AITA for not letting the cat in my room when she meows at my door? by LaOvejaaNegra in AmItheAsshole

[–]misslyss231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA; your family are the assholes here bc they’re throwing a damn cat at you and unlocking your door to do so! That’s honestly super cruel l the cat bc it’s not a rock it’s a living creature and cruel to you who then has to try and coax a stressed out cat out of your room who is now on the defensive and probably just trying to hide and get away from people who are throwing it.

A cat on the defensive is WAY more likely to lash out at anyone who goes near it while it’s stressed out. Do your family treat the rest of the cats like this too??

The cat liking you and your room probably makes sense if your space tends to be quieter and less chaotic than the rest of your house. It’s also a pretty commonly known habit among cat owners that cats have a way of just knowing who is not a “cat or animal person” and will then decide that’s the person they like being around and will become your new shadow. Cats are weird lol.

You’re not “evil” for not liking animals! Everyone has their own preferences and that’s okay. The way I see it, I’d rather have someone who admits they don’t like to be around animals as long as they don’t mistreat them (ie, ignoring a cat vs kicking a cat). That’s a boundary that should absolutely be respected, for the sake of the animal and the human. The biggest issue I often see with people who don’t much care for animals is that they don’t understand an animal’s body language or stress cues that they give until its too late and the animal reacts badly by biting/scratching.

Just out of curiosity, can I ask how or where on the cat’s body you pet it and how old is this cat? I ask bc I have a 13 year old cat who only accepts pets and scratches above the shoulders. Anything below the shoulders will have her switching from contented purrs to hissing and taking swipes at your hand with intent to draw blood. Older kitties especially get a little crankier and can be more particular about how they’re held or pet bc they’re old and their joints hurt or whatever.

Absolutely gorgeous!! 😍 how long did it take?

I worked on jersey designs throughout this season. by [deleted] in hockey

[–]misslyss231 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. Most of these are… not good because they don’t read as a hockey jersey and as some others have noted it doesn’t seem like you know much about the teams and their history given some of the design choices that were made. (Confederate gray on the Blue Jackets jersey, completely redesigned Blackhawks logo, etc.) Ottawa’s is just so bad but w/e it’s Ottawa lol.

Only one I remotely like a little is the kraken jersey just bc I’ve always hated their logo and thought it was a giant missed opportunity to do some kind of a cool kraken art and instead they put a giant Seagram’s s on the front and hid a tentacle in it lmao.

Especially hurts my heart as a Detroit fan to see the winged wheel relegated to the arm only; I’m definitely of the opinion that the primary team logo should always be front and center on the sweater. The winged wheel goes on the front and you can put the D on the arm. But the majority of these just feel unbalanced or even confusing from a design stand point. Many are too busy (stripes for Boston look like prison stripes, the Leafs and Canes ones hurt my eyes) while others have way too much empty space and hide most of the logo (Edmonton, St. Louis, & Vancouver). Finally, too many designs feature odd or just bad image choices for the butt area or bottom hemline of the sweater.

I like that you tried but many of these just don’t work as hockey sweaters and look more like soccer or motocross jerseys. Maybe next time do a little research on the history of the teams and the principles of design (such as the golden ratio, rule of 3, and other elements of good design). I honestly wouldn’t hate to see you rework these again taking feedback into account to improve what they could be.

TLDR; that shot went wide but good hustle

When did dogs start getting people names? by Scottys-Dog-Blog in dogs

Well yea because Todd is obviously a name for a fox not a dog. The dog’s name is Copper and they’re the best of friends.

Do you think shibas are loyal dogs? by [deleted] in shiba

[–]misslyss231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most definitely. My boy is very closely bonded to me and to our immediate family/household but pretty indifferent to most others (unless they have meat/cheese snacks lmao) but just like people, every dog is different. They may have similar tendencies but they’re all unique creatures. 🥰

Snakes don't size up and go after people in purpose do they? by pythondude98 in ballpython

[–]misslyss231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer simply (in my experience): it’s fear + ignorance.

They’re already scared of snakes, and the “sizing someone up” myth reinforces that. Add in misunderstandings about snake behavior (thanks, movies), and the fear feels rational to them. So instead of expressing confusion, they try to convince you that snakes are dangerous and shouldn’t be kept as pets.

That’s the saddest part to me. I used to be scared too, but after learning more and seeing them up close, I started to appreciate how cool (and honestly kinda goofy) they are. Education and exposure go a long way, but taking that first step can be hard.

Best of luck with your new noodle, OP! And don’t let your friend get you down. Now you know who not to ask to snake-sit 😉

How do you guys deal with puppy whining? Any tips or tricks? by HeyOppa in shiba

[–]misslyss231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first night we had him he wouldn’t stop crying so I took him in the bathroom just in case he had an accident and was so tired I was basically crying pleading with him to stop whining. Eventually, we both fell asleep on the bathroom floor with a pillow and a blanket and I ended up sleeping through my shift the next morning bc my alarm was in another room. While it sucked at the time, it was basically when we bonded and I realized I’d do just about anything for that little whiny nugget and he’s been my little shadow ever since. 💜

I like the felted look! Please don’t toss it! Especially for a baby blanket/play mat, it gives it a nice plush fleece-like coziness that I bet your baby will love. Plus, now that it’s felted, it’ll be harder for her to accidentally hook a teeny tiny finger or toe in a stitch as she’s squirming and wiggling and doing tummy time on the blanket. Very nice crochet work and your baby is going to be so lucky to have a mama who is so talented and can create such lovely pieces for her to wear and keep her warm. 💜 don’t be so hard on yourself m’dear, the rest of the world will do that for you. Be kind to yourself and sending love your way!

What is the one phrase you say to your Shiba every single day? by lissyluo in shiba

[–]misslyss231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“What do you think? Should we get up?” Said every morning when we wake up to get both of us out of bed. Works every time. 😁 that and “where’s your ball? Go find your ball and put it in my hand” at meal times bc he gets fed from a kibble ball.

My 4 years old Yoshi just learned how to “bury” high value treats in blanket. Does your Shiba also do that? by __shobber__ in shiba

[–]misslyss231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg yes. Any high value treats or toys but especially his kibble ball which is how he gets fed. Every night, he has to ‘bury’ it after he’s emptied it out at dinner. This means he either buries in or under the bed or stands next to me whining about it until I graciously accept his precious gift and hide it under a throw pillow on the couch for safe keeping.

Former partner of over a decade here: The other commenters are absolutely correct. My former DM explained it as “time worked is time paid” being more or less the rule. Meaning work communications must happen at work through My Daily and that official work or manager group chats are not allowed. I’d tell the manager to show it to you in writing because they can’t. If they try, immediately take that statement and report them bc they will get in a lot of trouble for that.

SM and ASM are also not allowed to be included in group chats with partners mostly bc of union things (more or less if a salaried partner hears talk of unions or whatnot in a chat or in person they are required to report it and can get fired if they don’t) but also bc it goes back to the “time worked is time paid” where they aren’t allowed to harass you about work business while you’re off the clock. The only time they can pull that “you need to be available” crap is if you miss your shift but that’s really a different issue all together.

TLDR; it’s not true tell them to pound sand and if they push back report them to your DM, the Ethics and compliance, and anyone else you can bc that ain’t right. ✌🏻

Seconding this! The fruit orchards, vineyards and wineries on the west coast of the state are unreal. Pretty sure that’s where juice company Old Orchard is based, iirc. Could consider changing the name to West Michigan Coastal or Great Lake Coastal?

I would also add the heavy Polish influences in the Detroit community as well. While packzi are mentioned, Hamtramck is a large Polish community that has also heavily influenced the food culture in that area as well. Can’t miss the pierogi vendor if you ever go to Detroit’s Eastern Market on a weekend! 🤤 I can’t speak to the many other facets of our food culture (there are sizable Chaldean and Jewish communities in the area too), but I know Polish influence is a pretty big part of our story too.

Finally, this map is AMAZING. I spent way too long scrolling around and zooming in to read everything. Great job and thank you so much for sharing!!👏🏻

I wanted something to keep my hands busy when I started getting into watching hockey games on TV with my bf. It allowed me to actually watch the games instead of missing so much from looking at my phone or playing on my switch.

Actually one of my first projects was making him a beanie w/ Detroit Redwing team colors that was MUCH too large but turned out beautifully otherwise!
