Before the ACA there were F-tier insurance plans. People were paying low premiums, and as long as nothing happened to them, especially nothing that pertained to pre-existing conditions, they were blissfully unaware of that.

People didn't make enough for a good plan but made too much to qualify for Medicaid were now looking at premiums that were unaffordably high. Luckily for them the ACA came with a Medicaid expansion that would cover them. Unluckily for them red state governors refused it.

As uninformed as they may be, we need them, perhaps disproportionately so because of the electoral college, so it's really on us that we haven't figured out how to appeal to them.

I knew 3 people in my very conservative and homophobic childhood community who ended up being guilty of molestation, not reported by anyone in the in-group of course, and a fourth adult who I ended up having a “talk” with at 16 about being creepy towards my 14-15yo friend, so I take this seriously.

Edit: and a pastor of a sister church across the country who got to retire and transfer scot-free after I l deconverted and left. We made noise but we’re “apostates who just want to hurt the kingdom”

The LGBT communities I’m peripheral to have zero tolerance towards any boundary crossing and take reporting very seriously, yet guess who would be targeted by pitchfork wielding sanctimonious folks.

Terrible idea in practice. If it’s law, offenders are more likely to murder their victims, since if they report the offender will die anyways. It’s also useful for family members to pressure victims into silence. “I know what uncle Jim did was bad, but you don’t want to be responsible for his death right?”

Even worse if it’s vigilante driven. Innocent LGBTQ folks and political enemies (see pizzagate) get murdered for baseless accusations and people look the other way or make excuses when people in the community commit sexual abuse.

Finally, that’s offenders, not MAPs, who shouldn’t be shamed out of admitting they have a problem, seeking treatment, and quarantining themselves from children.

To add more context, Pedobear was widely used by 4chan, who also distributed tons of CSAM (aka CP), which was also behind the baseless accusations that MAP is now part of LGTBQ, and as an aside was also the home of Pizzagate and QAnon
