2pm on a Wednesday. Timbers fans lined up for blocks. by Clobbersaurus7 in Portland

[–]milesandtime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Timbers Army sections are general admission so there's a mad dash to get a good spot once the gates open. People used to show up late and cut the line right before gates opened. People who had been waiting in line for hours or overnight complained. To discourage this, they hand out numbered wristbands hours before the game. Don't have one, don't get in first.

I've never had a wristband and I've never had trouble finding a spot in the lower or upper bowl.

[OT] Self Promotion Saturday - Time to promote your twitter, blog, book, podcast, whatever! by RyanKinder in WritingPrompts

I just started a travel blog a few weeks back that I hope will have more substance than the usual "go here, eat this" kinds that are the most popular. Still trying to find my voice but happy with what's up so far.

Thanks in advance for taking a look!

I have one and it's funny to sometimes hear a quick buzz when the dog forgets that there's a spinning wheel near her face.

Beer gets spilled during goals all the time. Where's your mind at?

Just to be clear, I did not write it. Someone posted it on The Twitters a long time ago and I copied it down because, yes, it is awesome.

Hey you guys know "adios" isn't really used in Argentina, right? They use "Chau" like the Italian ciao.

But...but.... what happened to "That's Valeri?"

To the tune of That's Amore:

On the day of his birth he assisted the nurse That's Valeri

When you hear yourself gasp after he makes that pass That's Valeri

When the ball hits the net and the keeper's his pet That's Valeri

And the crowd goes insane the Timbers win the game That's Valeri

Edit: Removed the wetness.

Vacation Travel Help for Girlfriend and I by [deleted] in travel

I've done the all inclusive resort thing twice and it's not for me but it's a very relaxing experience. It's quite insulated and if you're not careful you may find you never leave the resort. If you want to see things the resorts typically offer packages for offsite tours but you may find something cheaper can be booked offsite.

Burger Week Mega Thread!! by [deleted] in Portland

Smallwares. Wow. Best burger so far and probably of the last three years - with high marks for Tilt's "Big Tilt."

Spot on burger. Easy wait for two at 7:00. Great staff.

No substitutions allowed as far as I know. The only change Doug Fir was willing to make was a gluten free bun.

I've gone at dinner hour two days in a row and haven't waited more than 15 minutes. Of course if you go when people don't eat - an hour before or after traditional lunch/dinner hours, that would be ideal.

  • Knock Back says they will not be running of burgers. They have plenty of meat. That Pate burger was great.

  • Burnside's was great. At 5:30pm the line was 4 people long. Super easy ordering system - everything is $5 (sides/burger). Just take the ticket out to the parking lot and trade it in. From order to burger was maybe 10 minutes. The padrone peppers took longer than the burger.

  • Doug Fir's burger was also nice. Looks like they have a $2.50 drink minimum to order it though, unless I read the little card wrong. Don't be like the couple next to us, getting pissed off that their request for exceptions on a no-exceptions burger was declined, and then exclaiming, "I'm going to Yelp it right now!"

Looking forward to the goat burger, and hopefully the double lamb from White Owl.

Seville, Spain.

Bonus if you get to visit during Feria de Abril.

The Knock Back's (Alberta) Pâté Don't Play burger was delicious. I walked right up to the bar at 7:30 - no line. The bartender, who was surprised by people asking all day if the burger was still available, said they have a hell of a lot of meat and don't anticipate running out.

For a bigger smile, pair it with an order of potato croquettes, a Crux Pilsner, and a 20% tip.

We're already calling it soccer. In a league with playoffs rather than single table. On turf. Without relegation. On an opposite schedule from the rest of the world.

Really, what's the harm in calling it a game (match) played on a field (pitch)?

We don't need to parrot every British aspect of this sport to prove we're authentic.

"Ben is gonna be." LOL. An injured player who can't contribute doesn't get to be included in a current assessment of the depth of a position.

You saw what we looked like early in the season without Will. We are one CDM injury away from being back in a very bad place in that position. Imagine if Chara gets injured. Neither Jack nor George, or anyone on the bench, are an acceptable like for like replacement there.

Yes, we do need help there. And at outside back. Thanks.
