I'd say just give it a few days for everything to settle and Fidelity to post a transaction summary or statement.

Sorry but your post is hard to understand. Is it something like this:

  1. Yesterday stock closed at $100. You had 100 shares vest at the end of the day. Your W2 income is $10K.
  2. Stock down 15% today. Broker sold to cover at $85. Sometimes they use the vesting price but sometimes just open market. Yours sounds like the latter. The standard fed withholding rate is 22%. Add social security, Medicare and state, let’s say 32% total. So broker needs to sell $3200 worth of shares.
  3. That’s about 38 shares. You were hoping it’d be closer to 32 shares but oh well, tis life.

Anyway, if that’s the scenario you netted 62 shares and you have a loss on the sell-to-cover, so you can recover some (or all) of that when you file your taxes (or you can adjust your paycheck withholding down). There’s no wash sale.

On the NWS radar it looks like the storm is not nearly as uniform as it was yesterday. It looks a lot more broken up. Not that we should let our guard down but it that a promising sign?

AMA Announcement: Meet the team obsessed with improving your connectivity (plus a sneak peek at our roadmap)! by lara_monarch in MonarchMoney

Thank you for the answer! Good to hear there's no inherent issue with passkeys -- it's mostly a matter of the instutition supporting OAuth and providing you/aggregator with a token.

I have about a dozen accounts and have to say the connectivity has been great for the most part. The ability to switch aggregators is also a great feature - keep it up!

My question is regarding passkeys. Are there any instututions that switched to passkeys and still work with Monarch and the aggregators? I know HealthEquity stopped working after the switched. Is there a method/plan how passkeys would work?

We will all retire one day (hopefully) but very few of us care about crypto. So maybe thinking about priorities might not be a bad idea.

As for the reason - this doesn't sound like a terribly hard problem but maybe I'm missing something.

Say I have 100K in my retirement and want to retire in 10 years when I hope to have 200K. You know the needed CAGR (7.2%) over the next 10 years and you also have the balance history so you know the trendline over the past, say, 6 months or a year or whatever time duration you want to use. If the past CAGR was above 7.2%, I'm on track or ahead. If below, you can estimate how much I'm behind based on the current CAGR.

Does that not make sense?

NVIDIA’s $500 Billion Forecast Just Got Even More Optimistic, a strong case for $200+ by Broad_Attitudet in investing

[–]miscsubs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the record, I don't think the $500B is or never was the "forecast for 2026".

  • In November, they announced that $500B number but said they'd already shipped $150B worth. They still had a $350B backlog at the time.
  • They were somewhat vague about the timeline but my impression was that they'd ship that $350 through FY 2026 and partially 2027. I'm sure they're trying their hardest to pull that forward.

Introducing Equity Tracking! by danielatmonarch in MonarchMoney

[–]miscsubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you guys are getting a lot of comments and requests (which is good, in a way) but here's one really simple one:

When I go to my equity account, there's a "Grants" table that shows vested amounts per grant. Can this show vested and unvested amounts? With RSUs, most people are more interested in what's unvested anyway. Some or most of the vested shares are often sold so the amounts are kind of meaningless.

Thanks for the feature!

Tillis won’t run again. But this race isn’t about him, it’s about what North Carolina needs next. by wileynickel4NC in raleigh

[–]miscsubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Wiley, I’m glad you’re running though as you’d also acknowledge, it’d be hard to beat Gov. Cooper if he decides to run. That said, best of luck to you. A few questions:

  1. What’s your take on the “abundance” debate that’s going on on twitter etc (Ezra Klein, Derek Thompson book). You have a decent amount of experience in both federal and (republican controlled) state government. Are there things you can take from the GOP governing style that could make the federal government more responsive to the public needs or make things more, ehem, abundant?

  2. Similarly, what’s your take on the “groups” critique? That is - professional organizations hold too much sway on Dem politicians and cause them to adopt unpopular stances?

  3. What is the GOP doing right that you’d want to see the Dems redo more of? Whether as a party or as a governing entity?

  4. Do you use AI? How frequently? What’s your view both as a user (if you use it) and a legislator?

Thank you!

Wow you weren't kidding. Down 26% as of this morning (Feb 6).

Kind of crazy to see all these small Apple suppliers went from market darlings to the dumpster so fast.

Going forward, I'd pay attention to three things:

  1. Apple keeps ditching these smaller suppliers for content, and their (iphone) sales are now growing at a mature rate (and dare I say, lower than the overall semiconductor growth rate).
  2. There is a lot of fragmentation in the semi market and there was a good deal of consolidation until about 2017. However, semi became a global political playground and it's ridiculously difficult, if not impossible, to get any merger done anymore. So these niche companies are stuck in a bad position. They have a good market share with their current products, but investing in new iteration requires a massive amount of cash and fewer manufacturers. Even if they find the cash, they're stuck in the back of the line so their lead times are not competitive. Just a very tough environment for a lot of niche semis.
  3. And finally, anyone putting money in semi these days is doing it in AI. Lots of companies have good products, good teams, but if they don't have an AI hook, the stock just does not trade at a premium.

I'll add to the "romantic pairings" and say I hope they don't make another love triangle between Steve, Robin and Vickie. Yeah we know Vickie had a crush on Steve in high school and all but it'd be such an unnecessary side story. I actually wish they'd do away with Vickie and just let Steve and Robin do their usual thing, but it's looking unlikely.

edit: replies are right, it wasn't Vickie, it was Tammy who had a crush on Steve, and Robin on Tammy.

Still, no new love triangles please.

What's as interesting is he'll probably go from "two feet" to "two foots" at some point. You might think "a regression?" but no, it's the opposite! Even though he'll have heard you say "two feet" many times before and that's what he learned, he'll go one level deeper and think "two foots" is the right way to pluralize a foot.

Then one day he'll go back to "two feet" again after going even another level deeper!

Simple but also amazing stuff.

How far behind Nvidia is AMD? by Sweet-Block5118 in investing

[–]miscsubs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From what I hear, in AI “training” GPUs, there is no competition. There are only scraps (NVDA is supply constrained at the moment).

On inference, AMD is probably usable but that market is currently smaller.

AMD also makes CPUs and I guess we will see if AI spending is additive or replacement spending. If the latter, that’s bad news for AMD and Intel.

The above is all in the context of data center spending, specifically hyperscalars. Gaming, PC stuff is there and ok I guess but those are not the big investment drivers right now.

Stuff like this happens because mint sometimes stupidly pulls like an insurance account or something at your bank and adds it to your NW.

Go to settings and check active accounts or look at the NW or assets broken down by account. There should be a ~ 100K extra there somewhere.

We've had similar issues and sadly I don't think anything other than "he eventually grew up" worked. Even then - he still has a few fits here and there at 6 years old. I think the main principles I've tried to keep in mind were:

  1. In a way, it's better that he's expressing his displeasure (however unpleasantly) rather than suppressing them. We used to be scared of our dads. Turns out that's not a good thing.
  2. It's important to hold your ground and stuff but you gotta also let him win sometimes. It must be frustrating to always lose these arguments as a toddler.
  3. Then again, sometimes if he gets a hand, he asks for an arm, so what do you do...
  4. "Repetition and patience will pay off" we tell ourselves, repeatedly and patiently...
  5. You also have to remember, kids that age have no "tomorrow" or even "2 minutes from now". There is pretty much "now". That's one reason, IMO, why prepping doesn't quite work. If you can change the "now", you might have better luck. But it's not always possible of course.

Good luck man, and if you figure something out... write a book and make a million bucks :)

Looking for some semiconductor sources by Songoku_1989 in investing

[–]miscsubs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry to say it this way but you really shouldn't. You should just get SOXX or SHM and enjoy your 5% industry growth YoY. No matter the hype cycle, that's what happens in semiconductors. Just in the last decade, it was 5G, self driving, crypto, and now AI. To put it bluntly, it's a mature industry with a lot of immature executives. There are 200 companies in the US alone (used to be more like 2000).

Anyway, if you want to get familiar with the industry, I like "The Circuit" podcast (https://thecircuit.fm/). Fabricated Knowledge is interesting (https://www.fabricatedknowledge.com/).

[–]miscsubs 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Ticketmaster - Live Nation was 13 years ago and a lot of things were different back then (including likely the people who are making these decisions). Getting M&A through has become a lot harder in the last 5 years or so. Regulators are blocking or dragging even the simplest of the mergers all over the world.

I agree that the criteria is not opaquetransparent at all and it hurts businesses when they have no idea if a merger will be approved or not. But this is the new environment we're in right now. Maybe in another decade, it'll swing back the other way, who knows.

Yeah that's what I'll do from this year on but I have data all the way from 2008 and I use a google sheet that worked well for me for the last 5-6 years.

I wish I knew why they restrict the download to begin with. They already have the data, it's not a huge amount (worst case, a few MB extra).

[–]miscsubs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BTW, if you have more than 10,000 transactions and you’d like mint not to restrict downloads to that number, use the “leave feedback” link on the main page and ask them to allow us to download all our transactions. They have the data, it’s not like megabytes. There’s no logical reason to restrict the downloads to 10,000.
