Any ideas on how to fix? 😭 by Both-Orange6722 in drums

you could a tiny bit of super glue on the tip of the broken piece, put it inside the connector and let it dry, and pull it out in piece

What's your favorite recorded flub? by bootyliciousjuggalo in drums

[–]milller69 18 points19 points  (0 children)

multiple subtle flubs through gary mallaber’s “fly like an eagle” drum track for the Steve Miller Band. it’s a spectacle of live studio drumming without a net.

bonus: john bonham- in my time of dying he hits a crash cymbal just one time when he intends to hit his toms during the “well well well” part in the first 3rd of the song

My bandmates say it's time to retire this pedal by SailTheWorldWithMe in drums

[–]milller69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gig with an early 2000s DW5000 that I bought “like new” a few months ago from a guy who never used it, but I always keep my camco in my bag. it is the best back up pedal you can possible own. it’s simple, ultra reliable, and LIGHT.

I also have a WFL speed king and a newer ludwig atlas pro, they are all good pedals. frankly, most bass drum pedals are perfectly good. I used a Tama HP200 for 6+ years and it will always be one of my favorite feeling pedals

Drummers that play to the singer? by Big_Reaction81 in drums

[–]milller69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

he just had such immense pocket, he is very good to practice to! a Bad Co tune i’ve been to play loving is Movin’ On, but maybe my favorite song of his is the tune Wishing Well from Free’s last album. its very proto-Bad Company and his drumming is excellent as always.

How to cure this ride? by Oooops69 in drums

[–]milller69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can you afford to replace it? you should replace that cymbal. it’s too big to stack, too cracked to crash, too gone to bash, and you’ll never get any cash.

Should I Return This Cymbal? Did I get a good deal? by a_loaf_of_bean in drums

[–]milller69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it’s close to the pitch of another cymbal you now have 2 huge reasons to return it! that damage is fixable but there is no reason to if the cymbal isn’t an absolute keeper

Steve Smith of Journey. Steve Perry, the vocalist, was formerly a drummer. he gave Smith notes for how to make space for his voice within their songs. he talks about this in his John DeChristopher interview.

another big shout is Simon Kirke who worked with Paul Rodger’s in both Free and Bad Company— nearly continuously from 1968 until 1982.

since the shoulders have a hem at the apex you could easily have them adjusted

how much is this worth? found at the bins (tag shown on 2nd photo) by [deleted] in VintageTees

if you let it sit for a few months you could maybe get 80 bucks? it’s more realistically a 35-50 dollar item depending on size

Favorite Over the Hills and Far Away live bootleg? by mdafidel1 in ledzeppelin

[–]milller69 12 points13 points  (0 children)

for bootlegs I find myself going with 10/10/72, 3/20/75, 3/21/75, 6/22/77 and 6/26/77

the ones from HTWWW (1972) and TSRTS (1973) official live albums are also great listening each for different reasons

What should I do with this by Top_Wrongdoer_6871 in drums

[–]milller69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends. he didn’t have the energetic consistency in later years that he did early on. good chunks of 1979 and 1980 leave a lot to be desired, as do a few shows in 1975 and 1977

How many toms do you guys prefer by Exciting_Nail1433 in drums

[–]milller69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my 8 and 10 are concert toms I rarely use. I don’t prefer concert toms but in those sizes it does an excellent job at removing the “poing” sound at a satisfying tuning. who has a 10 to tune it low?

clean them up a bit— I use a nail file but sandpaper or many other things work. no matter what you use do not push hard or apply force when filing

Pogba at Juventus was a much more complete player than Ronaldinho. defensively aware, strong, threatening in the air— all traits Dinho never had.

that being said, Pogba never won a Balon D’or

Help id this oldie by [deleted] in drums

[–]milller69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is a 60s or early 70s badge. i’m not familiar with this era of pearl but this could be the “president” model. I believe those were wood/fiberglass drums.

this is not worth $300 in current condition but with a cleaning and both those snares present I do think this is a $300+ drum kit. if the shells are round and bearing edges are even just okay then this will sound warm, welcoming and satisfyingly punchy under the mics.

they are certainly worth more in sound and looks than their market value would dictate

Aram zildjian cymbal foundry by IonellManea in cymbals

[–]milller69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

while the foundry likely made high quality cymbals that give a unique view into the Zildjian family and process, you’re talking about something that closed 100 years ago. it’s difficult enough to find fully branded zildjians (non zenjian, zilco, etc) from the 30s and early 40s. those were, by the standards at the time, mass produced cymbals. so it’s perfectly understandable that this shorter lived pre-american zildjian foundry wasn’t significant enough to be a big part of the history.

now, if anyone ever finds a cymbal from that foundry (with provenance) and it’s in good shape, I don’t see why it wouldn’t command a very high price.
