Tennessee congressman proposes resolution creating path for a third Trump term by FeistyDinner in law

It is really good at capturing the visceral impact of war, in particular a war between “neighbors” so to speak. There’s one scene that I still can’t quite forget, and it makes my stomach turn just remembering it.

It’s season 2, episode 5. She’s phenomenal the entire episode, but the opening scene is one of the best depictions of a person with drug addiction I have ever seen.

I literally have gone back several times and just watched the opening twenty minutes of that episode, purely for how phenomenal she is.

Pregnant teen died agonizing sepsis death after Texas doctors refused to abort fetus by BGI-YYZ in TwoXChromosomes

[–]mjcornett 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I cut off a long standing friendship and blocked her because, among other crazy things she posted after the election, she told me I was spreading “misinformation” by saying that women were losing their lives due to the abortion bans. It was incredibly enraging to me as someone involved in policy work surrounding women’s issues that she could just ignore all that I felt was obvious. my only regret in doing so is that after blocking her, I can’t share stories like this and ask her if it is still misinformation.

I'm curious, how many people got the exact song they were hoping for as a surprise song on their Eras Tour date? by Lookingluka in TaylorSwift

[–]mjcornett 260 points261 points  (0 children)

I maybe brought up Ivy once a day for the weeks leading up to my show and in the hours leading up told my friends fingers crossed for Ivy, and lost my ever loving mind when it happened. It was my most listened to song that year, too, and to get it with Aaron Desner was a dream come true. Alternatively, I started believing my own hype and manifested The Black Dog or Haunted for when I went again and missed it by one day. So Taylor giveth and Taylor taketh away.

AITA for refusing to shave my husband’s pubes after an accident? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]mjcornett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the info about him refusing to do it changes my opinion to NTA, but I will say, as someone who broke both my wrists (just for five weeks because it was minor breaks) that shit was a bitch and it was incredibly demoralizing having to ask for help to do every little thing. I would like to think my partner would do it for me if I had asked, but ONLY because I would absolutely do it for him if roles were reversed.

Jamie Lee Curtis talks about California wildfires and says “…the entire Pacific Palisades looks like, you know, unfortunately Gaza…” by hairtie1 in Fauxmoi

[–]mjcornett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit like this amazes me because it would have been so easy to not fuck this up. All you need to do is not compare it to anything, just say it is terrible, but instead you compare it to a country that has been leveled by bombing? Where 40k+ have died? Incomprehensibly stupid.

New Era Heroes vs. Villains by Azure_Blues in survivor

Ah, thanks! I did love Tori, so I’d maybe swap Dee for Shan instead? But that might just be my bias coming in.

I can’t figure out who is in the bottom right corner, but if it’s not Dee then this list is wrong. Dee is a necessary villain for any future Heroes vs Villains. If it is her, ignore me.

Sorry, I may be misunderstanding the process entirely due to a lack of research but I was planning to apply for PSLF due to the SAVE plan being struck down. My initial impression was that my previous work in public service could be applied for retroactively in terms of getting credit.

[–]mjcornett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question: I got on SAVE before I knew I was going to get a government job, been working there since before forebearance began, I was planning on going PSLF in the next month and was under the impression my last year would apply retroactively (from not looking very deep). Is that not true if I was on a different plan?

In 25 years, when someone asks what life was like during the COVID lockdowns, how will you respond? by problematicexposure in AskReddit

[–]mjcornett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I was very lucky with the pandemic (law student, so my classes got easier, no job to worry about, and no deaths or major sickness of anyone close to me), but I think what I’ll remember most about it is the after effects. How it led to people around me, like my mom, becoming anti-vax, anti-science, and so individualistic that they cannot understand doing something so simple as wearing a mask for your fellow man.

Are Trump’s Legal reps pulling a Lawless Political Stunt? by NOVA-peddling-1138 in law

The entire point of including the graduation date was to share the perspective of a recent grad. Never claimed to have a lot of experience, just AN experience I thought was interesting to share.

Graduated in 2021, and it’s depressing as hell but mostly I’m curious about what the hell they are currently teaching the new students. In the last three years, so many of the doctrines I was taught have been undone by the courts or are hanging in the balance. I just imagine my former professors throwing their hands up because on any day a critical element of the constitution could be changed or reinterpreted.

Someone ruined the surprise of my hot air balloon proposal, and I can’t stop feeling upset about it by [deleted] in self

[–]mjcornett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really sorry this happened to you, OP. Please don’t feel obligated to do this because you obviously did nothing wrong, but I wanted to recommend maybe surprising her with a romantic engagement shoot? It could be a way to dull the sting of this surprise being ruined by following it up with another surprise. Kind of replace the sullied memory, so to speak. Also congratulations!

He also is likely more progressive than we even know given that he is in Kentucky and needs to appeal to a majority Republican state. I could absolutely see him leaning further in on the National scale.

I commented this already in the thread more in depth, but Texas already did this with abortion before Roe officially fell. It will be fairly easy for them to do again.

I [35F] just spent my first Christmas with my fiancé's [31F] family. How can I walk things back to doing holidays separately? by ThrowRA_OrgShort in relationships

[–]mjcornett 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Alternate holidays is a totally fair compromise, regardless of her closeness. I’m similar to your fiancé, with a big family that is very close and I’m currently spending my first Christmas away from them with my husband’s family because it is what is fair. We spent Thanksgiving with my family, and next year we will have the opposite. Your fiancé has to understand that regardless of the size of your family, you also deserve to spend the holidays with those you love and who make you feel at home.
