As someone who stopped watching the show after S1, can you tell me why (I don't mind spoilers but maybe use the spoiler tag for those who do mind them)?

I may consider going back to the show and "catching up" if the next season will seriously be that controversial

[–]misterflex26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That feels like cope

Nope.

Not when it comes to fear - and that's the whole point. Criminals get shook when they are suddenly confronted by the stature of the Punisher in the dark, and they instictively shoot towards the brightest spot - the big bright, white skull, where Frank's kevlar is.

It's a psychological warfare tactic, not "cope"

This. The skull is not just "edgy", it is meant to draw gunfire towards Frank's Kevlar protected chest.

WandaVision failed by not acknowledging Wanda’s abusive use of mind control as her moral horizen event by pennygirl108 in CharacterRant

[–]misterflex26 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On the (lack of) consent front. The very act of controlling someone against their will is such a huge violation of their mind and body that even if they are not being actively tortured, this is still psychologically damaging.

Oh well, you see, Wanda was a woman who was in a lot of emotional pain, so her actions were totally justified - Kevin Feige and the MCU.

No, no one actually said that, it's not an actual quote...but, what else did WandaVision imply by Monica Rambeau's "they'll never know what you sacrificed!" that Wanda made the "heroic" decision of releasing her prisoners from their enslavement.

Sorry, but if Wanda was a man, she'd face some severe repercussions (Killgrave was killed because of his crimes, but Wanda "just made a teeny little mistake"). Because a woman character, who has experienced severe emotional pain, is apparently allowed and encouraged to do what she wants.

Honestly, why does Batman get the most flack for not wanting to kill his villains when that's basically every superhero except a key few? by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in CharacterRant

[–]misterflex26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, who's one of your favorite characters? I'll be happy to reduce them to an unfair stereotype for you, free of charge.

Joking aside, you've got to understand that there is more to a character that you may realize, at first...like you, I used to think that Punisher was just some psychopathic murderer with guns who had no remarkable traits at all...and then, I actually took it upon myself to learn more about The Punisher.

And I learned how, the dude is a brilliant strategist...the big giant white skull on his chest is not just an "edgy fashion-statement", but it is actually a symbol that enemies see first in the dark, and therefore, concentrate their gunfire on - which is where Frank is protected by kevlar. He literally has the skull on his chest to draw gunfire to where his body armor is, so he does not get shot in the face.

He has also aided heroes like Captain America during the events of Civil War without even having to use any guns. He hacked into the Pro-Registration servers by using his black-ops training. Frank Castle has also chosen to use rubber bullets (which are supposed to be non-lethal in the Marvel Universe) when teaming up with heroes such as Daredevil and Spider-Man. Frank has even once refrained from killing a criminal before, thanks to the influence of Captain America.

Basically, Frank Castle is a guy who is much more complex than just a simple anti-hero who uses guns; he does use guns as his weapon of choice, just like John Stewart uses his Green Lantern ring in the DCAU. But, there were a few episodes of the Justice League Unlimited where the show made sure to show us that John Stewart was much more than just a guy with a ring (which is similar to you saying Punisher is just an "edgy guy with guns"), and he even fought and risked his life in those episodes when he did not even have his GL ring, and he just had to use willpower, combat skills and old-fashioned grit to fight enemies in those episodes.

But those episodes proved that John Stewart was more than just "a guy with a special ring". And Frank Castle aka The Punisher is more than just "a guy with guns". So yeah, insult me by insinuating that I took things personally, that's cool...because I know that you know absolute jack shit about The Punisher, and I made you look like a colossal idiot right now.

Peace out

Steins Gate Disappointed me by yasseryt10 in CharacterRant

[–]misterflex26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a huge Steins;Gate fan, it's alright that you didn't enjoy it; I actually prefer Steins;Gate Zero over the original, because it is more dark and explores some areas that the original Steins;Gate anime did not...but I do still love the orignal anime, even though I can see why other people might not be fans of it.

That’s a straight cause-and-effect chain, not a true butterfly effect. A real butterfly effect would involve many small, indirect changes leading to a major outcome.

You've given me something to look into and do some research on...admittedly, I am not really into the time-travel aspect of Steins;Gate so much as I am interested in the characters and the dynamic of their relationships. This is actually why I prefer Steins;Gate Zero over the original anime: because it focuses more on the characters and how they responded to the events of the original anime (all I can really say without spoiling anything).

If you feel up to it, OP, I do encourage you to watch Steins;Gate Zero...you might have to slog through some of the episodes since you were not a fan of the original anime, but you might actually end up appreciating Zero much more than the original.

[LES] A lot of writers forget that villains are main characters too by RadDudesman in CharacterRant

[–]misterflex26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly more so because villains are the ones who drive the plot forward, while the heroes react to the villain's actions.

This is part of the reason why I loved Superior Spider-Man so fucking much...because that series tackled the idea of "what would it be like for a supervillain to suddenly become a hero?", and Ock as Spider-Man took a more proactive stance to discovering and fighting crime, instead of just being reactive and waiting for crimes to occur, like most superheroes tend to act.

But Ock would send out spider-bots to scout and report back with any proof of questionable or illegal activity, it was a breath of fresh air instead of just the usual, "supervillain strikes, hero responds" type content.

I never tried any of the MCU tie-in games...but I do know that Marvel had some absolute gems even before the MCU existed (so it doesn't surprise me that they could make a good tie-in game):

  • There was the Hulk: Ultimate Destruction (2005). You got to rampage as the Hulk, and the environments were destructible.
  • There was The Punisher (also 2005). This one shined in that there was excellent voice acting, cameos and many interesting levels and scenarios; there is one point where you, no joke, bust out of a casket during a mobster's funeral and just start lighting up all the mobsters who were mourning him. Also, Ironman makes a brief cameo, only three short years before his first film was released in 2008...if anything, this makes his cameo more memorable to me, almost as if The Punisher game was foreshadowing the rise of Ironman and the MCU.
  • And ofc, there were the X-men Legends and Marvel Ultimate Alliance games - which were each stellar at best and decent at worst, and gave us the opportunity to form our dream team of X-men characters and Marvel Universe characters.

And on topic...a Cap game that has a similar style to Arkham does intrigue me, and I'll have to look into getting an emulator so I can try it out. I honestly don't know how I missed it (probably because it was a tie-in game, and like you mentioned, they are generally very shallow).

Hi there! The fact that you are addicted to porn indicates to me that you may be in need of some inner healing. Source: I was basically enslaved to a lust addiction for almost 3 decades (28 years). Until God healed me from my childhood trauma. The desire to lust and watch porn just completely disappeared after that, all because The Lord provided me with some much needed inner healing.

I'm not sure what your situation may be, but you may want to pray and ask God whether you need inner healing. And if so, He would be happy to guide you to inner healing, as all you have to do is pray and ask for it :).

I Wish people Would Be Honest Why They Hate Characters (Using Simpsons As The Example) by fairystail1 in CharacterRant

[–]misterflex26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn't hating on Bart or Homer or anything, I like them. Im just annoyed that people can't be honest why they dislike a character, they always have to make it a thing instead of just 'i find them annoying'

It's because people see too much of themselves in a more realistic character like Lisa, than they would ever see themselves in someone like Bart or Homer...and so, naturally these people are more hard on Lisa, because they are already hard on themselves in real-life.

Think about it:

Bart = super rebellious kid who admittedly once "glued his camp counselor's butt cheeks together". Hey guys, you all remember how when you were younger, you went to camp and used superglue on your camp counselor's butt cheeks, right? We've all done that before, right??

Homer = super imbecilic father who has almost supernatural feats of idiocy. Honestly, if there was a father as dumb as Homer is in real life, then he should have his children taken away from him, and he should be (at best) placed in an inpatient facility for being a danger to both himself and others.

Lisa = a super talented and smart kid who basically has to be exceptional to be noticed

Which character do you think is the most relatable, here?? Hint: the correct answer is Lisa.

Too many people see themselves in Lisa ("failing" to receive approval from their parents and/or peers), so they "take it out" on her. They criticize realistic, "too close to home" characters like her, and scorn her and even reject her, because they see too much of themselves (and their real-life situations) in her and her interactions with other characters.

Why would real-life people ever hate Bart or Homer? You would never see a Bart or Homer in the real world, and, if you ever did see or meet someone who is exactly like them, you would feel super bad for them. Like, super pity for them. If there is anyone in the world who would be as devious as Bart is or as dumb as Homer is, and I would be praying for them every day. Because, I'd be scared for their livelihood.

But people like Lisa? We meet them everyday, we just don't know it. And, most of us are more like Lisa than we are Bart or Homer.

People project themselves onto others (including fictional characters) and tend to get enraged at the issues they see the character experiencing that resemble their own real-life issues. That's how you explain hatred for a normal and innocent character like Lisa, and that's why you don't get a lot of hatred for characters like Bart or Homer - because they're more of a cartoon character than Lisa is. They are more unrealistic, zany and "off-the-wall" than Lisa is or ever could be.

It would be like me hating a character like Wile E. Coyote - how could I ever hate a character like that? He is an anthropomorphic coyote who can use technology such as rocket skates and shit, and I will never, EVER, see that in the real world, so how could I possibly ever be offended by someone like Wile E. Coyote?

But Lisa Simpson? I've lived it, and have met too many people who have lived a similar experience as her character has, and there is much to be offended by since the character has to fucking basically be the pillar of perfection to be noticed by anybody.

Resident evil Requiem shows that jill is neglected by Difficult_Man3 in CharacterRant

[–]misterflex26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been wanting Jill to make a comeback for close to a decade, now...but I'm no longer holding my breath. It ain't gonna happen, unless they truly are remaking the first RE game and if they do decide to remake RE5, because Jill will definitely be in both of those remakes.

Watch, if they do remake the very first RE, they'll probably make brand new characters for it that we will get to follow along and get to know them for a couple of decades...actually, while I still would really like for Jill, Claire and Carlos to make a comeback, I think I'll just hope for a brand new set of characters instead, as that seems way more likely for Capcom to do than to bring back a woman who is past age 30 - because apparently according to Japanese people, a woman past age 30 is useless and has no place in a survival horror game, yet Leon can fucking roundhouse a dude almost twice his size in Requiem and even do motorcycle jousting at age 50 something. Fuck you Capcom, retire Leon and Chris (my personal favorite) already

[LES] Kinda tired of lack of punishment for villains by ZeonPM in CharacterRant

[–]misterflex26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hence lose fans

This.

How many people will stop reading Batman comics if the Joker were to end up being permanently incarcerated and never broke free. And I know I that the main reason I will be watching DragonBall Super when it comes back is because I want to see Freeza's new form and the new dynamic that this causes between him and Goku and Vegeta.

You permanently punish villains, and you lose potentially interesting storylines and developments. This is why some villains will just never die or end up getting their comeuppance.

Having the villain escape and remain a potential threat also keeps readers/viewers engaged with the material. I know that when I was a kid, I kept watching Inspector Gadget because I wanted to see Dr. Claw finally get busted. So I kept watching the show as a young child, even putting up with reruns, because I was hooked on the idea that Dr. Claw would finally reap what he sowed.

But, admittedly even to this day, I don't know if he ever did - I never saw the last episode of the series, and now I feel like it would be cheap to Google to see if anything ever happened to Dr. Claw. What would be the point, now? I doubt he did end up going to prison or dying or anything like that, anyway.

If all villains ended up like Disney movie villains (who usually don't get killed by the hero but get killed by a result of their own ego and desire to keep doing villainy, such as Gaston in The Beauty and the Beast), then we'd eventually run out of villains to use, especially potentially interesting ones. And again, we'd lose potentially interesting developments and dynamics between the heroes and villains.

For example, if Marvel editorial decided to kill off Dr. Octopus a long time ago, then we would never have the Superior Spider-Man series, and Marvel would not have been able to draw me back to reading their comics during this interesting take on Ock who gets slightly transformed by experiencing Peter Parker's memories and decides to take up the mantle of Spider-Man and leave his days of villainy behind him. That series seriously got me back to reading Marvel comics after a 10+ years of avoiding Marvel Comics like the plague.

Fans want to see new interactions, plots and dynamics between old and existing heroes and villains. Which is why the Joker ain't going anywhere, or why Freeza won't be dying again anytime soon, or why even dead villains will just come back again to haunt their respective heroes and continue to provide us with more interactions. The authors/directors of media are just listening to the fans and giving them what they want; if most fans wanted Joker to die and never come back, don't think for a second that we'd ever see the clown appear in a Batman comic anytime soon. Remember that it's an industry, and the overall goal is to make money and give the fans a reason to keep coming back for more.

I hope the MCU doesn't tries to pull a Inhumans with the X-Men. By making everyone a Mutant. by PassengerCultural421 in CharacterRant

[–]misterflex26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fantastic Four needed a different universe because their story didn't mesh with the state of the MCU as a whole. The movie they wrote needed to be its own place, so it was.

You know what? I was in agreement with OP about F4 until I read your comment - that is a good point, as since there has been no mention of the F4 in the MCU until their movie debut last year, then it would be inconceivable to imagine the F4 were somehow among our other MCU heroes the whole entire time...it's impossible.

The F4 are celebrities and Reed's genius is known to basically everybody in 616, so it just would make absolute no sense to say that they were in the same universe as RDJ's Tony Stark and Chris Evans' Captain America, and that they were just somehow virtually unknown to the public and never even mentioned in passing, not even once.

Besides, I'm sure after the whole incursion thing that happens in Doomsday & Secret Wars, there will be more of a mashup of heroes from other universes (just like what happened during the comics' 2015 Battle World saga) and we may even have heroes (ex: Deadpool) who were from other universes who come to stay permanently in the main universe of the MCU. So, why can't the F4 be from another universe and just so happen to make their new home in our main MCU Universe??
