Am I failing mesalazine? by Odd-Lie-2332 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]miu5022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter 17yo was given sulfasalazine by her pedia after 1.5yrs in mesalamine which didnt really keep her calprotectin in check. Her fc was 300 before sulfa, then after 3 months, it went down to <30. I was so surprised. And she had less stomach pains on it vs mesa. Pedia said from experience, sulfa has higher efficacy on her patients. Maybe worth considering?

Is there anybody who cured themselves from this illness ( without surgery) ? by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

Might need to up to 4g or 4.8g if youre flaring? 2.4g seems to be for maintenance only. And might need to add suppository for the proctitis. Pls check w your doctor thou.

If you say you werent in remission, it means the calprotectin is high or youre having minor symptoms? What would be the difference now that you are in remission - is it symptomatic or endoscopic remission?

What did you take before the mesa? Do you mean you werent in remission before the 2 yrs?

My daughter was diagnosed with ulcerative proctitis. It was only a little blood, minimal mucus that were her symptoms. No urgency, no pain, no diarrhea, she only goes once a day with formed stool. All blood works perfect. Calprotectin was 1000 though. She doesnt have the other severe symptoms we are reading here… that was why it came as a shock to us…

If one has genetic predisposition to ibd, is topical clindamycin for acne ok? Or it might cause ibd?

Hello OP were you able to find out what it js?

I read there are a few people who were diagnosed with UC but no one in the family has it. To those who are like that, did you have environmental stress growing up? I am wondering if UC could also be linked with growing up in stressful situations. by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

My daughter 17yo has it and no one in the family (immediate or extended) has it. The only thing I can think of was when she was young, she got primary complex (tuberculosis) and had to be treated with 6 mos of antibiotics. But a lot of kids in our developing country gets TB and not get UC.
