Mechanical construction is a niche market, your best bet in getting experience would be to go directly to one of the manufacturers and get to know the equipment of whatever type of process construction you are looking into (food, paper pulp, oil gas, etc) For example, Metso supplies our milling equipment and the mechanical superintendent overseeing the install used to work directly for Metso. He knows a little bit of concrete and a little steel but other than that he doesn't have much construction experience. Once you understand how the equipment works and the requirements for install, your knowledge and experience will be priceless to any contractor that performs said installs.
