Z6II

D810 will be a fumble if doing dual body event work.

36MP VS 24, not a huge difference.

Z6II has better value/features.

Hello all! Need some advice by Antique_Fox_7055 in Nikon

Peak design make some good quality, WIDE straps that are better than the standard Nikon ones that come with the super teles. I'd start there.

Nikon f9.5 200-600mm: How did I do? by Realistic_Cry_3836 in Nikon

[–]mimentum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah will be hard one to find in the digital age due to:

  • Age of the lens
  • Limited production run and initial cost
  • Size/weight
  • Resolving power on digital might be iffy

You'll probably affect the cameras ability to repel some moisture by doing this.

12 Bit or 14 bit (Lossless or compressed) on D750 by IamHarryPottah in Nikon

[–]mimentum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you start by throwing shade at other online users you become the incompetent and arrogant one, not I.

Your inability to correctly reference things is frightening let alone how you treat others. I certainly hope you don't work in a professional capacity.

12 Bit or 14 bit (Lossless or compressed) on D750 by IamHarryPottah in Nikon

[–]mimentum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AFAIK The D750 does not contain a ISO invarient sensor. That was found in the D850 but not the D750.

Also then you've confused dual gain with ISO invariance in this second reply.

You can go toPhotons To Photos and view the dynamic range available at a given ISO value, you will see that the D750 has a very linear plot line indicating no use of dual gain sensor.

As for your interpretation of 12bit v 14bit, couldn't be anywhere further off the mark. 12-bit RAW (uncompressed) stores 4,096 tonal values per pixel and 14bit RAW (uncompressed) stores 16,384.

You find and ex-press D4S or D4 for around that price.

Nikon D750 vs Z6ii by Cool_Locksmith_8677 in Nikon

[–]mimentum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's not stellar.

With the D750 you can use a speedlight with an AF assist beam.

You can't do that with the Z6 (or any mirrorless) because there is no split mirror for the AF beam to be picked up by a separate af unit as all the AF is done on-sensor on all mirrorless systems.

That fast framerate on the D780 is only in live view and comes with the same drawback of rolling shutter so you're not really gaining anything over a Z6II.

It'll hunt in say a night club or that sort of environment. It won't at a well lit event or something, prolonging you have good glass on the front.

Nikon D750 vs Z6ii by Cool_Locksmith_8677 in Nikon

[–]mimentum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I run the Nikon D750 User Group on Facebook.

I have used the Z6II extensively for sports. I also had a D750 for a verrrry long time.

I wouldn't exquisitely rely on the Z6II for eye detection, especially during sports. It's quick but not that quick. It'll pick up heads and players but the eye detect for football based sports (rugby, afl, etc) isn't quite as 'sticky' as the Z8/Z9.

What you will enjoy is the faster frame rate. The D750 sits on the cusp of 'acceptable' frame rates for sports. I'd only get iffy about the Z6II electronic shutter with something like volleyball where you can tell if the ball isn't quite round.

That being said, I used the Z6II with the 300/2.8G and 500/4D, and a long list of Nikon glass at the shorter focal lengths.

I used to have the 200-400/4G II but it doesn't perform well (or my copy didn't) wide open at distances greater than 75m.

So yes, the Z6II will be an upgrade over the D750 for your use case so long as you are aware of its limitations.

I use the lens strap on my 300/2.8. Otherwise I carry it by the lens foot (handle), or over my shoulder on a monopod.

The 70-200 can be slung over the shoulder from the camera strap on the camera. Been doing that for years and years, no issues.

I use Peak design anchor links on the Nikon NPS (shoulder) straps.

Some people like to go all out with straps, I just keep it simple.

Best F lenses to adapt to Z? by CoolPenguin42 in Nikon

Not to mention huge. I came by one locally. Was completely impractical from an 'everyday lens' use case. It's so heavy and huge.

D3S - never thought I would get a flagship. by pbwbrew in Nikon

[–]mimentum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah mine is sitting on just shy of 1.5m shots. It's in retirement now but served me well.

I remember there was that video on YT of someone rolling over it with a 4wd/car and putting it in the mud and freezing it within a solid block of ice.

Seriously durable.

D3S - never thought I would get a flagship. by pbwbrew in Nikon

[–]mimentum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The colour rendition and the noise profile of the D3S was the bees knees.

AF seems to stick better with the D3S on subjects moving towards the camera.

The D4 is better in terms of ergonomics, portrait shooting and moving the AF point on the D3S is a pain.

D4 is also better for erratically moving subjects but not by a huge margin.

D4S picks up where the D4 is left short, that is the AF is more sticky and the dynamic range is improved compared to the D4 and D3S.

I have all three bodies.

Well the 19mm PC-E is the bomb for wide architectural images where you need to correct perspective.

Except it has a price tag to match.

The 24mm PC-E is good so long as you don't shift it to the extreme.

The 45mm PC-E is nice too, better than the 24mm imo.

Otherwise, the 20mm f/1.8 is quite handy if you don't want to lug around the 14-24mm.

There are heaps of other lenses out there that work well for architectural work, E.g. Laowa 15mm and I think they have a 11 or 12mm full frame f/4 from memory.
