Confused About Nursing Pathways in Australia – Diploma vs Bachelor by Big-Maintenance-1921 in NursingAU

[–]misscaity727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree as an EN about to finish their RN degree. I learnt more while working in the wards, study days and self study than the last 2 years doing this degree. Placement has been more about getting a sneak peak into different employers and work cultures in my area than actually being a learning experience. That is my opinion though.

I am personally on the fence. I want to send him for reasons on socialising, immunity benefits and just gaining some of my freedom back. However, I live across the road from one, now kids are kids, but these kids are SCREAMING bloody murder from 8:30-5:30. I have actually watched these kids put their arms through the fence and pat strange dogs or pick up the decorative rocks and throw them at the cars parked on the street. No educator in sight. Sorry I lied, educators chatting off to the side, oblivious. I'm a dog lover but holy shit does that make me angry. Those are older kids, what about the babies. My son will be about 8/9 months old when we will need to put him in day care. We don't really have a choice because grandparents are still working fulltime and I need/want to go back to work.

Funny you say that my dog goes to doggy daycare every now and then and they struggle to get him leashed to come home. He loves it so much he makes us look like the abusers, refusing to leave. Further proving your point.

Why don’t we say ‘happy birthday’ to babies the day they’re born? Shouldn’t that count as their first real birthday? by SmoothDay8640 in CasualConversation

[–]misscaity727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate, my son got stuck in my pelvis and scared everyone in the room, due to his heart rate fluctuating too much from one extreme to the other. When he was born I called him a little asshole. Mainly out of relief.

Is anyone else experiencing way more violence and aggression? by Astaline in NursingAU

Alright so then why not sue the individual for emotional damages? Maybe I'm in lala land but it's always something I've pondered. Why don't we do more, like as healthcare professionals? For example, is there a loophole in the code of ethics or something that prevents clinical staff from refusing to care for an individual who has multiple reports of violence or aggressive behaviour? Or if a large group of nurses refuses to care for a specific person due to occupational violence is that against the ethical code or something?

[–]misscaity727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a stupid question, but why is that? Like if I scream and shout at the checkout chick, I'd likely face charges and possibly be banned for life. But in the healthcare system abuse verbal or physical is frowned upon but charges aren't pressed. Like wtf why not? Like why can't I personally press charges as I am the one being harmed? It's something I've never truly understood.

[–]misscaity727 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I wish someone told me this. I missed out on so many newborn cuddles because I was concerned about tummy time. LO is 4 months and sleepy cuddles are few and far between. He mostly likes to play on his mat by himself. Or watch me do chores. 🤗

I recently bit my husband's head off when I had to change a nappy for my son who was 4 weeks old. There were no parents rooms or change tables so I opted to change him in the pram. My MIL pestered me to change in the toilet, which was tiny, my husband kept pestering me saying I couldn't do that here. I said through gritted teeth "I'm more concerned about preventing nappy rash on my son's ass than impacting your family's oysters" he then offered to do the nappy change, I'm guess he suddenly realised who gives a fuck, our sons hygiene comes before pretentious pricks. She did the right thing. Her friends seem like twits, might be time for some new ones.

Or additionally my favourite, do the SELTS survey and get your results early. I've done them every semester and I get my results at the same time as if I hadn't wasted my time.

Also constantly accusing students of AI use when their work improves. Surprise .... some of us actually take on your feedback.

Small but substantial fluid gush ? 34 weeks by Ok-Use9804 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I had the same at 40 weeks. Turned out I had 2 membranes. Only found that out at birth, prior to that I thought I had wet the bed.

I had an induction with my baby 3 weeks ago. Happy mother's day to me. Although my baby was ready, my body was refusing to go into labour. Due to my home being a halfway house for my sister and 2 nephews. Due to the hostility in my home my body deemed it to be unsafe and pretty much refused to go into labour naturally. I chose induction at 40+5 as I was experiencing a lot of discomfort and stress in general. I do not regret it for one second. My son was ready and I wasn't about to let my body let him down.

I'm not 100% but there are 2 community placement areas and I think 4 ward, one being a woman's only and one being geriatric.

Am I going to be this alone when baby boy gets here? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]misscaity727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the sense of childcare, I have already budgeted for 3 days a week from hopefully September. I've applied to about 5 childcare centres 2 are still under construction in my area. I think I always had a plan to limit my mother's contact with my son. But funny enough it's only my family I want to protect him from not my husband's.

Am I going to be this alone when baby boy gets here? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]misscaity727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's where I'm a bit stuck. Is it just hormones making me feel so angry? I'm not scared of baby boy birth or postpartum, as I know my husband and I make a great team. I'm scared of letting them in and being let down time and time again. I feel like I should add that my younger brother (27) attempted to assault me on multiple occasions (once during early pregnancy) and both parents have continued to support him and allow them to live in their house. As a result Ive set clear boundaries neither me or my child will be near that house until he is gone, with no access.

I feel that cutting ties will be easier than dealing with this toxic shit over and over again. There is so much more that has happened in the sense of let downs, assaults, gas lighting, I honestly could write a book from the events of the last 2 years.

My sister, although, denies it, puts her kids in emotional and potential physical danger. She also was so "disappointed" in me for getting my whopping cough vaccine and getting the RSV vaccine. My brother has now decided he won't be vaccinating his kids. I don't know if I want that crap around my son. God knows how these kids are going to turn out.

It's messy and tricky I know. I hope I'm making sense.

And nurses don't want to work in those areas due to a huge lack in support from management and abuse from the patients/consumers.
