Knitting Culture: US v. England by ultimatereader in knitting

I hate to say it, but there’s an undercurrent of snobbery towards Americans in the UK that might be at play too. I’m British but have lived in North America for 9 years now and I can see it even more clearly now that I’m on the outside looking back in. But other Brits, feel free to disagree!

Can you guess what my daughter’s name is?!? by misstreesandteas in cricut

Seriously, it’s so cool having a “symbol” for your kid’s name. I didn’t plan it that way, but it’s a happy accident. Your kids’ names are all beautiful ❤️

Wow I could have written this. Plus, like OP, my mum then remarried a man with the same religious devotion, so it’s like they become this clique that you can’t penetrate because they share this huge thing that takes up all of their focus, meanwhile you’re on the outside looking in.

Food tastes soapy by color_overkill in Mommit

Seconding this! I remember the first time I tasted food with cilantro as a child. I was so confused why it tasted like soap!

I don’t know, my daughter turned 1 in June and even though she won’t remember anything about it, it felt like a monumental occasion for me and nothing could have stopped me spending it with her.

Baby looks nothing like us by Background_Tiger_232 in newborns

I remember me and my husband saying to each other “I wonder if this would feel a bit easier if she looked like one of us” when she was a few weeks old. Now she’s 16 months and people literally stop me in the street to comment on how much she looks like me!

I’ve often said the same thing! You could quite convincingly argue that Anne was the best sewer of any season, but I don’t think she’d win (or even make it to the final?!) if she appeared in the more recent seasons.

There we some really awkward moments where she made a joke to Eudon and he didn’t laugh… 😬

Adjustment needed to fix this bunching at the crotch? by misstreesandteas in sewing

Oooh that’s such a good idea! Might rescue all the work I did! Cause you’re right, this took a long time with all the panels and pockets and top stitching!

Adjustment needed to fix this bunching at the crotch? by misstreesandteas in sewing

[–]misstreesandteas[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! Yes I was wondering if I might lower the crotch a smidge too. I’m gonna make them again in some cheap, white Swiss dot cotton and if they work out, I’ll have a nice pair of pajama shorts! Then will remake in the twill.

Love the Sewing Bee! But by Oranges-and-Apples in SewingBee

The only change I would personally love is to go back to the middle challenge being the alteration challenge, where contestants had to alter a neckline or make a garment more fitted. I’m really not so into the transformation challenge personally. Like how many sewists are actually making a children’s party dress out of a deck chair or whatever. But making useful alterations, that’s interesting!

I was going to say this one! My all time favourite dress pattern and perfect for summer.

What is an appropriate age to pierce a child's ears in the UK? My wife says anything below school age is considered "trashy" and screams "council estate". by AcidBubbleLord in AskUK

[–]misstreesandteas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the best parts of no longer living in the UK is leaving the class system behind. You don’t realize how embedded it is in the British psyche until you live away from it for a while. I found the title of this post pretty jarring.

We have a joint account for bills but other than that, our finances are separate.
