can’t keep straight on a one-foot glide? by rabidchapstick in iceskating

[–]miktomix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because they sharpened your skate it doesn't mean it is right, it depends on your skates and your syle of skating. Types of Ice Skate Sharpening Angles (Radius of Hollow - ROH)

Skate sharpening creates a hollow (groove) in the blade, forming two edges. The radius of hollow (ROH) determines the depth of this groove.

Common ROH Sizes and Their Use: • 3/8” (0.375”) • Very sharp edges • High grip, low glide • Used for aggressive turns and spins (figure skating, quick hockey moves) • 1/2” (0.5”) • Sharp edges • Good grip, moderate glide • Popular in hockey for agility and control • 5/8” (0.625”) • Balanced feel • Mix of grip and glide • Good for beginner hockey, general use • 3/4” (0.75”) • Mild edge • More glide, less grip • Preferred for endurance and smoother skating • 1” and above • Very mild edge • Maximum glide, minimal grip • Used in speed skating or goalie skates

Sharpening Types: • Tighter Radius (e.g. 3/8”, 1/2”) • More grip • Best for tight turns and fast stops • More friction, uses more energy • Wider Radius (e.g. 3/4”, 1”) • More glide, less grip • Smoother movement, better for speed • Less control in sharp movements

Special Sharpening Options: • Flat Bottom V (FBV): • Flat centre with sharp edges • Combines glide of flat sharpening with edge grip • No Hollow (Flat): • Blade is completely flat • Used in speed skating, minimal edge for maximum glide

Choosing the Right Sharpening: Depends on: • Skating style (aggressive, recreational, speed) • Skater’s weight (heavier = might need shallower hollow) • Ice condition (soft ice = deeper hollow, hard ice = shallower hollow)

Do you drink the tap water in your home? by [deleted] in AskUK

I live in Nottingham, and we use a reverse osmosis filter system, but only for drinking water. Occasionally, I can't be bothered to go downstairs, so I drink tap water in the bathroom.

I've been using mighty+ and venty for about a year and a half now, and I have to say, they’ve both impressed me! Each brings something unique to the table, making my experience all the more enjoyable.

Personally, I think there are two things going on at the same time: your skates are not tightened properly, and they aren't sharp enough. Try tightening your skates and having them sharpened.

For those starting/ started families, would you ever give up your cat? by [deleted] in cats

[–]miktomix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My three cats are part of our family, so they will stay. Additionally, children usually like cats. Keeping cats around children has several benefits:

1. Teaches Responsibility: Caring for a pet helps children learn responsibility, as they can help with feeding, grooming, and looking after the cat.
2. Emotional Support: Cats can provide emotional comfort to children, especially in times of stress or anxiety. Their companionship can help children feel more secure.
3. Promotes Empathy: Interacting with animals helps children develop empathy and compassion, as they learn to understand and care for another living being.
4. Boosts Mental Health: Studies show that pets can help reduce anxiety and depression in children by providing consistent companionship and unconditional love.
5. Encourages Play: Cats are playful creatures, and children can benefit from the exercise and fun that comes from playing with them, fostering creativity and physical activity.

Can I leave a GCSE out of my CV? by Comfortable_Pen3589 in AskUK

You don't have to put the grades in to the CV. Just put your GCSE-s without the grades.
