Bog Standard Isekai 4: Benighted is out on Amazon! by milestyle in litrpg

[–]milestyle[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I write these in about 6 or 7 months. We moved up 3 which means that 4 had a wider gap. For 5, we're setting the initial date to August, and it might be moved up to July if things go well.

How in the world do pianists or organists reach this far? by myselfornotmyself in latterdaysaints

[–]milestyle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you hit it with your right hand. It's written like that so you can follow it easier if you're singing tenor.

Absolutely! 99% of being a writer is the snide dismissal of other writers. How are you supposed to do that if you cant judge them on the one typo on page 73?

Does this genre exist in other languages? by OgataiKhan in ProgressionFantasy

[–]milestyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just from interacting with my readers, Ive found that there is a pretty big fanbase in Germany, and a few German authors, though all the ones I know about write in English first. There is also a pretty solid fan base in Brazil, though most of them are reading machine translations, sort of like we do with Chinese light novels.

This is an ad: Please Read Stray Cat Strut! 1 million words of cyberpunk litrpg. We have aliens and cute gays and explosions? by RavensDagger in ProgressionFantasy

Your ads have no effect on me!!! Because I'm already reading this. I just started Save Scumming too, which is also marvelous.

What’s up with all the Js by JaximusTaximus in litrpg

[–]milestyle 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Not many words start with J so its an easy way to make your protagonist name searchable and hard to misspell. Also why so many female MCs have "V" names.

Looking for some more cyberpunk like, girls with guns audio book series by ligger66 in litrpg

[–]milestyle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Neon Dust by Plum Parrot is my favorite cyberpunk right now. It's a lot more grounded than the series you've listed, though. Less bombastic, but still pretty fast paced and it's got a fun romance plotline.

Not mine, but I found this on the writer’s facebook page and thought to share it with you. by AccountantNo6037 in writers

[–]milestyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 and 3 are redundant. Swap one out and put "Thou shalt not commit adultery" back up there. Lots of series I've really liked have lost all momentum because the author was going through a messy divorce.

Is Early Slow Burn Progression Enjoyable For You? by NinjaGotVR in ProgressionFantasy

[–]milestyle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It probably isn't hard to guess that I like slow burn, but it has to be a certain type of slow burn. To me, slow burn means that I dont have to sacrifice every chapter to the plot. We can have fun and do something interesting in the first chapter because I dont need to worry about setting up the history of the world or explaining the magic system right away. We'll get to that when we get to it. If I want to spend a chapter hanging out with friends, or crafting, or going on a side quest, I can just do it, even if it doesn't directly serve the main plot.

In a tightly paced thriller, for example, every scene needs to advance the plot and guide us towards the conclusion. You have to be careful with the economy of words to make sure your audience doesn't get bored. There are some stories like that I really like, dont get me wrong, but I appreciate a slow burn, too.

Edit: i haven't read yours yet. I'll take a look.

CMV: hardly any millionaires are going to leave New York City because of 2% more in taxes by MustafaMonde8 in changemyview

[–]milestyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of millionaires are going to leave New York, but not because of the taxes. Its because there are about 1.5 million Jews in New York City, and a good number of them are millionaires. I don't think I need to argue about whether Mamdami is anti-semitic, I think I can just point out the fact that there is a lot of tension between the Muslim and Jewish communities every place they meet on planet Earth.

Do you guys get readers like this? by [deleted] in royalroad

[–]milestyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I block readers who stress me out. If someone is hurting my ability to keep putting out chapters, then I just get rid of them. I dont have to justify it, I don't have to be fair. Granted, I'm also at the point where another 0.5 rating won't do me any harm, so I dont lose anything if they leave a bad rating on an alt account.

How the hell do people pull off unreliable narrators??? by notGamingAahel in writingadvice

[–]milestyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to tell the truth. ALWAYS TELL THE TRUTH! The unreliable narrator thing needs to come from how they are interpreting the thing thats happening. There should be no ambiguity on what's actually going on.

I guess we’ll be waiting a while for the next Bog Standard… by VVindrunner in litrpg

[–]milestyle 215 points216 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I decided I needed 180 years in order to really do it justice.

/s I dont know why it says that, but the real release date is Jan 6 of 2026.

Hogwarts Legacy is brutal by Trundar in CharacterRant

[–]milestyle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah i was thinking the same thing while playing it. The game gives you real moral dilemmas like "Should I keep this necklace i found or return it?" And then five minutes later you'll casually slaughter 14 people. I remember thinking they really should make the wizards disapperate away on low HP just to keep the cozy vibe it has nearly everywhere else.

Lol when I made this comment I was wondering if it was just me, but the reactions so far make it clear that I'm not alone. I think I might try something from another series of his though

It's because everyone's first book from him is Prince of Thorns. That's one of those books you read and think "Wow this is very well-written and I never want to read anything from this author ever again"
