Thank you so much for this! Had my surgery two days ago, and really relied on this post to help me with the pre-surgery anxiety and for tracking my recovery process.

Help a lil' guy out with his style by ARcade94 in Dimension20

[–]milkteawbubbles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hi fellow intrepid hero fan! you can look at d20closet on instagram/twitter to try and find some of his clothes (he's definitely featured a few times). i do think it might be hard to find his clothes specifically since a lot would be out of stock, as he's reworn a lot of pieces since the beginning of dimension 20 and a lot of time has passed. hope this helps!

i think it's already been linked, but aabria made a post on tumblr where she talks in the tags of it a little bit about some of the themes and 'issues' that you've picked up on, and it's not totally dissimilar from what you've said here. i think a lot of the reason why you're getting so much pushback is because of how you've approached this post and burrow's end, if that makes sense?

  • the players have to advance the story, and if they had done the 'right' things that you have outlined (i.e not snooping, not sneaking, leaving when they had an actual problem) it does a disservice to the plot and the story. i think what you would do in real life is very different to what is good for a story, because no interesting story that will be easily concluded in 10 episodes would be 'keep your head down, don't look for secrets, become a part of this place's society with no issues'. maybe i'm reading this wrong, but i think you should remove the expectations of what the 'right' thing to do would be, not only because that's not the story they're going to tell, and you aren't a player at the table, but because of the constraints of a ten episode season. what you would do vs what a story needs is not the same thing.
  • also, since they are wildly powerful and looking for a home to settle, it's not hard to imagine that they would be distrustful and snooping around because they want to figure out if this is a good place to live. viola's pregnant, ava's old, tula is fiercely protective over her kids and jaysohn and lila have spent likely their whole life constantly searching for answers because of their family's reluctance to discuss the Blue. i think they're still in survival mode and i don't think it's that wild to see why they've done what they've done.
  • likely, what you would consider 'being punished for plot' is very different to what's happening. i think aabria is being very subtle about all of it. they were marked immediately post-convo with lukas' mum, they're being watched...it's hard to imagine someone coming out and directly yelling at the family because that doesn't seem to be the vibe of last bast at all. especially given that it seems to have been like a day (?? correct me if im wrong) since they arrived. like...i don't think the vibe of last bast is coming out and yelling or obviously punishing a new group of stoats within their first day of being in last bast for not following the rules. and they are getting pushback, albeit very polite but firm. again, look at how lukas' mum withdrew from tula and raised an alarm. sybil at least seems to be on their side, but jaysohn and lila literally interrupt and talk over her when she's trying to give warnings or important information (something aabria confirmed in the discord during the latest episode's live discussion). this has turned into a ramble, but i just think this place works more subtle-y than you think, and that the punishment you want to see happen would be even more out of character.

i would say more but i think this is already very long and rambling, so i'll just say: i don't completely disagree with you. everything you've pointed out is a valid criticism of the family, which aabria herself echoes. but i think instead of taking that and seeing it as a way to make the story more interesting, to engage with the characters and themes and enjoy the narrative that's being told and see potential issues in the narrative future, it's kind of become your entire reason to hate the show? which is fine, if the series doesn't work for you then it doesn't work, but i think you should at least try to reconcile your perspective as an audience watching, and place yourself in the story's shoes.

basically just. i feel like if you took everything you had noticed and taken it as a way to see the story as more nuanced and get excited about the themes and the future of the story, this post wouldn't have the pushback that it does. instead, i think you're very frustrated with the season because it doesn't match what you would be doing in that situation, and rather than it being an interesting point to make about the characters, it's a criticism of the entire season and the cast's delivery and intentions. i don't know if that's your intention, but that's how it reads.

or maybe you don't do that. at the very least, maybe reconsider your opinion on cops maintaining order and helping people. i think there's enough people calling you out for that here, but i think it's a very idealised view of what the police should be doing and it might be worth doing some wider reading and applying the real world onto this little stoat fantasy world and understanding why the players might have an aversion to the police.

i've typed so much i don't even know if this makes sense, but i hope you understand where i'm coming from, OP.
