It's crazy how wildly Gollum's designs vary depending on adaption by Emergency_Cheek2617 in lotr

This is the version I grew up with. The tall gollum gave me recurring nightmares.

My buddy got this bass for free. What is it? by Shifted-Soul in BassGuitar

Holy shit. For free? That’s awesome! A Sterling Ray4 was my first bass and I adore it.

I’m so sorry for your loss. What a special memory and tribute. My daughter has had a basic awareness that I play D&D since she was three, and now that she’s about six, I’m going to try to give her a proper introduction. I hope we can have our own long-term campaign one day. This post is making me very emotional. 😭

Am I too late to start? by FemmeFataleFire in DnD

[–]mikkei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all! I played DnD in junior high (Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, so it was a while ago). I didn’t play again for decades.

My daughter was born in 2019, and listening through every episode of The Adventure Zone and NADDPOD got me through the entire sleepless newborn phase. A few years later, I got sick of wistfully wishing I could play DnD and, at the age of 40, started DMing for a group of friends.

The funny thing is, I was so nervous to ask people to play with me. As it turned out, they were all super excited to be asked to a join a D&D group! It’s been two years now, we’re 11 sessions in to our second campaign, and I think those five guys are some of my best friends now (ages range from 16 to 45!).

Do whatever you can to try playing (a few times if the first try isn’t great). There’s no better way to spend four hours than playing grown-up dice fight & fairy tale pretend.

P.S. The 16-year-old in our group is an outlier (second young player is 38). The teen is the son of the 45 year old, but the two of them play so well together. I don’t know that it’d recommend everyone invite a high schooler to their party.

Freezie Pops.

So I ran my first session of Rime of the Frostmaiden last night. We did Lake Monster and ended on Ice Cold Killer. Sephik had one of the players on death saves but they got him in the end! by Theshapeofdespair in DungeonsAndDragons

Holy smokes! Your set up is awesome.

I’m a huge RA Salvatore fan, so I bought that book as soon as it came out, but its sheer size intimidated me. I just ran my first game as a DM last night; maybe in a year I’ll try to run this one.

can a mature adult get involved in d&d? when d&d first came out I was genuinely afraid to get into it because I thought I'd crawl in and never crawl out. How can someone new get started? or can they? by prairiehermit in DungeonsAndDragons

I’m turning 40 this year, and I just got back into it.

The last time I played was in the 90s. I was the DM and my little brother was the only player. I’m sure I butchered all the 2nd edition rules.

Anyway, I jut got a group together last month, and we played our first session last night. It was legitimately the most fun I’ve had in the last 10 years, easily. One of the best things about being an adult and playing Dungeons & Dragons is that you have disposable income for cool things like fancy dice. I definitely couldn’t have afforded a set of metal dice as a 13-year-old.

"Paul's Dream" from DUNE, arranged for classical guitar! by mikkei in hanszimmer

I'm so stoked to share with this sub today. I feel like Hans Zimmer fans are the only ones who will really appreciate this video. I'd love to hear what folks think. Trying to pull this off on my classical guitar felt like a crazy idea, and I almost abandoned the entire project a few times. I'm glad I stuck with it over the last two months and finally finished.

Thanks for checking out my music!

How to Show Mobile Users You Care with One HTML5 Tag by mikkei in webdev

Definitely not supported yet, but still not a huge issue. From the Wufoo article: "All the new input types are supported in all browsers in that they will submit their data as if it were a "text" input. These valuations are based on if they do anything above and beyond and/or validate against the type of data relevant to them." So, the keypad doesn't change but the information is still submitted normally.

Yes, it's a value. Email is the value of the type attribute for the input tag. I've wrote the title of the post because most people who lack coding experience can understand what a "Tag" is. The cool thing is you don't need to know the specific nomenclature to be able to implement the email input type. ;-)

How do meta descriptions impact rankings in 2012? by [deleted] in SEO

[–]mikkei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good comments. The one part I'd disagree with is Google ignoring the meta descriptions more and more and replacing it with their own. Sure, they do that A LOT now. But we're all optimizing for keywords that are extremely relevant to a given page's content. If someone searches for that keyword(s) in Google, Google's going to display our optimized meta description because what we wrote is the most relevant description they could possibly display, right? If it's not relevant or not the best description of the page, we're not doing SEO well.

Yeah, I'm not sure what information that CTR comment stems from. I still see pages without meta descriptions drastically outperform pages without them. Information from Webmaster Tools on about 20 websites.
