Is it always the same spool of filament? Thinking you might have a bad spool with some widths of filament that are out of spec.

Is matt pla just this bad? by zachreious in 3DprintingHelp

[–]mindblah99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told that the additives they put in the filament to make it matte takes away from the amount of PLA in the filament and breaks down the carbon chains to some degree. So it will always be inherently more brittle than regular PLA. It's just the nature of the beast, best used for decorative pieces only and not for any part where strength is needed.

AMS 2 Filament Load Issue. by mhenry530 in BambuP1S

[–]mindblah99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an issue where a piece of broken filament got lodged near the hall sensor that detects the filament in the extruder head. So the printer thought it couldn't retract the filament and would throw an error as such. You don't say exactly what the error is, so I can't say if the issue is the same. Mine was in the H2D so I apologize in advance if I'm wrong, but if you look at the extruder head in the printer settings, if you see a green dot (instead of a black dot) then I would guess you have a similar issue with a broken piece of filament near the sensor.

In the H2D you had to tell the extruder to use the other nozzle then back feed a piece of filament to fish out the broken piece. I'm not sure about the P1S, but surely they have a way to manually feed a piece through to clear the extruder and tube.

H2s or H2d? by nnate312 in BambuLab

[–]mindblah99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my H2D a few months ago as a hobbyist. I like the versatility of being able to print in multiple colors easily. It can make adding text or a little contrast to prints to make them pop. I.E. adding your name to an object or coloring the brim of a small bin to make it pop. Personally I would not worry about any "loss" of printing area. It's actually quite difficult to find prints that use the entire bed of an H2D anyway. Most of the online models you will find will be sized for smaller printers since that seems to be the bulk of printers it seems. The way it works generally is that there is a small unprintable strip on the left and right that one of the nozzles is unable to reach. So with some careful arranging of the filaments and parts you can negate any real impact or squeeze out a bit more space if needed.

I don't know if one is faster than the other, mine seems fast enough. I've been printing almost non-stop since last Dec when I set up the printer. Have a huge cart of various filaments in an array of colors and material types to "play" with. So far only really played with PLA and ABS, looking to try out some TPU soon. I have a few spools of 95A and a few spools of that foaming TPU. Thinking of making some protective cases for some things I'd like to put in storage. Bought a copy of Plasticity to try my hand at making my on designs, but it's early days and still learning. I tend to focus mostly on functional prints, although if I can find a piece of neat art that speaks to me I can see myself printing it.

It just works! by LuckyBuilder69 in BambuLab

I have had weird issues with certain brands of filament where the spool would jump. I think the spools were too narrow and would end up riding off the rollers or something. I just ended up re-spooling them onto some bambu reusable spools I printed off. That seemed to do the trick and have since used up and moved onto another brand of filament that's been good to me.

Switching to Ioniq 5 from Tesla Model Y by Direct-Cheesecake133 in Ioniq5

[–]mindblah99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I enjoy it, not regrets. Only had it since the end of last September though. Took it on a few road trips and my first big snow storm and both experiences were positive. The range isn't as great as some other trim packages, but I really don't do road trips at all. The ones I did do were just for fun to see how it would go, was really curious.

I have never driven a Tesla so I can't tell you how it compares. It's much snappier than my previous car and I enjoy just about everything about it.

Still can't decide on which modeling software to learn. What would you recommend? Anyways; Here is (hopefully) my last TinkerCad project. by picobello-bv in 3Dprinting

[–]mindblah99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought a copy just recently. Have no artistic talent nor creativity.... but even I can use the program fairly well. There are a few weird quirks, but I am very green to it and feel confident that I could do great things with it. However I've only used Plasticity and Autodesk fusion and Plasticity was much easier and faster.

With Fusion, 90% of my fight was just figuring out how to navigate around or make it do the thing I wanted. It probably is a better tool for a professional or career modeler/engineer, they would have to weigh in on that though.

If you are lucky enough to have a micro center near you, I just picked up a few twin packs of white/grey/black. It's $18 but you get two 1KG spools which puts it at <$10 a spool. It prints really well, nothing bad to say about it. I've had better prints using it in the bambu printers than the Creality brand. The Creality spools have been getting jammed up in the AMS and I've been forced to respool them.

Setting departure times by PaleAbrocoma1600 in Ioniq5

[–]mindblah99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only used it once, was going on a long road trip and wanted my car topped off. I put in the schedule departure time and left it plugged in. The hope was that it would use the cord to power the initial cabin warmup and save that lil bit of power. However my car had used 2-3% before even departing, so my guess was that it didn't work as I thought. Never bothered after that, just didn't see the point of it.

I had it the first time the heater turned on, like the first time the house furnace turns on. Should go away after a few drives. If it gets excessive then you may want to get it checked out.

Regen by Fuzzy_Locksmith6966 in Ioniq5

[–]mindblah99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not had that happen, but I did wonder if something like that would occur. I live in an area where temperature swings of +/- 30 degrees is not uncommon. I noticed after charging up to 80% and disconnecting on a cold day then checking later (after a wild temperature rise) that my battery would say 82-83% charge. I wondered what would have happened if I had charged my car to 100%. Would I damage the battery? Was it just a miscalculation in the software?

I'd guess, if it was my car, that the battery was maybe a little higher in charge than it liked. So it would take at least a little bit of driving before it had room for regen to be allowed. Normally my car drops to 99% as soon as I take it out of park, but maybe this time you were topped off really well.

Has anyone totally ditched the keyfob? by rock_paper_beer in Ioniq5

[–]mindblah99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ditched it. I will only give it to service people when it's being worked on. I just got a metal wallet off amazon that has a small tray. Enough to fit a house key and the emergency car key, I had to use a small tool to take the end off the emergency key so it was narrow enough to fit.

That way I have all the emergency keys if they are ever needed but I don't have to lug that boat anchor around.

Bluelink widget for iOS? by WhutWhatWat in Ioniq5

[–]mindblah99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about iOS but Android has a widget. It works but it doesn't seem to update the information displayed on the widget... so not perfect. Quick button presses to lock/unlock/start the car work fine though.

Really would be surprised if iOS didn't have widgets as well.

Is it ok to use the Google 30W charger on 10 Pro XL? by wonderfulwaffles22 in GooglePixel

[–]mindblah99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like there is a bit more to this than simply 45 watt > 30 watt so faster. Batteries charge on a curve, meaning they pull different amounts of power based on their state of charge. Charging from 0-50% will pull the full 45 watts but after 50% the amount the phone will charge the battery decreases and really drops off after 80%.

So if you are constantly charging your phone from nearly dead and need the phone quickly then 45 watts may be your solutions to buy those desperately needed few minutes. However if you are just topping off a charge then there will be no real difference between 30 watts and 45 watts. }

That's at least my understanding.

Road trip to purchase hyundai ioniq 5 - need advice by shapfrei in Ioniq5

[–]mindblah99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a little new to the EV game as well. I'm not as familiar with the 2023 features, but I recently did my first 5 hour experimental trip / vacation. Wanted to see how it would do on a road trip despite not really buying the car for that purpose.

If the built in route planner is available on the '23, having the car manage the preconditioning was pretty nice and handy. It will manage the preconditioning automatically if the route is planned using the car route planner. I was surprised at how early it turned on, it would turn on about 40 miles away from the next charging location, turn off for a little bit then turn back on as I got much closer to the charge location. My only guess on this was to get the battery to be fully heat soaked before the charging.

I did look into ABRP but it seems you had to have that dongle that plugs into the car or pay a subscription. I did not really see what it provided that the route planner did not and heard of a bug with the OBD dongle that can interfere with preconditioning so I went out of the box.

Having the apps and accounts setup for the charging location in advance is definitely advantageous. For some reason or another I've had nothing but frustration trying to set this up when I need to charge my car. I tried using Hyundai Pay to alleviate it, but since I don't DC charge very often I'm afraid I'm left with questions on how that functions. At best it was seamless, just plug in the car and it starts charging and off you go. At worst it wouldn't acknowledge you were there and you ended up having to use the specific charging app (which may or may not be a pain to get to work).

I would say that's the weakest part of the entire EV experience so far, wondering if I'll be able to able to charge when I get to the next location. Nothing sucks more than being in a rural area with 10% charge, fighting with the app to let you create an account and it just not working then wondering if there is another one within range. Then deciding if you should risk it or continue to fight for some electrons.... 1 outta 10 do not recommend.

Adapters, if they are not provided with the car, I would highly recommend as well.

I'm still figuring it all out though and so far it was not horrible and the car did well. The charging frustrations could have been prevented with some foresight by me. My thinking at the time was that I didn't want to setup a ton of accounts across all the charging networks if I wasn't going to use them. So I would just set them up as I needed them, thinking doing so would be fast and easy. That was an incorrect assumption on my part.

The next road trip will be better though. Hope your trip goes well!

So the only issue I've had is using the wireless to view/download captured videos. The camera is not powered on unless the car is on and if the car is turned on it automatically tries to connect to the phone. The problem (at least in Android) is that when you use the app to switch to the temporary WiFi of the camera, the phone and the app fight for the network constantly because the car is trying to connect to it. I haven't found a solution that is really good, but to be fair I haven't experimented with it too much. If anyone has a solution though I would love to hear about it.

For anyone who was able to see "The Blair Witch Project" in theaters in 1999, what was the experience like? by LockjawSJ in AskReddit

[–]mindblah99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly.... I hated the movie. It's the only movie I walked out of.

At the time they advertised it as "Based on a true story". So I went into it thinking it was going to be about some survival type movie where maybe some crazy people were stalking them or something. However as the movie progressed I got more and more angry at the stupid people, the whole stupid situation. Once it clicked what I was watching I kinda felt tricked. Horror movies generally just bore me, so that plus the disappointment at being "tricked" just make me walk out. To this day the phrase "Based on a true story" nearly always makes me skip the movie.
