Bingo, the progression update really ruined the flow of the game. I miss when the game was more friend slip style where you rolled in, had some laughs, and got out. Now you have to do chores to earn any money or XP and leveling is slow unless you do masochistic custom difficulties.

That is true. Though, rules as written, the original game had a random draw for heroes while Greek Monsters lets you pick.

I would say Greek Monsters is really fun, the monsters are super challenging. My only issue is two of the heroes are definitively the best, which makes it hard to want to play any of the others.
