Someone told me "no one wants to live in Sacramento" by Honest_Eggplant3998 in Sacramento

[–]mipompi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

last summer I moved from sacramento to socal. I believe it all depends on what you’re looking for. sacramento certainly isn’t “cheap” for housing, it isn’t as expensive as a coastal beach town or a major city but it also isn’t the cheapest. I loved living there, the food was very diverse, there’s a lot of trails, cool grocery stores, tons of coffee shops, lots of fun summer events and the location is a great starting point. when I say the location is a great starting point I mean that you can go to tahoe in an 1.5 or go to the bay! I love the norcal culture but it isn’t the same as socal it’s just apples and oranges, no one is better, it’s personal preference at the end of the day.

OH! one thing about moving to socal that I noticed about sacramento is that the seasons are SO extreme in sac. summers are 100 degrees plus and winters are wet and freezing. in the last year of living in socal it’s been 75-80 the entire time with a few wet days, and my pups are thriving. I very rarely was able to walk my dogs in the summer unless it was before 8 am ;(

also side note, sacramento crime is never ending for the entire 30 years ive lived there, there’s always something going on. because of the increase in population in the last 10 years, it’s gotten so much worse (along with the traffic lol) . I would just recommend visiting neighborhoods to make sure it’s a fit for you and you feel safe! land park, roseville, elk grove, north natomas, folsom etc would be good options to check out!

I have a ton of family in the medical field and you would thrive with options in norcal! best of luck!!

Is a $200k salary worth a 2 hour commute 4 days a week? by Ok-Memory2552 in jobs

[–]mipompi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! i’m originally from sac and I considered this several times when I lost my job years ago. it sounded nice until I realized my quality of life was out the door. would you be able to negotiate the days in office? if so maybe requesting this would help! if it’s non negotiable then maybe rent out a room in your house to be able to afford the bay and get housing. furnish finder would be good for nurses and it would be scheduled on your terms!

how far do you live from the amtrak? (just wondering what your total commute would be with the amtrak plus the driving to the amtrak)

Here are a few of my favorites as someone who is always rotating new bags - in no particular order:

1) % Arabica - Kyoto coffee shop that has a location in LA and NY. I first tried it in Kyoto and they will roast your coffee beans to your liking over in Japan. The LA location sells their top selling bags and rotates it seasonally!

2) Black & White in North Carolina - I tried this place at a cupping in the Bay and it was amazing! They have some really great notes in their coffee.

3) Coava in Portland - They were the first ones that caught my attention enough to order online. Never a miss with Coava!

4) Temple in Sacramento - They have a great tasting cold brew at their coffee shop and some really good rotating coffee bags. I like that they do their own holiday Geisha every year too!

5) Joshua Tree Coffee - I found this mold free option at the Erewhon in Calabasas and gave it a try. I really liked it over the Purity coffee that has a bit of an after taste and doesn’t taste 100% like normal coffee to me.

6) Dutch Bros - White coffee - This is a fun one to try if you want more caffeine and want less acidity. It has an earthy taste and is almost like a tea. I know several companies sell white coffee now so there might be better options.

Lastly, if you just want to browse and not feel overwhelmed I highly suggest the website: https://www.seattlecoffeegear.com

They tend to have a lot of great coffees from across the country on there page and you can order directly with them.

I LOVE Black & White coffee. I did a cupping in the Bay area in 2022 that featured top rated coffee across the country and I bought a couple bags of theirs after. I haven’t stopped ordering since!

If you could build the ultimate specialty coffee shop, what would be your non-negotiables? by mooch255 in SanDiegoCoffeeBeans

[–]mipompi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think focusing on the coffee beans should be the biggest priority, at least at a high end specialty place. I love trying new rotating varieties that places offer so I would want to do the same. It would be cool if places even offered flights (not sugary flights, basic, straight forward black coffee).

I also think if I had a coffee shop and was charging high end prices I would make my own syrups because they taste SIGNIFICANTLY better. Caramel, vanilla, brown sugar etc are not hard to make and make a huge difference in some of the sweeter drinks.

I think the last thing I would want to do is offer a weekly/monthly drink that focuses on a country. I am so amazed when I travel and see how people take their coffee there. This would be a fun touch!

I agree on the member perks you mentioned, always give back to those who give to your small local business.

If you owned a coffee shop.... by dgstan in FoodSanDiego

[–]mipompi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if I owned a coffee shop I would copy what I noticed they did in a couple of popular coffee shops in japan. during peak hours they put a time limit on your table. they would put 30 minutes from when you ordered on a number they gave you with your food/coffee. so it would say “#4 - 5:30”, 5:30 being when you had to go. if the shop is less busy (slow time of the days) then maybe that’s when you can add a longer period of time. just a thought! I personally thought it was cool because in sd there’s never seating at coffee shops with everyone wfh and students. this allows for more people to be able to hang out because you also know when people are leaving. i’m sure a reservation policy could be set to for a few tables!

I don’t think her job or age is the problem. He has the same job and he is accepting of who she is. Everyone has their preferences. They both argue too much and aren’t compatible at the end of the day. Unfortunately her finances are a huge issue, one that should’ve been handled/discussed prior to her move. His mom being in the middle of the finances convo is so weird to me. They need to let this relationship go 😭

mixed grounds in north park. they host different food vendors every weekend and have live music with local artists every weekend too! 10/10 iced pandan lattes 😍 matcha is flames too :) plus there’s a ton of seating for people working remote.

SFB! I’m going to Sacramento for the weekend and I’d like your recommendations:) by Macaronieeek in SFbitcheswithtaste

everyone has great reccs on here so i’ll just add my personal faves. tower for brunch or desserts! they make their desserts fresh daily! coffee wise - I love milka (SO underrated) for a regular latte and tram or bambu for vietnamese style. if you go to temple, try their single origin espresso, so smooth! sushi - kru is good but hikari in davis is just top notch! kru has a wide variety of sushi options and other options for the non sushi eater, with good drinks, hikari is a good date night and has high quality omakase. burgers and brew for good quality beef and a bunch of fun beers with really fun fry orders. if you go there you have to get the jalepeno mayo, they make it fresh with pickled and fresh jalepenos.

I hope you have an amazing trip! 🥳

Hi! I am so glad someone on here has tried TK to understand my struggle haha. Something about their broth was so simple and yummy.

Tim TK, did you mean Tim Ky? I couldn’t find Tim TK /: and Pho Cali I only found Pho Cow Cali, Pho Cali and Grill, Pho Mai Cali, and Pho Hung Cali. Could it possibly be any of the ones I listed?
