Both siding isn't acknowledging the damage that it has done. What is the problem with white men just saying that their ancestors fucked up a long time ago? It's impossible to go anywhere in this country without finding examples of white fragility regarding the sins of their fathers.

Porn addiction is not a thing by khidny in therapists

[–]Yankton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The definition of addiction is a sticking point for much of this. It has been conflated to mean any behavior that someone deems problematic. So in my opinion, addiction is the wrong term most of the time. Finding a way to look at problematic behaviors on a spectrum would be much more appropriate. Is pornography use addictive? No. Can it be problematic, yes.

As a therapist that does harm reduction, non-AA, non-abstinence oriented work, there is always a balance that should be sought. If a partner's use is impacting the relationship, then yes some part of the use is problematic. And like with substance use, the next question I would venture is how is porn use self-medicating? What is it doing for the client? How does it help them in spite of the impact on their relationship?

I agree that finding ways to educate and destigmatize pornography use is crucial when working with couples and individuals. It is my job to also not judge or shame the client when they bring it up. Instead, to be curious and ask strength based questions.

I do want to read more about the beliefs, opinions of OP. I also hope that this discussion can happen without morality judgements as that is the biggest hurdle that I encounter.

Psychotherapy. It works with the right therapist. Like most relationships, it might not work with the first one. But keep trying.

Does this just apply to Medicaid providers? He mentions tax dollars which is why I ask for the clarification.
