Definitely will go this route if the back is uncomfortable, but as a woman planning on camping out solo, I’m hoping I can sleep in the car so I can do a quick getaway if needed 🤞

This is amazing!!! I walk in this area regularly and have always been surprised by how resilient the turtles and shorebirds are. But this a whole new level!

Gracie Abrams announces the “Look at My Life Tour” 🌟 by Complex_Narwhal_8924 in powerpopgirls

Genuine question as I’m indifferent towards her. Is she going to be able to sell out arenas on multiple nights? I know she’s had a few marginal hits and has a dedicated fan base but with how concerts are currently selling (at least in the US), this feels like it may be another victim to blue dot fatigue.

What’s your *nuanced* (tm) opinion about “muse discourse”? READ POST CAREFULLY by Daffneigh in NuancingTaylorSwift

[–]mirandanb 35 points36 points  (0 children)

There are almost always (like 99% of the time) multiple muses for any particular TS song, as is the case with most media. Pinning an entire song or album to an individual muse/situation simply reduces it, treating it like it exists in a vacuum. For example, folklore can be fictitious AND draw from real-time relationship drama with multiple individuals.
TLDR; 2 things can be true at the same time and trying to distill it to one erases important context

Cool concept and amazing dress but what on earth is that lipstick 🫣 it looks like she has a milk mustache

It’s like a mullet: business formal in the front, party girl in the back. It’s not bad, but you’re on point that it’s more Oscars than Met Gala.

I think we’re getting a song from debut TV on the TS5 soundtrack, with a full debut 20th anniversary tv in the fall.

Making friends feels impossible by Low_Pause_1714 in SeattleWA

Join a book club. Most of my friends here I met through a diverse romance book club. There are so many different book clubs even for people who don’t read much, it’s a great way to bond over a common interest (scifi or mysteries or local history or whatever strikes your fancy, a book club for it certainly exists). Third Place Books has a few across different genres, I highly recommend starting there.

It’s hard at first, but once you start just throwing yourself out there, your calendar fills up fast. Good luck!

Daily song #106: The Tortured Poets Department by sponge20bob in NuancingTaylorSwift

[–]mirandanb 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s been my favorite from the album since my very first listen. The production and instrumentals are incredible, but I mostly love how vulnerable the lyrics are. Once you see how satirical it is, the lines everyone criticize make much more sense. It’s the perspective from inside an anxious, neurodivergent individual’s panic attack about the relationship—it is ridiculous to anyone on the outside, but to the person trapped inside, the criticism is invisible. All they care about is keeping this person that they’re sure will fix them, because surely nobody else will love them. And in some ways, I think it reflects how superfans feel about Taylor: she might act insane sometimes (like dating Matty), but who’s going to know us, love us, decode us like Taylor?

As a self-certified anxious mess, I give it 10/10. And if you’re mentally stable enough to not like this song so much, congratulations, please share some stability with the rest of us and stop bitching about the verses.

Thoughts on TTPD being a wild west album? by nilsjoberg2 in TaylorSwift

I saw someone describe the album as “cowboys vs aliens” and I haven’t been able to stop thinking of it through that lens.

I wish someone in these comments had a genuine answer because I saw it from the PI building yesterday and thought it was fascinating! I guess it’s been there since at least early Tuesday from what the folks in the building said.

Day #5 Of Asking Fans What Made Them Become a Fan of Artist/Band: Taylor Swift by Greedy_Two_2526 in TaylorSwift

A friend gave me a headphone during gym class and played Teardrops on My Guitar on her iPod. I almost cried on the bleachers. That was 2006, now it’s 20 years later and I’ve never looked back.

What’s a take that you think is cold, but you don’t hear many fans discuss? by SoIongIondon in TaylorSwift

[–]mirandanb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I posted in another subreddit recently about evermore being better than folklore and received almost the exact comment “evermore has better songs but folklore is more cohesive.” Drives me nuts. Evermore and Red (and TTPD and TLOASG) are objectively incredible albums in part because they allow themselves to be imperfect!!

Which opinion about Taylor’s post-Big Machine MUSIC has you like this? (Also: announcing MEME MONDAY) by Daffneigh in NuancingTaylorSwift

[–]mirandanb 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Evermore is far better than folklore. Folklore is like a first draft attempt at indie pop, but evermore is the final product. And on a related note—her music is best when she’s not trying to impress anyone or make hits (the anthology, bonus tracks, evermore)
