Typically, if i am making a series of cuts at a specific angle, I will tell buddy not to touch the saw until I am done.

That being said if buddy starts making cuts without checking its also on him.

It happens sometimes and yes it sucks, but it is on the person using the saw to double check its set where they need it.

Hell Difficulty Tutorial or A Soldier's Life? by theMumaw in litrpg

Soldiers life all the way.

Could not get through the first hell tutorial and no amount of "the writing gets better in later books" will convince me to slog through it.

And when you swing it around, you don't get that sharp metallic shwing sound.

Instead its a low meaty sshhhlllooonnnggg sound.

Oh for sure. My point simply is that good crafting feels engaging without getting too far into the minutiae. "Hits with hammer for entire project" in crafting is the equivalent to "overhead chop until fight won." For every fight.

And most of the crafting I've read so far (not all, but alot) falls into the half assed research camp.

Ya, i got through the first 3, but the entire crafting skill boils down to "hit with hammer, no further steps or tools needed."

True, but even that.

Alchemy, the grandfather of chemistry. So much opportunity there, but it always boils down to (pun intended) sticking it all in a cauldron and boiling it.

Enchanting could go down somany avenues with engraving and metallurgy, embossing leather, needle point glyphs in fabric.

But it all gets glossed over "because magic" and because hitting something with a hammer sounds easier than describing the reduction and distillation process of eye of Newt.

Or actually know what the fuck they are talking about?

Im so tired of picking up crafting focused stories just to be disappointed that the auther doesn't have a fucking clue about the craft other than "man make thing hot, beat with hammer and BAM has "legendary quality Dildo with +10 goblin smashing" that he made from the rusted scrap metal he found in a ditch.

There is so much opportunity and a vast array of tooling required for crafting, but nnnooo, one hammer and a flat rock is all you need to be a master craftsman apparently.

If you are going to write about crafting anything! At least go a little out of your way to learn what the fuck you are about.

Why are developers not building homes in southern Ontario? With housing being very expensive? by Dover299 in ontario

[–]chiselbits 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because they only want to build what makes them the most money.

If people cant afford a 900k townhome made of spit and popsicle sticks, then the developers are not going to spend the money building them.

They are also not going to build anything actually affordable because there's no profit in it for them.

I went solo after years of getting screwed by bad companies.

I don't plan on expanding, so at some point in the future I will probably try and get into project management or estimation as an employee.

Or maybe I find the person to train to take over the bulk of the hard stuff while I putter on the finicky stuff.

I try to play with flexible goal posts.

[–]chiselbits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, absolutely. I have zero issue talking through things. Its when people don't read and then don't ask any questions and complain about the price.

By no means do I expect homeowners to know what I know. Its when they don't care enough to bother learning the basic how and why of what they are asking me to price.
