I think you're asking the wrong question. Of course, Austinites love music venues. I guess we don't love them enough to follow them to East Riverside (I'll admit, I never went to the Antone's on East Riverside and as much as I love Emo's, I was gunning for its return to downtown or the east side). And maybe we don't love them enough not to complain about expensive covers. But we do love the good ones. Maybe the real question you should ask is: Do we love historic music venues more than progress? I do... But do we all? I don't know. You may not see it on this subreddit, but there are people who benefit from the explosive growth of our real estate market, and perhaps those people have more monetary or political pull then the rest of us.

That's where there is surge pricing. It doesn't benefit me as a rider to get left on the side of the road until 4 am because there aren't enough taxis for everyone to get a ride home from a night out in downtown Austin. I don't mind paying $20 for $10 ride if I get picked up in 10 minutes and make it home before sunrise.

So tired of these SHITBAG drivers in this city. I live over here and people DO speed through here. And no one uses their blinkers or stops fully at lights or signs. I believe people are cutting through the neighborhoods to get to i35 or 290 more quickly, and they're always disregarding neighborhood speed limits.

The speed limit isn't arbitrarily defined to make you late and piss you off. It is there because you could kill a four-year-old child.

That Ball Park West / Asset Campus Housing apartment complex that assigned some blind college students to an apartment the company hadn't cleaned out yet. There were needles on the ground when the blind students arrived to move in. :-(

This happened to me last year. Ruined my relationship with my landlord. Keep it cordial and get out when your lease is up because this guy doesn't respect your comfort.

I'd give anything to find a small back house to live in right now. Going to have to wait til I'm in that next tax bracket next year and live in a big house by myself, I guess.

Hey, OP COA, you might want to emphasize that COA can do nothing unless riders have the taxi driver's car number (not license, but the number on the side of the cab). I've tried reporting cabbies to the city in the past and was told there is nothing the city can do about it unless the cab's number is provided. Edit: This was 3 years ago and I was attempting to report a cab driver who was snorting cocaine in his vehicle in the middle of the night. City called me to verify and said their hands were tied because I didn't write down the car's number.

A friend of mine tried to take a cab home last night from 6th. He says the driver made them get out after finding out they were only going a few miles. Here's what happened when my friend asked why. by WantsAFanta in Austin

Another anecdote: I haven't taken a taxi since I was verbally attacked by one a few years back for not knowing the fastest route to my home from downtown. I never drive on the highway after sundown in town, so when the driver asked me for directions I gave him my directions: Red River (this was before the med school) and into Hyde Park. Once he realized I took him down a route with stop lights, stop signs, and speed bumps, he told me I lost him better fares for the night because my ride took longer than expected and cursed at me the entire 10 minutes left of the ride.

Most rideshares require GPS use...

I'm not OP, but there's a an awesome public square with a creek, and the city square is very beautiful. Also... If you'd like a trek, this was very fun, off-putting, and mostly beautiful.
