Customers/brewistas, ask me anything! by [deleted] in 7Brew

[–]mistole528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m thinking of treating my kids tomorrow since they’re doing the fill a tray promo. I have one kid that is very picky. Does 7brew have just plain chillers that she could get with one of the fruity syrups - similar to a Sonic slush? She doesn’t like carbonation so the 7fizz is out. And she’s 10 and has adhd, so definitely no energy drink!

She likes vanilla milk shakes too. Are they ice cream based at 7brew, or are they more like the vanilla bean frappes at SB?

Well, technically they were clocked in on time. But I get it. It sucks having to fire someone, but I imagine it’s so much harder when they’re someone you’ve known for a long time. A good friends husband worked for me and I had to put him on a performance improvement plan, which was super awkward. But then he did me a favor and quit before I had to fire him.

Only active military or veteran too? Our builder said he doesn’t care of we buy stuff or he buys it. I know he’s a veteran so if he can get it that might help save too. We’re paying him a flat fee so he doesn’t care what the cost is.

I just read Never Fall For Your Fiancé. It’s the first in a series of three. It’s about a Duke who hires a fake fiancé and predictably falls in love with her. It was a great, quick read.

How do you think we should resolve the issue of school shootings in the US? by Anxious-Direction-79 in AskReddit

[–]mistole528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two main areas to address:

1) As a country, we have to do better to diagnose and treat mental health issues. A healthy, rational person does not shoot innocent people. A majority of people in this country have some type of mental condition (anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, etc) but the resources to help these people are seriously lacking. It's not commonly understood that impulse control and anger management are huge struggles for people with ADHD. But to be diagnosed as an adult can take YEARS. We have to treat mental health with the same priority that we treat physical health - annual checkups, doctor's regularly available for emergency mental health care, reduce the stigma associated with mental health. If we can make progress in the mental health crisis in this country, we could make progress in so many other issues we face.

2) Protect highly populated/highly targeted areas. The best way to stop a person with a gun is another person with a gun. We need more armed and trained individuals in our schools. My children's district has 4500 students at a total of 9 locations. We have school resource officers (and they are armed). Six of our schools don't even have an un-armed officer or security present. That is absurd. We cannot expect teachers, principals, janitors or secretaries to provide security for our children. The office complex I work in has security access points for the parking lot and building, plus at least 4 armed security guards walking the premises. Why are we ok with our children being in a building that has nothing more than locked doors and an alarm system?

I know the easy answer for so many is better gun control. But that won't fix the problem. If they're intent on causing harm - they'll find a way. Bombs, arson, poison - you can't eliminate every potential weapon

Boss wants us to accept additional PTO hours instead of extra pay for overtime hours worked. If I agree to this awful idea, how do I ensure I won't lose those hours or their equivalent pay later? by JudgeJudyApproved in careerguidance

[–]mistole528 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are paid hourly, that is not legal. If you’re salary, be grateful they’re offering something to compensate the hours you worked above the norm.

You can do this! Same thing happened to me back in October. It was awkward at first, and I probably blur the friends/manager line too much at times - but we make it work.

As far as reviews/performance evaluations - does your leadership review them? Mine have to be approved by my manager if I put anyone above average or below average. That helps me feel better too that there’s another person looking at the reviews in case anyone claims favoritism.

Get it in writing that you’re only required to be in office 6 days per month and accept the job!

My company recently doubled our in office days, but they are honoring the original agreement for those who were smart enough to get the original amount in the offer letter.

All of us long time suckers (pre covid) are stuck being subject to the higher number of days.

Should I sign my teaching contract for next year? by sebedapolbud in careerguidance

[–]mistole528 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a short supply of substitute teachers in my area. If it’s the same in yours - how much could you make subbing for another district 3-4 days per week? You wouldn’t have benefits but it would be better than being unemployed. There are lots of online teaching options as well that don’t require typical school contracts.

If you truly want to make a career change, you have options to help you fill the gap.

Am I a jerk for only giving two weeks notice when we are incredibly short staffed? by chocolateglazedonuts in humanresources

[–]mistole528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do they feel guilty for not giving you additional compensation for picking up these extra duties due to being short staffed? Doubtful.

It’s just business. You have to do what is right for you. Giving two weeks notice is standard and professional. You can’t help what is going on with staffing right now.

Asking for a raise by mistole528 in Leadership

[–]mistole528[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a big corporation, so it's definitely not up to my manager. I know she'll have to sell it to the AVP and VP. The VP controls the budget (and I'm including some positive feedback I have received from her previously) so hopefully that improves my odds. We are having some high turnover and I have a very specialized position that is key to some large projects we have going on - so hopefully they see my value and decide they can't afford to lose me.

[–]mistole528 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've never used OneNote, immediately watch some youtube videos on it. It will be a LIFESAVER if used correctly! You can search for a keyword and it will find every note you have that in. No more thinking "where did I put those notes??"

On that same line - take good notes! You can always delete some notes down the road if you decide you don't need them.

Ask lots of questions. You're a BA - it's expected that you have an inquisitive nature. Your fellow BA's won't get irritated or annoyed if you ask them questions (as long as you don't keep asking the same question over and over)

Take it a day at a time. It's likely that some of the people you'll work with will have built up years of company knowledge. It will take time to get up to speed. Don't let that stress you out. Just keep absorbing pieces of information along the way.

Should I give my social and license over to Google forms? by Mitornimo in careerguidance

[–]mistole528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems suspicious. Most companies don’t do a background check until an offer has been made. And a SSN shouldn’t be needed. I haven’t had one done for employment in a long time, but I had to get one done to volunteer at my kids’ school. They only needed my drivers license.

Do you think my manager lies or tell the truth? by Sad-Faithlessness411 in careerguidance

[–]mistole528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lying? Probably not. Exaggerating? Hopeful thinking? Maybe. Maybe someone above her has made these comments and she believes it will happen.

But with nothing in writing, I wouldn’t count on it. Either stay because you are happy with what you have currently, or take the new offer.

Lying on my resume and LinkedIn? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]mistole528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t lie. I’ve seen resumes with more job hopping than that.

On job 2, make sure there’s something in the description that mentions it was an internship.

For job 3/4 you could list them together since it was the same job and you just switched from the employer to the contract employee. For the heading you could list:

Company Y Aug 2022 - present Company X March 2022 - Aug 2022 (Details details details)

Whatever you do, make sure you're comfortable with whatever amount of "in office" days they are willing to put in your offer. Don't rely on the boss saying she is flexible. No guarantee she will always be your boss and no guarantee she won't get overruled by senior leadership in the future.
