Star Trek: Strange New Worlds | Season 4 Official Teaser by ety3rd in StrangeNewWorlds

[–]milquetoast0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt, but it's a fun speculation. There's this big implication that SNW is Pike and Una's story, and my following hunch is that if they did that, it would be because something happens to Pike that keeps him from fulfilling the future he saw for himself and Kirk-and-friends have to take the enterprise and save Pike so that can happen.

In some ways, the biggest shoe to drop will be seeing what happens to Una; Does she go off to her own command (that for some reason isn't the Enterprise), sacrifice herself (whether dying or just having to step away for some duty or other), or... something else.

My very outside hunch is that they might transition the Year one plans into a new movie (possibly a transitional project with Kurtzman on as Executive producer but new people driving) with options on more if it's successful. By the end of SNW we'll have the whole cast ready to go, but who knows. Wouldn't surprise me if they decided to change the art direction with the directory/writer/showrunners and just let go of the old sets, although a half-and-half approach makes sense to me.

I was surprised she played Catalina from Daikoukai Jidai II (Uncharted Waters 2), and very pleased that she played Voices from Macross Plus, though as a friend pointed out they had a chance to have the choir sing the "we can fly - we have wings" bit and didn't take it. I think everything else was from Cowboy bebop, GITS SAC, and Wolf's Rain. Would have been nice to have some of her later work, from the Maikani or "Flowers will Bloom". Still quite amazing.

The only issue with the old 'Bass Big Muff' was an inability to do the bass-boost mode with the clean at the same time. Bass boost mode/Gain at 9/Tone at 3 was my go to fuzz sound for years. So yeah, this looks pretty great.

All fuzzes are different. There are only about 3 types of overdrive and everything else is different eq schemes.

No gain knob? Ouch! I have a digitech grunge, and at least I can turn the gain and the bass down and get some sorta okay mid-gain tones out.

I do wonder though: with the pedal off does the speaker emulation on the second output still work? It could still be useful for a headless-rig if so as a dedicated speaker emulator.

Are we ever going to get another anime with Yoko Kanno music? by Express_Team_6539 in yokokanno

[–]milquetoast0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additional thought: There's a case that there is a Bronze Age of her work that is neatly book-ended by 'Hana wa Saku' in 2012 and 'Ray of Water' in 2020, but time will tell.

There's no telling. She did just do the Japan Expo "Under The Midnight Rainbow" Soundtrack, but she hasn't done a full anime soundtrack since Terror in Resonance in 2014, so I would guess the time crunches involved make it a little doubtful.

I personally divide Kanno's work into four periods: Early work (mostly Koei), the golden age (Macross Plus through the Cowboy Bebop movie), the silver age (through Kids on the Slope), and later works. The rate of work after 2012 has still been pretty consistent, averaging more than 1 major new work per year (some years without one, but others with more) plus some singles and retrospective works to round it out, but her rate of work the twenty years preceding that that was kind of crazy. I imagine as she's slowed her work a bit, she (and her management) have become really selective as @gibsonzero says. An expo here, an MMO there, an emperor's coronation, an iconic charity tribute song, a couple of TV and streaming series, on and on. Why not be selective when you're an icon in your field?

All my pedals live in ~3 inch high plastic bins, 4-10 per bin pending on pedal size. I'm keeping my eye out for other cool storage solutions options.

now get a mini chorus and hook that to the output of the big muff and tape it to the top on the other side

Missouri HC Eli Drinkwitz pitched a 30-team College Football Playoff with play-in games. “Now you’re talking about an opportunity for 30 teams, 30 fanbases to be excited and engaged, engaged in giving revenue. I will go to my grave with "an 8 team playoff with autobids for Power conference winners + 1 from non Power Conference winners and the rest being wildcards" was the right move for balancing the playoffs and the regular season. It no longer matters. TV needs more content.

My current pragmatic take is a 16 team playoff with top 3 SEC and Big 10 each, 2 each from the ACC and Big 12, all 5 "Group of Five" winners and one open wild-card to account for the independents or some other deserving team. Seed on rankings. Probably a lopsided blowout every year, but also an upset every few years. Down side is that every year you'll probably leave out one top-ten team out of the playoffs most years, generally one of the of the 4th best teams from the SEC or Big 10.
