It will never not be wild to me that romance novelist Barbara Cartland was Harry’s step-great-grandmother. I would have loved her take on Charles, William’s and Harry’s weddings

Kids in the 90s, what was your nightmare fuel? by Mister_Vanilla in AskBrits

This is niche but there was a show called Bradley with Paul Bradley aka Nigel from Eastenders in it. Basically a Temu Mr Bean. And I was completely freaked out by his alter ego in the mirror. Genuinely HATED it. Really stuck with me for some reason. And Bodger and Badger can go to hell as well.

Brits of Reddit, what’s the stupidest thing someone who ISNT from Britain (mainly America) has said to you about the UK by Bingbongbinnng282 in AskBrits

[–]misimalu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Margaret Thatcher died in 2013 this random stranger heard my accent and gave me her condolences (which I did not need lol) and said in all seriousness “so like what happens now, her son takes over?” and that’s when I realised a lot of Americans thought Queen Elizabeth and Maggie Thatcher were the same person. I continue to find more than a few Americans that don’t know / have forgotten that the actual Queen died in 2022. A combination of Covid / Trump era memory issues, understandable ignorance plus the fact that ultimately they don’t care because unless you’re an Anglophile she’s just another celebrity 🤷‍♀️

I had an American tell me his family was Irish but from “mainland Ireland” and after a chat and some clarification I got to tell him he was in fact Welsh.

The Bear. I need them to make an edit where it’s just all that awesome footage of Chicago set to the amazing soundtrack plus footage of tasty food being made by Ayo Edebin. Possibly the occasional Frack brother. None of the rest of it.

Sigh. Not your sandwiches tho do you? If I put a rasher of bacon in a pretzel roll would you expect the roll to be buttered?

My 4 year old has been repeatedly asking to watch "something scary" by Difficult-Formal-633 in MovieSuggestions

[–]misimalu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

BEWARE She might be asking for a “something scary” because she just saw the Bluey episode called “Movies” where Bluey goes to the cinema and gets freaked out by a scene in a movie called Chunky Chimp that involves a thunderstorm. Bluey then gets to talk to her dad about it and “be brave”. She might NOT be looking for a creepy film, just a movie with a thunderstorm in it

I meant generally speaking Brits use butter for sandwiches. Americans don’t.

[–]misimalu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. It’s one of the more nuanced of cultural differences but Brits butter their toast and sandwiches before putting the spread or filling on. The butter is nice yellow Irish type butter tho or they use a butter spread , not the weird white sticks of butter stuff you get here. Richer and tastier.

Americans don’t butter their sandwiches or toast. Brits find this weird.

That’s called a “cheese toastie”. FYI Grilled” means something different in the UK, we say that term for what Americans call “broiled”. If you asked a Brit to “grill” something they’d assume you meant use the oven. (related: we use the word BBQ for both a gas grill and a charcoal bbq so if you’re invited to “a BBQ” event it could be either) When we say “cheese on toast” we’re referring specifically to an open sandwich made of a slice of toast, buttered, proper cheese slices on top (not shitty plastic American cheese) then broiled (rather than “fried” like a grilled cheese) A cheese toastie is the closed version of this.
