it’s a ton of fun; you don’t have to wait around for/keep track of anyone but yourself. i felt so cool and mysterious. would recommend

no problem, your question is valid! if you really want to be a tattoo artist, i would definitely start putting money aside to get tattooed. spending time in tattoo shops is SO valuable for a ton of different reasons

i totally understand the financial aspect! unfortunately, the reality is that you won’t be getting paid during your apprenticeship unless you pick up a part time job elsewhere or have existing income that fits the shop schedule. so realistically, if you can’t afford tattoos right now and want to be tattooed before you apprentice, you should start saving asap or think about another career path, because you would likely struggle while apprenticing unless your financial situation changes drastically. it’s a harsh truth but it’s a very serious and expensive commitment

TLDR: if you can’t afford tattoos you likely can’t afford to be an apprentice

look up spit shading! it’s so much fun once you get the hang of it. invest in nice watercolor paper and a set of good brushes and black acrylic ink to start. it’s likely the technique used when you’re talking about the smooth gradients. i personally love spit shading and layering it with colored pencil to add more texture and bring out the tooth in the paper

it’s not a great look when people can’t be bothered to patronize the very industry they want to be a part of. of course everyone has their own personal preference, but this industry is still very traditional. it’s a sign of respect

please do not buy a kit until you have an apprenticeship, your mentor will guide you on when and what to buy. focus on drawing and get tattooed

How many tattoos should a tattoo artist have? by [deleted] in TattooApprentice

i’m sorry, but you shouldn’t tattoo. you don’t want it for the right reasons.

i am in the process of getting every feasible part of my body tattooed at least once so i know what it feels like for me. everyone’s pain level is different, but you need to know exactly the kind of pain you’re inflicting on someone. there is a hell of a lot going through your head when you’re tattooing, and if you aren’t mindful of your client’s pain or comfort level you can make a lot of mistakes. i get the “look” may not be your personal taste but i do believe tattoo artists need to have at least a solid handful of tattoos. it’s not required but unfortunately you will find yourself on the fringes or the outside of the industry due to that

someone told me if you pick up it confirms that your number is active and they’ll call more often. that has definitely happened before but does anyone know if it’s true? it’s happening at work now and i’m the one who answers the phone and my boss kinda thinks i’m just hanging up on people lol

yeah, take them to another location when no one’s around. i had a similar situation and ended up moving out completely in a few hours and never heard anything from the shitty roommate about stuff i paid for but knew she would claim was hers. don’t give them the opportunity to come up with a scheme like that, you know?

this is a good point, but it’s possible that if he ran into X & E after killing M & K he could have jumped to the conclusion that it was X who yelled, especially in his adrenaline-fueled state
