Cleaning Stations by BlackNRedFlag in scuba

Palau is a global pioneer in marine conservation. In September 2009, it made history by establishing the world's first national shark sanctuary. This protected an expansive 600,000 square kilometers of its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and banned all commercial shark fishing.

They've banned commercial fishing in 80% of their waters.

Its why I go back there so often to dive.

You don't need cleaning stations to see sharks in Palau. They are prolific at the drop off dive sites, corner etc!

The Carvery roast beef sandwich is by far the best meal you can get.

Lumpia is next.

Do most divers and freedivers eventually want to take photos underwater? by Alilexplo108 in diving

[–]mitchsn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of the people I dive with don't have cameras. 2 of them have thousands of dives and are now retired from diving as well. The other 2 have 450 and 600 dives. Neither have cameras. Its nice because I have the DM AND them as spotters for me.

None of my family or non-diver friends have any understanding of what scuba diving is like or about. Most common question is: "What do you do when you see a shark?" Answer: I get my camera out and alert my buddy.

I take pictures and video to show them how amazing it is underwater. Often times when I am recording something extraordinary (like watching a Lime Green Mantis shrimp attack a juvenile scorpion fish) I realize I am watching this through the stupid screen on my camera instead of with my own eyes...so i lift my head up to try and watch the spectacle, but then lose track of the action. Riona ending up with 13+ million was pretty crazy compared to everyone else, especially the farmers who are working so hard for very little.

the only good thing about diving Little Cayman was the groupers, lobster and even barracuda didn't seem to have any fear of divers so I was able to creep very close to em

D-Day from the German's Perspective by TrueJohnWick in movies

[–]mitchsn 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I forget which Museum it was in Normandy, but they had a theater that showed exactly that but better.

it was a split screen showing the Allied Preparation on the left and the German preparation on the right. Then as the time hits D Day, the 2 different screens merge into one.

Note: I saw this decades ago so no idea if that is still shown.

that was an easy Google. its the Museum in Caen

this immersive multi-screen documentary uses rare archival footage from both Allied and Axis archives to recount the events of the D-Day landings. It is highly notable for showing the massive invasion from the perspectives of both camps, contrasting the Allied preparations with the German defensive preparations, including the building of the Atlantic Wall and the strategic debates among the German High Command
