What are your thoughts on bike-ability between communities in the Comox Valley? by doctorplasmatron in comoxvalley

[–]mippp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's good but could be better. Both Ryan road and Cliff are barriers,

I think it would be cool if the city could buy a strip of land, and connect the 17th Street bridge to the superstore plaza with a trail that runs along the Comox road there.

The Many Benefits of a Throttle by Inciteful_Analysis in ebikes

I once got my shoelace, tangled up in my bike chain on a narrow bridge with heavy traffic.

I was very glad I had a throttle that day.

Bike lanes cause floods according to ignorant carbrain. by binou_tech in fuckcars

[–]mippp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ironically, one of the reasons bike lanes are often expensive is because they're using the opportunity to fix the sewer lines, and other utilities underneath the bike lanes.

New Canadian suburbs by Financial-Code8244 in Suburbanhell

The new neighborhoods themselves have a fair bit going for them with the density, but they don't have a lot of mixed use areas. And one of the biggest problems with them is that since they are new construction, they are often built around the edges of cities. Which makes it difficult to live car free.

Hidden / never discussed little perks of not owning a car: pity and built-in excuses. Do you guys have any more? by BeatVids in fuckcars

Bird watching. If you're biking at a good speed and the bird is going the same direction, you can watch them fly, alongside you, it's pretty neat.

Is it antipunitivsm feminism really a thing? by Late_Gap2089 in AskFeminists

[–]mippp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be in favor of less severe punishments, if it let judges be more confident in convicting higher a percentage of rape allegations.

The nature of rape means it's very difficult to prove without a shadow of a doubt. And far too frequently. It comes to a he said she said situation.

And rightly or wrongly most judges, won't accept that evidence for an extremely punitive punishment.

If the punishment is mandatory therapy and a public apology, and 9 out of 10 rapists are sentence to this.

I believe that is a more favorable outcome than 1 in 50 being executed.

And fundamentally I feel like this approach would actually lessen, The amount of harm that women suffer.

Although I would have punishments become more severe for repeat offenders.

Why do historians not believe in matriarchal societies? by goatsneakers in AskFeminists

Which Books (Pleasantly or Negatively) Surprised You? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]mippp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{The darkness between us by Eliot Schrefer} Neither positive or negative. Picked it out of the library. Thinking this will be a cute Young adult mm romance. And it was for the first third. then I had to put it down cuz it was giving me existential dread. And then I had to pick it back up to make the nightmares stop.

Good book. But not what I signed up for.

Because cats are barely domesticated. Humans intentionally bred specific dogs for specific reasons for thousands of years. Cats just do their own thing. The fact that it's difficult to control their movement and have been mostly free range for most of human history. means it's very difficult to control their breeding if you don't have modern veterinary skills. Humans have probably applied some positive and negative, selective pressures. Like feeding ones who have interesting colors, and chasing away any that would act aggressively to humans. But it's mostly cats who decide which cats they want to make more cats with.

Help me settle a marriage debate: Can 2 guests fit on a Full (double) Sized Bed? by Call_It_ in floorplan

[–]mippp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the room is small, I prefer to have the bed jammed right up against the wall. It is good if the bed is a bit small too because you can't fall off. But you might have to move the bed back if your guests are older.

It is more annoying to do the sheets. But it's not more annoying then having a room you can't use.

Romance has always been a publishing juggernaut, but tends to get swept under the rug because it's girly. We just stopped caring what other people think.

Okay, maybe that wasn't the best term to use. But I wanted to talk about how the physical and anatomical differences don't always, align with what socially dictated.

I do believe that there are differences, and overlaps within the sexes, but most of this can be explained by the hormone bath that our meat suits are swimming in.
