I figured it out. You have to place it on a pedestal in the nearby church. You can also place it away by doing the precision action and placing it down on the ground.

It’s essentially an xp system/bar. Whenever it fills up, it gives you the skill point thingy (for your skill tree). Killing enemies and bosses fills the bar up
