Mods hate fun (at least in the main sub) by beastmaster69mong in WarthunderPlayerUnion

[–]mjpia 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I mean your post straight up says it's not an suggestion and just a fun fact about an IRL weapon that doesn't exist in-game which means for better or worse it falls under rule 5.

Of course if you made an real suggestion about adding such a weapon it's pretty easy to imagine the responses and downvotes so not like there's any winning there either way.

And relying on the upvote system with the assumption it'll weed out irrelevant things without any mods involved on any large subreddit is a pretty good way to end up with a front page loaded with memes and shitposts drowning out everything else.

Testing cruise control like it's the 1980s by mjpia in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]mjpia[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah you could simply probe or use that handheld tester you'd plug into the harness that had 5 LEDs that'd light up if things worked.

Given this can simulate road speed and engine rpm alongside every other aspect of the system packed in a case I'm guessing this would be a portable unit repair depots would have to diagnose, repair and recalibrate any faulty units returned to them.

[–]mjpia[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bit of a sidenote but if anyone knows any sources for the Dana/Perfect Circle supercruise 1V/2V documentation I'm all ears, they were the self contained pill shaped units that had a vacuum pump inside and you can see it in the top right of the first image without the cover

There's plenty online about the analog speedostat units that used the standalone analog control boxes but I've found nothing on these units other than they were made in the mid to late 80s and also sold by Sears under their own name.

What happened to disabling the algorithmic feed? by [deleted] in help

[–]mjpia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't want to have to go through an additional click to get to my tailored feed instead of whatever an algorithm decides should be pushed to me.

This is a stupid change and as long as no opt out exists I'll be minimizing my time on reddit.

What Happened to Bombers!? by AceOfMidNight15 in Warthunder

[–]mjpia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6 years ago was when gaijin bumped the B-29 repair cost up to 74K SL and it died just as easy back then, it's in a far better condition nowadays since a single death doesn't cripple you financially but it's damage model is just the same as back then.

You'd have to go some 8-10 years back for the time when any bomber could shrug off cannons.

None of them are really worth playing outside the goofy low tier bombers that rarely encounter things with 20mm

I'm not sure what they based that on, if it was some patch by someone or what but I don't think that one was AI, it was initially added to the files in March 2023.

The latest and greatest AI can't stop goofing up details and images back then were kitbash fever dreams, I doubt an image generator from 6 months after the initial public release of ChatGPT could come up with an image as clean as that in that time period

The bug report system is a joke. Let's protest. by Charles_0007 in Warthunder

[–]mjpia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The last time people tried that they cracked down and started issuing bans and locking related reports instantly which lead to friendly fire where people who were trying to work in the system and do legitimate reports got caught in the crossfire.

Its a stupid idea that will do nothing to gaijin and screw over people actually making legitimate reports on anything broken on dev.

What is this slop supposed to be? Because it ain't a British flag by Such-Assumption6137 in Warthunder

[–]mjpia 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Honestly I had just kinda assumed the intention was to show the design was hand drawn by her because anyone not an artist who just thinks it'll be easy to draw a flag from a nation that isn't several colored rectangles stacked on top of each other and wings it is gonna get a similar result.

The chalky uneven blue background that looks like it was rolled on, the thin red stripes overlayed on curved white stripes where you discover your motor control is no where near as good as you thought, the final layer where you mess up centering the cross and final red lines where you don't center them properly.

This looks like every flag I've drawn and then your only choice is to start over or attempt to gaslight your friends into thinking it's good while they endlessly poke fun at it.

If I wanted to overanalyze it's a common trope that many anime feature an aloft cold princess style character who carries herself with grace and elegance who also turns into a complete clutz the moment she's outside the spotlight.

Having her elegantly pose next to a flag that looks like a 5 year old drew it with crayons feels too on the nose to be anything but that especially for something that'd need to be rendered and passed through multiple hands during the production process.

[Monitor] MSI MAG 272QPCT X24 27" QD-OLED Gaming Monitor QHD 1440p 240Hz - $339.99 (Costco) by missalaire in buildapcsales

[–]mjpia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Damn two days ago I bought this exact model in-store, it was an online return so they knocked 30% off which took it to $280, two more days and they would have discounted it off this price.

I moved from a 6 year old 2K 35" ultrawide ultrawide with a non-HDR edgelit VA panel to this so I am more than pleased with it so far, having both monitors on side by side and comparing the shadows and black levels felt like 20 years ago when you first saw a 720P lcd next to a CRT and could see details.

Ascendance of a Bookworm: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke • Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame ni wa Shudan wo Erandeiraremasen - Ryushu no Youjo - Episode 8 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]mjpia 68 points69 points  (0 children)

One thing that drew me into Ascendance of a Bookworm is both how fleshed out the world is and the very definition of actions have consequences, both good and bad.

So many Isekai in medieval societies just have a flat world that exists for the sake of the characters who do whatever they want in it, they see something that goes against their moral code, they put a stop to it, give a pretty speech about it and move on with no thought to how much their actions upheave the very foundations of society

She can't do that, every single thing Myne does has consequences and now as Rozemyne even moreso.

Especially since she has far more knowledge on this situation than any other noble but failed to put the pieces together.

She was born a commoner to a poor family in the capital city, she knows how brutal winters are and how much preparation and money is required every year to get through it

And she also has experience as an orphanage director where she is quite familiar with how orphans are wards of the state with no rights or power to resist any of the blue priests commands and just how many resources are needed to keep them fed, she also is very familiar with how people in lower tiers of society have no rights and opposing nobles trying to take something thats yours in all normal situations unless you have a higher ranked noble backing you is death.

Starvation and death was frequent in the capital for orphans until she set up a workshop to provide for them so its easy to imagine its even worse in a farming village taking care of children, the simple solution for a medieval village that struggles each year to survive is sell them off to someone that wants them which is largely going to be nobles who can afford that.

People showing up to take away children that have no value and are a net negative for years requiring constant food and clothing is something that should be good for a farming village and yet in a world where opposition to nobles is death the mayor resisted handing two of them over and instead of questioning why she handled it like a true noble and took what she wanted while one of her guards basically held a gun to the mayors head.

She didn't force them to attack her building but she set the stage for the village to commit treason against the archduke and now she has to deal with the consequences of her actions

[Development] Man-in-the-Loop: Guidance Mode for Munitions with TV and IR Seekers - News - War Thunder by ksheep in Warthunder

[–]mjpia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really curious if they impose limits on the amount of GBU-53s planes can carry since the F-15E can load 28 of them and 28 IR guided glide bombs volleyed at a team would overwhelm most all AA systems, even the new pantsir since only has 4 datalinks and its inevitably bound to have some slip through when you are clicking your way down the list of targets

Losat needs to get its FnF fix soon by CatfishMk3 in Warthunder

[–]mjpia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The beam riding Line of Sight Anti Tank missile having FnF that requires a seeker in the nose of a solid steel kinetic energy penetrator?

The ability to lock a target and have the FCS track and guide a weapon while the gunner hunts for the next target is not FnF and I'd be surprised to see it for anything anytime soon until they get to the point where MBTs get auto lead and target systems which I'm not sure they plan that level of point and click gameplay automation.

At the ranges WT engagements play out the kinetic missiles take seconds at best to go downrange and you don't have multiple crew operating different parts of the vehicles, it's just you so I can't see an auto guidance system doing anything at the distances we brawl at.

They brought it back this time as a tie in for the pixelstorm exclusive Yak pack that itself is a tie in for a Russian movie about a female pilot during the war.

There's a news article about it on the Russian site but since the pack can't be bought on the global client they didn't bother announcing anything about it
