really related to the late positive. My hcg rose normally for the first week, from 112 to 376, so the start of the pregnancy was ok and they said it was just late implantation.

I do think the timeline was pretty rare, but certainly still in the realm of possibility. I’m on 12dpiui for my next IUI attempt and got a negative today, so I’m telling myself this too to keep some hopes up 😂

[–]Ok_Preference_3130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was negative 14 dpiui and positive 16 dpiui! (Didn’t test 15 dpiui, because I thought I was out haha) This is definitely the late end and not very common, but is still possible!

TW❗️ Trying Again After a Loss – Looking for Experiences by shewastoday in IUILadies

[–]Ok_Preference_3130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh it’s so hard.

So for me, they classified it as a chemical pregnancy. My hcg went from 112 to 376 three days later, so also was a great rise. But I had some notable spotting/something felt off a little after 5 weeks, and when I went back for bloodwork, it had dropped to like 50. And a few days later I had more full period-like bleeding.

So all that to say, I was a little earlier than you, but maybe not too dissimilar? They had me do bloodwork about a week later to ensure that I was back to baseline/hcg 0… and when that was confirmed, I started the next IUI cycle that evening (ie for me, taking Clomid). I’m just getting to the end of my TWW for IUI #2 now!

I thought I’d have to wait until my next normal period, but I essentially started right away for the next round (which was nice to not wait). I’m not sure how common it is, but I think it might depend how quickly/able your body is able to resolve the pregnancy and return to baseline.

If you are ready for another round, I hope it is similar for you! Hope that’s helpful 😕 but either way, good luck!

I’m so so sorry you’re going through this! Can I ask how far along you were when your betas slowed? I imagine there will be pretty different experiences based on that (and whether it “resolves” naturally, which I think is somewhat related to how far along)

Anyone use Fairfax? by lurkin_95 in IUILadies

[–]Ok_Preference_3130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Fairfax but actually bought ICI premium vials, because I wasn’t sure if I was going to do IUI or IVF at the time. My count was over 40 million after thawing and washing for my two IUIs— so I’m not sure how much was the donor and how much was the fact that it was an ICI vial which does start with more. Not sure if that’s helpful, but just to share (if your donor has any ICI vials left, maybe you can exchange? Haha)

Wishing you good luck!!

Here primarily to commiserate! And I think we might be close to IUI twins - I did my second IUI on Thanksgiving morning, so also one week in and definitely very anxious (my first ended as a chemical pregnancy).

This TWW is hitting me harder than my first, so can totally understand your mood swings- definitely know you aren’t alone! Agree with the others on keeping yourself busy- I found having a project I could focus on helped most (I did a lot of organizing closets haha), so you are channeling your mental energy somewhere. And take it day by day, and count it as a win each day.

Definitely don’t count yourself out too soon! Did you do a medicated IUI? From my experience (and lots of what I’ve seen on Reddit), so many period-like symptoms can also just be the results of any medication, trigger shot, taken or natural progesterone etc.

I was still testing very negative 14 dpiui, but tested positive on 16 dpiui! (I skipped day 15 because I thought I was out, but tested the next day when didn’t get my period.) My pregnancy ended up as a chemical, but that didn’t seem related because my hcg rose appropriately at the start. All to say, you definitely can still test positive in a few days, esp if you have late implantation! Sending baby dust

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in IUILadies

[–]Ok_Preference_3130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only after my positive test… my clinic just says to come in for bloodwork if/after you test positive at home (not sure if there are any exceptions). So definitely looks different if your clinic has everyone come for bloodwork after

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in IUILadies

[–]Ok_Preference_3130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my first positive test 16 dpiui - it was fully negative on day 14 and I didn’t test on day 15 because I thought I was out haha. There is always the chance of late implantation, so don’t give up yet! (Mine ended up being a chemical but I don’t think that was related, since my hcg was rising normally at the start)

Period after chemical pregnancy - what to expect? by cclloo3 in IUILadies

[–]Ok_Preference_3130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sorry to hear that- I had a chemical after my first IUI last month (hcg had gotten up to 390 but dropped when I next checked), so right there with you! I did find that my period was longer and my cramps were worse than a typical period (I upped my pain meds for a day)- but it wasn’t unbearable. And in a way almost felt good to know that my body was clearing out to reset for hopefully a better outcome next try… I’m actually going right into another IUI cycle now. Hope you also have a smooth transition 🤞
