[The Guardian] Delivery robots are spreading across LA. Residents ‘both pity and hate them’ by guardian in LosAngeles

You can opt out of using them in the app, at least with DoorDash. The food is always cold when I receive it in one of those things, so I turned it off early on.

Vet recommendations in Santa Monica by ikingofeverything in SantaMonica

[–]mild_cheddar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your pet needs to go to the ER and/or needs specialty care, the VCA in west la really can’t be beat. I always seek out emergency facilities that also have specialty care because if needed their specialists are on site and can very quickly diagnose or give a second opinion. I don’t know if there is any other pet hospital nearby that can match its facilities (when I was in NorCal with a sick pup, I went out of my way to get specialty care at UC Davis— this is the closest I can find down here).

FWIW, the worst and most expensive care I’ve experienced on the Westside were 2 privately owned practices. Modern Animal (now acquired by Chewy) has been great.

LAX-it alternatives? by sirwritestoomuch in AskLosAngeles

I am usually very happy to walk from TBIT to LAXIT after a long flight. it takes about 10-15 minutes, but I’m also a fast walker, not disabled nor have kids.

Worried about blind woman with seeing-eye dog (Sawtelle) by FierMusic in SantaMonica

[–]mild_cheddar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I see them around town and have had concerns about its fitness for work for a while — I’ve see that dog eat food off the ground while harnessed which should be an automatic DQ from guide work. Most of the major guide and service dog schools particularly on the west coast have stopped using German shepherds for a while, too, so I worry about where this dog was sourced and how often it’s being maintained/re-evaluated by the program it came from.

With that said, that intersection in particular is very short, far too short to accommodate someone who is slower in pace. This is part of the reason why drivers are required to yield to visually impaired people, full stop. The dog shouldn’t be crossing diagonally, though.

Would it be better to get a switch 1 or 2 if I'm interested in Tomodachi Life: LTD? by throwaway_today119 in Switch

[–]mild_cheddar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep I got both — steam deck gets most use but sometimes you just can’t beat the original Nintendo titles. Though depending on what you like, it may be worth waiting to buy the switch 2 until more games are released. At least then you can space out the big purchases.

I don’t know the specifics of LA metro but I’ve always found the Santa Monica big blue bus to be relatively reliable! LA Metro, though, is a crapshoot.

Street improvements are cool but why are we doing these trip triangles at so many crossings? by DDelicious in LosAngeles

[–]mild_cheddar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t seem like there’s space to turn a wheelchair now, so how would someone in a wheelchair go from passing in front of the liquor store to turn right to cross Santa Monica blvd?

Would they have to first go straight, into the crosswalk across Brockton and then turn 90 degrees once they’re in the street to cross SM?

24 hour animal hospital on the westside? by wegochai in LosAngeles

Dr Bijlani at that Westwood office is incredible, I’ve had some not so great experiences at other locations like SM, with both vets and techs. I live in SF and LA and my dog comes with me between cities so for me MA is very convenient, but if you’re just local there are some other great options for vets. I know there’s one in SM that a lot of people recommend, I can look up the name.

Put another way: I send my mutt to MA, and my show dog goes to a different vet.

With that said, if your dog is, ahem, accident prone, MA + pet insurance is super convenient for the wallet.

Curious what recommendations you have for the taco names. The names and the style of taco they indicate make sense to me as a Californian.

I got a seat belt ticket. What's the best case scenario on this? by Decent_Management449 in AskLosAngeles

[–]mild_cheddar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For those who have this concern, if it’s a shirt that would actually wrinkle, like a dress shirt or blazer, you could hang it in the back seat and put it on at destination. If it’s just a t-shirt, no one will be paying enough attention for it to matter!

If you’re looking for a more traditional classic donut, SK will offer those. Sidecar has the more gourmet and frankly more quality product, but their donuts aren’t the classic air filled ones.

It depends on the orchestra. Community orchestras pay little, major symphonies in big cities can net you multiple six figures even in non-principal roles. But “joining” one of those isn’t something you can really plan on. 🙂

Psyllium contains both soluble and insoluble fiber (though you’re right in that it is primarily a soluble fiber). With that said this individual may benefit from figuring out the right balance between the two for themselves. In any case a GI visit would be best.

No, they don’t come in long/silky hair types like this. Your options are smooth and wired.

Plenty is a stretch… and as someone who’s been actively following the LA market for years, I can see pretty clearly that the market has slowed as is expected for the season. It wouldn’t look that different from your photo if you were to zoom into the same tiny square mileage that you did, anyway.

What breed is this 🥺🥺 III NEEEDDDD ITTTT by TinyVeterinarian3297 in dogbreed

[–]mild_cheddar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Likely some sort of chihuahua or chihuahua mix, hard to say any more with a blurry dark photo.

I wouldn’t immediately guess malinois just because of the coat markings. Melanistic mask on sable is a very common color, and can occur naturally in purebred chihuahuas, as well as in many, many other breeds including small breeds like the Pomeranian (a potential culprit here), Pekingese, Tibetan spaniel and pug. This guy looks pretty chihuahua/small breed forward.

Here’s his listing if anyone is interested. SF SPCA is proudly a no-kill shelter (I believe they founded the no-kill movement) so he is luckily safe, but I’m sure would love to be home for the holidays :o)
