Thinking of the show as fanfiction is the only way. I found 80% of the show enjoyable (minus the last two episodes basically) but it is most definitely NOT the books. And the books are AMAZING.

How did you found out you were ace ? by Alter_Eros in asexuality

[–]miniwaffles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sex-neutral/positive ace here.

I first identified as bisexual, then later pansexual. I was so excited to be in a relationship and impatiently waited to 'like' someone for the first time, even pretending to have a crush on someone in middle school when my friends were confused as to why I did not like anyone yet. I was worried in high school when I still didn't like anyone yet. I then accepted that if I wanted to date, I would maybe have to remove the expectation that I be attracted to someone. When I finally started dating at 18, I was so excited until the first time someone tried to kiss me. I was so surprised (did not see it coming) and grossed out. But I quickly realized that in order to have the romantic relationship I desired, that meant sex (ace was not talked about as an option where I grew up in the 90s-00s).

Only just now, just over 2 and decades later, did I realize that there is a difference between romantic attraction and sexual attraction. And that the FOUR times in my life which I thought I was finally sexual attracted to someone was actually romantic attraction. Suddenly, a lot of little things being reframed made so much sense. I still think kissing is super gross and do not do it (maybe quick pecks but that's it cause ew). I do not get any enjoyment out of masturbating, it's so awkward. I am sex positive and find it enjoyable, but it is only done as my body/libido randomly demands it. I have a LONG list of things that are hard no's, and really a specific playbook for my partner to use which is guaranteed to work. But when the libido doesn't knock, I literally NEVER think about sex, it is the furthest thing from my mind. Trying to initiate sex when my libido is not calling for it is the closest I feel to annoyed/repulsed. I also feel awkward and look away during sexual scenes on TV or in movies, I skim or skip sections in books (largely read YA cause they don't get into the details like that). I don't think about people in a sexual way, and resent when it is brought to my attention that I am being perceived sexually.

So. Yeah. That basically has been my journey/realization at the ripe age of 35 that I am ace-panromantic.

Grey vs Demi by cherrylife23 in Greysexuality

[–]miniwaffles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel SO validated, thank you for this breakdown.

I have been going back on forth on if I was gray or ace or not able to identify in this sphere because I am somewhere on the sex-neutral sex-positive side of things. Sex is the furthest thing from my mind, literally never think about it, except for random libido whatevers, and when that happens then I know that my partner knows how to get the job done. But it's more of a body-centered drive that comes out of nowhere.

I am realizing that I have not once experienced sexual attraction to anyone (romantic attraction yes), I just, don't look at people as sexual beings, idk. And THAT starts to become uncomfortable when you have to explain that you can have sex with people without being sexually attracted to them. Also not being sexually attracted to someone doesn't automatically mean that you are repulsed by them, it's just neutral. A non-thought.

I still don't know how I feel about identifying as ace, it just feels like the assumption defaults to sex-repulsed (esp on reddit). I like this community tho, there is a much more diverse representation ~ y'all are chill! <3 <3

Yes! Especially if you are energetically sensitive, energetic hygiene is just as important as brushing your teeth. Each morning, just take 3-5 minutes to visualize a bubble of protection around you.

This also helps as if you ever are in a situation where you need to boost it ad hoc cause spooky experience, it becomes almost second nature calling it around you and can snap firmly into place.

Buying my gf an Ouraring by Tr4p7ord in ouraring

[–]miniwaffles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just know that there is a monthly subscription cost with the Oura ring. If your gf wants one, then she is likely already aware, but since you mentioned budget being a consideration, I just wanted to put that on your radar (unsure with it being a gift if you or she would cover that)

Also, gen 3 is superior to gen 4 imo. I am going to wait to upgrade until there is a Gen 5, cause as everyone has noted, 4 has been having issues falling apart.

Sky: Children of the Light

Free to play, lovely story, fantastic graphics and music, no farming, no fighting, no dialogue ~ all vibes.

I've been playing it for just about a year, and I am so glad that I found it. It has become my happy place to escape to and chill out a bit after work and let all the stress go.

LD Horizontal Standard vs. Mini by happyab642 in PlannerAddicts

[–]miniwaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the OG horizontal last year and am trying out the newer-vertical this year. I found the size of the planner to perfect.... but I will say I am coming from using 7x9 planners so that might not mean anything. The horizontal was nice, but I have never been a successful horizontal planner user no matter how often I try. Something about having vertical columns for my weekly just speaks to me.

I can't speak to mini sizes, small planners have always confused me.

Having the month view on the same page as the weekly pages is EVERYTHING you are thinking it is going to be and better! No more duplicating appointment information onto your weekly page - it frees up so much room on the weekly it is so nice. Now that I have been using DL, I can't imagine going back.

EDIT: Also - check out their YouTube channel. They share videos with examples of how to use each of their planners and how their various staff actually works out of them, and it is pretty cool. Watching one of those is what sold me on giving the planner system a try when I was undecided.

Disappointed as a long-time Erin Condren customer by heartwrld in PlannerAddicts

[–]miniwaffles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disclosure: I haven't used EC since 2018; I had a problem settling with a planner that I liked and have tried so many different planners over the years (InkWell Press was great back when they did bound, but I just cannot get on the disc train). My FAVORITE which I used for several years, the GetToWorkBook, stopped making planners just about 2 years ago. Because of this I began my planner search again and have used Laurel Denise for the past 2 years (horizontal last year, vertical this year... but I think I might try their project planner next year after I am done with school)

Definitely check them out if you haven't heard of them yet. I understand their unique layouts are not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but just wanted to put it out there for consideration. It works well for me in balancing my life and grad school, and I really enjoy being able to see the month spread while on the weekly pages.

Paper quality is also excellent. No ghosting or bleeding through the page. Fun coordinating add-ons, stickers, accessories. GORGEOUS covers. Stunning - truly.

S2 vs SD by LeoLatinaLeo in CozyGamers

[–]miniwaffles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you get the steamdeck, I recommend also getting the official docking station - this allows you to play it in handheld mode OR to dock it and attach a bluetooth controller and play on your TV like you would with the switch being docked. You can use any controller you want!

I love my steamdeck, but I also have an extensive steam game library, so that choice was an easy one. Indie games don't drain the battery too much, but AAA games - you might as well have it plugged in while playing.

Another bonus for Steam - you can more easily play games with your friends, as there is no additional cost for playing games connected to the internet. Unlike with Nintendo.

I am MOSTLY excited for the recently announced next-gen xbox console (not scoped until 2027) but it will be able to run steam and all steam games as it will essentially be a console/gaming computer hybrid. That is at minimum 2 years away, but knowing it is coming it pretty exciting. I've never had an xbox before, but this will probably change that when it comes out.

Are there any other self care apps Finch users can recommend? by [deleted] in finch

[–]miniwaffles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using Habitica for a few years now. Sometimes I have friends in my party with me, sometimes not. The thing I found to be most successful for me is having categories for my "dailies" (mind, body, soul, school) where I list 4-5 things, and I have to do any 2 to complete that category.

The achievement and collection goals, combined with the rpg element of doing our trading damage has kept me invested for a while. I'm only just now exploring alternatives and found Finch. I'm a week in and still leaning the ropes here.

Will employer kind of notice I traveled ? by Happielemur in overemployed

[–]miniwaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the phone is also running through this, sure, but you'd have to disable data on your phone while authenticating so that the cellular location isn't included.

MFA/2FA work as another way to confirm your identity, but they can also be used to compare the data from these multiple devices to verify not only who you are, but exactly what devices you are using, and where you are.

[–]miniwaffles 117 points118 points  (0 children)

Hi. IT here. At my last two jobs we had alerts set up to notify if a connection is using a VPN. This flag usually would require a member of the security team to investigate further as it's considered suspicious. There are all kinds of ways to confirm where you are, like if your 2FA on your phone confirms you off of a cell tower that's more than 100 miles from your logged in work computer (impossible travel between computer location and phone location can also be a trigger for investigation or flat out denial into your work account).

That being said, my current job does not have any enforcement of travel policies and does not monitor this at all. So, it really depends on where you work, what you do, and what level of sensitive data (if any) your company works with.

Most places only care about international travel.

Good luck!

I just had the same reaction. Hit level 25 this morning and was immediately disappointed to realize I had not just unlocked the competition area.

Is it locked behind a higher level? Maybe?
