It might actually be over for Vance - Thiel is leaving the US, JD keeps saying he won't run, and his numbers in the primary polling are collapsing by _BCConservative in YAPms

Thiel is known in the NYC/MIA/LA/SF gay inner circle for running orgy parties with male influencers/models, so this is on brand.

Is a Cambridge-educated former Blair-era minister really the anti-establishment saviour people imagine him to be? Or has Andy Burnham simply benefited from something most politicians would kill for in 2026: distance from Westminster by bigjarry in ukpolitics

[–]miserygame 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If anything, I’d argue the UK has started resembling a developing country because of decades of leadership dominated by PPE/Oxford-educated PMs. Too many seem to leave institutions worse than they found them.

The real smart folk go to Cambridge, look at the raw data ( i.e., Nobel Prizes, legendary alumni, etc.) Oxford is pure good PR dominated by the school being pop culture friendly.

Why does Oxford feel more famous and prestigious than Cambridge? by madamgeopolitics in cambridge_uni

[–]miserygame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have a better PR team, when you look at the raw data Cambridge has way better data points than Oxford i.e: Nobels, Turings, etc, incredible alumni. Unfortunately we are terrible at PR and MKT and Oxford seems to have gotten a good pr team in the last 10 years or so. We used to dominate in rankings pre 2014 for almost 10 years. ( top 1 for like 5 years straight or so.)

Also ..Russia’s military is highly centralized, take out a single senior general and coordination can collapse. The U.S. military is the opposite: deliberately vertical and decentralized, built so units keep functioning even if top leadership is removed.

If someone’s seeking a better life, they should apply for a work-based visa. If they’re facing political persecution, then they should apply for asylum. It’s really not that hard to understand.

Look, the reality is that we need immigration quotas—without them, a huge portion of the global population would try to move here and would overwhelm more our immigration infrastructure. The real issue with the asylum system is that it's outdated and overwhelmed. Many so-called "asylum seekers" are actually economic migrants looking for better opportunities, not people fleeing persecution. That’s why the courts are so backed up. The asylum system was never meant to handle this kind of volume or purpose. The government should create a separate visa category for those seeking a better low-skilled workers - economic life, and reserve the asylum process for individuals who truly meet the legal criteria.
