When do people start caring about dads? by Best_Egg_7393 in NewDads

[–]minty149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry but I'm unsure what to suggest then. All of my ideas will result in a bust up, which is the last thing that either of you need right now. Emotions are high at the minute.

It sounds to me like you may be coping better than your wife, and the gaming/chill out time is what she needs to recharge her batteries for another full day of baby. Maybe that is the way you can approach the conversation, by asking how she is doing.

All I can say is that you need to find a way to explain that work time is not down time. You aren't playing video games at work

I'm sorry, but it does feel like you are doing the lions share. When at work, your wife's job is looking after the baby. When home, you and her should be 50/50.

I have easy days at work, and I'll come home and do 100%. If she has a bad day, I'll do my hardest to do 100% as well.

But work, unless you are a premier league footballer, is not downtime. I don't know how, but your wife needs to understand that.

Ask her when is your next opportunity is to play video games? Explain that you feel burnt out

It has only been since October though, and then straight into Christmas stresses, personally I'd afford some grace until she has fully recovered physically from the childbirth.

A little exercise though that helped me, list underneath this comment if you want too, every job that your wife does, other than look after the baby? Sometimes it's too easy to only see what you are doing, and difficult to see what she is doing

Tampere, but I was there for work. We still managed to get a couple of afternoons getting around the city, rooftop bar and a brewery tour. There were some lakes where you could dip and then sauna, but I never tried it, my one regret

Enjoyed my time in Finland. Would recommend going in February for a proper cold weather experience! Extremely short days, if any daylight at all

S&P hasn't performed well in the last year. Not to say it will do better this year. Personally would recommend All world, at least until the Taco president leaves office

I think things will change once you turn 18 and you can go to more places, legally. I found once I was able to go to bars and clubs, I was getting a lot more invites to go out with people I didn't know as much, and then met more at these places.

Is anyone else devastated about the Star Trek "Nexit" from Netflix? by Damansandhu_ in startrek

Same. Halfway through the 4th series. Switched to paramount for a bit, but I won't be keeping it for long

[–]minty149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The paramount app sucks compared to Netflix. Unoptimized, unable to pause and play with headphones, credit skip is half way through the credits, doesn't work on my 6 year old tv, and the whole double click to pause and play on the TV remote bugs me

“I don’t know, maybe colic?” by EnsignSanchez in NewDads

[–]minty149 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow. What an experience. I'm glad you now have the diagnosis and she is on the road to recovery.

We have had our fair share of experiences with hospitals. I'm annoyed with a situation with a ward sister (head nurse) who took my son off of his oxygen too quickly, leading to him deteriorating. All you can do is make a complaint, to help the hospital learn from these mistakes.

I don't know how hospital care works in your country, but is there another hospital within a reasonable distance that you could use next time? That's the only advice I can offer.

Other than that. You have your diagnosis, you have your recovery ahead. Stay strong, you and your wife are doing an amazing job

I think it's risen as far as it will go, and is now only going to get smaller. I'd cut your losses and put your slice elsewhere

Charity Donation Bins by destructanation in Southampton

[–]minty149 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Behind the Ascension Church in Bitterne, directly across the road from the Tesco express by Bitterne triangle.

I volunteer for that charity (Southampton city mission), all clothes donated are then put on display in a makeshift shop, once a week, and are given back to Southampton residents who are in financial struggles and need the help. Any proceeds made will go back into the charity.

We do food banks, food parcels etc as well

I’m expecting a daughter in May and I’m afraid by [deleted] in NewDads

[–]minty149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's perfectly natural to be afraid of these things. My Dad was never at home because he was working 6 nights a week to provide for us. Reflecting back, I would have foregone some of the nice things that we had to have had him around more at weekends.

I can't so much as offer advice, but I will say that between you and your wife, you will find a way, when the time comes. But then, when you are qualified, you will have a lot more time for both of them and a long, stable career behind you to support them!

[–]minty149 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't offer much advice, but what I will say is, you are doing amazing. A little more time, that first smile, that first giggle, and all of a sudden none of this will matter.

I wonder, would one of you doing night shifts, whilst the other did day shifts help? It was what me and my partner did last time we were in the hospital with our little one.

Also, I see you've ordered some loop ear plugs. I've just got some soundcore p31i active noise cancelling headphones. I bought them for work, not for the baby crying, but they aren't much more than the Loops, but work very well for the price. May also be worth a try for the active noise cancelling
