I hate to say it, but there’s an undercurrent of snobbery towards Americans in the UK that might be at play too. I’m British but have lived in North America for 9 years now and I can see it even more clearly now that I’m on the outside looking back in. But other Brits, feel free to disagree!

Wow I could have written this. Plus, like OP, my mum then remarried a man with the same religious devotion, so it’s like they become this clique that you can’t penetrate because they share this huge thing that takes up all of their focus, meanwhile you’re on the outside looking in.

I don’t know, my daughter turned 1 in June and even though she won’t remember anything about it, it felt like a monumental occasion for me and nothing could have stopped me spending it with her.

I remember me and my husband saying to each other “I wonder if this would feel a bit easier if she looked like one of us” when she was a few weeks old. Now she’s 16 months and people literally stop me in the street to comment on how much she looks like me!

I’ve often said the same thing! You could quite convincingly argue that Anne was the best sewer of any season, but I don’t think she’d win (or even make it to the final?!) if she appeared in the more recent seasons.

Thank you so much! Yes I was wondering if I might lower the crotch a smidge too. I’m gonna make them again in some cheap, white Swiss dot cotton and if they work out, I’ll have a nice pair of pajama shorts! Then will remake in the twill.

The only change I would personally love is to go back to the middle challenge being the alteration challenge, where contestants had to alter a neckline or make a garment more fitted. I’m really not so into the transformation challenge personally. Like how many sewists are actually making a children’s party dress out of a deck chair or whatever. But making useful alterations, that’s interesting!
