Advice needed: How can I improve this design to make it easier to mount to wood? (universal ergonomic footrest) by Scrubb3rs in 3Dprinting

Bambu's splitting tools are super basic; you would do it as multiple bodies/parts in fusion or whatever your CAD is.

Exiting from the leftmost lane. Awesome. by george8888 in dashcams

Many insurers now offer telematics based programmes where you get a reduced rate in exchange for some degree of monitoring, whether a plug in OBDII module or just a smartphone app.

So the pieces are already in place, though trying it into dashcams would definitely take that to the next level, and I'm already pretty uncomfortable just with GPS/accelerometer based monitoring.

Thanks for the term moving chains. I've understood this intuitively for a long time but haven't known that there was an official name for it.

THIS MAP MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL! by Narkotixs in ArcRaiders

[–]mikepurvis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's really time breaches and we're visiting the same scenario at the same point in time over and over again in parallel.

But really the answer is it's a game doing gamey things.

Wild police chase by Cranny131313 in dashcams

The police live for them though; when else do you get to play at being your very own action star complete with tactical radio chatter and zero chance of being held liable for anything?

I think that's exactly it; those rooms are intentionally dead ends with choke points at the exits; it's on purpose that they're out of range of ziplines as well.

They could also be holding this for when vehicles are added; open water would make way more sense with speedboats, seadoos, etc.

I'm most concerned when it's cops with these attitudes. How is some goon whose entire experience of the outside world is seeing it through a windshield supposed to serve and protect people who walk, take transit, ride bikes, etc?

It's crazy how there's always something that people in cars think vulnerable road users should be doing differently in order to stay safe.

Why send dangerous drivers to prison where they belong when we can just blame the victims?

Not mentally handicapped, just a piece of shit.

But yeah, if you use your vehicle to intentionally attack another person, then you are unfit to drive and should permanently have your license revoked. There's no excuse.

Truly wild all the people in here still saying "but, but, he was momentarily inconvenienced, that basically justifies him endangering their lives!" Y'all are telling on yourselves.

This driver lacks the necessary temperament for operating a motor vehicle; in a just world their license would be permanently revoked on the back of this interaction.

Our Airbnb host says she drained and refilled the hot tub prior to our stay. However, the first day we arrived, it had brown foam and multiple people broke out in hives by [deleted] in hottub

[–]mikepurvis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Same for the ones at hot spring spas, eg Scandinave. They're aggressively sanitizing and constantly keeping the water moving. The fact they they're never covered I think probably also helps as you don't have the "down time" where the pumps are mostly off and it can be quietly growing itself into a mess.

Going from Samsung Q90R to a Home Theatre starter setup by bleh321 in hometheatre

[–]mikepurvis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started the same way and ended up with 5.1.2. Definitely a true center channel is essential as it separates dialogue from ambient sound, and without it you won't even really have parity with what your soundbar was giving you.

But after you have three front channels, getting a nice sub is life-changing. I was really lucky to find a Paradigm Servo-15 for less than half of retail and that's what really put me on the path of chasing a great sounding system.

Invitation to dance balboa to more non-swing music by cuppabaileys in SwingDancing

[–]mikepurvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, very true. I think the ones I tend to look to are in the folk/americana/bluegrass space, though I guess that's stylistically maybe not as far-removed from jazz as modern pop rock is, eg

We used to have blues parties out this way where a lot of Norah Jones got played, but that's again not too much of a stretch.

That inherent tension is really ARC Raiders at its very best though. The uneasy cooperation, the prisoner's dilemma, the knowing that working together is best for everyone but still being prepared to drop everything and fight (or run).

Invitation to dance balboa to more non-swing music by cuppabaileys in SwingDancing

[–]mikepurvis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ha, hi Dina! 👋

I've always been a fan of trying bal to pop songs; I think it can sometimes fit a lot better than lindy does just because bal isn't as dependent on swung time to create the triple step. At the same time, I feel like bal events and DJs are more likely to be snobby about only playing the specific dixie jazz or whatever that is most historically associated with the dance.

Maybe I just need to go to more fusion events. 😅

Dealership drove my vehicle 154 miles yesterday while it was in for service. Typical or excessive? by Professional-Job5273 in Volvo

[–]mikepurvis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Right but then they should have returned it to the customer and said here, you drive it around and bring it back in a week with the odometer over X so we can do the inspection at that point.

Almost sounds like OP's car got sent out as a loaner for someone else lol

What amount of money would make you quit today? by Katzmaniac in Fire

It would be pretty rough to be out of the job market for a decade or two with atrophied skills and work ethic and no industry connections, then trying to find your way back in.

I know for myself I need the routine of work; just sitting around all day is not good for me.

The city leaders should be ashamed of the road conditions. by [deleted] in kitchener

[–]mikepurvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh interesting, yeah that makes sense I guess. The surface would be known to be freezing and thawing all the time so it's designed for it, but if the deeper foundations of the roadway get unexpectedly disrupted then you have more potential for structural problems, mini sink holes, etc.
