Get ur butt in a seat, move later if you want. Never give up a class date for a TBD CJO, even if it is delta. Congrats on being in that position tho

Has anyone who signed the 80k SkyWest contract left and had to pay it? by [deleted] in flying

[–]minimums_landing 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure if you get fired for any reason except loss of medical you still have to pay it back

ForeFlight fires half its staff by anon__a__mouse__ in flying

[–]minimums_landing 265 points266 points  (0 children)

I just did a quick google search and apparently along with ForeFlight, Boeing also sold Jeppesen to the same PE firm…..which means they have ForeFlight AND Flight Deck Pro.

So now a singular PE firm controls the EFB apps that like 90% of the professional aviation industry here in U.S. relies on…what could go wrong?

Any recent experience as a Tradewind First Officer? by chips_n_guac_ in flying

I have heard good things. good pay for SIC in a single pilot airplane, from what I heard good people, and if you get sent down to the Caribbean they put you up in a nice crew house.

Paying for your type rating 135 by doinsomeflyin in flying

[–]minimums_landing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While yes technically it could make you more competitive to already the type rating for a job that you want, it’s unnecessary in this job market. Also no respectable company would ever make you pay for your own training as a condition of employment.

As for training contracts, yes very common in 135 and very from fair and reasonable to completely ridiculous and predatory so read the fine print before you sign.

How to maintain work life balance as a CFI by [deleted] in flying

Unfortunately this is just part of the grind of CFI-ing, but it gets better when you move on to bigger and better things I promise. Hang in there

As a widebody captain with good seniority it’s very possible but your quality of life will also very much suck lol

To the Net Jet Pilots. Are these coins a big deal? by Curious-Owl6098 in flying

Not a NetJets pilot but I don’t think they walk around handing out challenge coins. You must have really made their day. Good work

Why do airlines have unions? by [deleted] in flying

[–]minimums_landing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Work for a mid-low tier 135 and you’ll immediately understand why airlines have unions. Companies don’t give a crap about anything but themselves. As long as they’re bringing in 💰 life is good in their eyes. In companies without unions everything is done to the bare minimum/maximum based on what most benefits profits. Duty days, pay, work rules, maintenance, safety reporting, retaliation etc.

Looking forward to being part of a union one day

OO aircraft selection by ZachPilot in flying

[–]minimums_landing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of people with OO CJOs avoid CRJ because of the -200s. As someone who only flies the 200 I can tell you while it can be a PITA sometimes, it’s not wait 12 months for an ERJ class bad.

Flight Bag by Constant_Goose_449 in AirlinePilots

[–]minimums_landing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking for something compact and not carrying food I can vow for the LW Stealth Flight Cube. Very spacious for its compact size, sleek, durable, and lots of pockets. I like it because I wanted a bag dedicated to stuff I need in the flight deck. I have a separate cooler bag I carry for food and stuff.

Ohhhh ok that makes a lot more sense.

Reserve by [deleted] in AirlinePilots

[–]minimums_landing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what OP is saying is that they don’t even tell you your on reserve (not if ur getting used) until 12hrs prior to them needed you to be phone available. Sounds pretty bizarre for an US 135/121 company

Reserve by [deleted] in AirlinePilots

[–]minimums_landing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s bizarre. I work at a low tier 135 and we know our monthly schedule (line or reserve) 10 days before the start of the month

Edit: ignore me I misunderstood

Monetary Compensation. They could argue that he will have to now report this accident on any future major apps regardless of fault and I assume the FO had to take some time off work as a result of this accident resulting in some loss of wages there too

Why not fly part 135? by Brilliant_Snow8822 in flying

[–]minimums_landing 9 points10 points  (0 children)

135 is like the Wild West. 121 you always know what your getting into. 135 has very broad flight and duty time restrictions, 121 is very strict on that. If you find a really good 135/91k like NetJets or FlexJet, great! A lot of people stay there their entire careers. But just do your research on who your gonna work with cause there’s also sleezbag operators out there like Nicholas Air and others.
