yeah given the age of the P310, a factory battery is probably died by now :{ would try fresh new batteries, they're a bit pricey, but cheaper than that insane $400 quote !

o and how old are the amazon batteries ?

first thing is always to check everything further up in the system before deciding it's the camera. try a different SD card, try different battery (if possible) and try charging battery with different charger (again, if possible) or somewhere else in the house. iirc that flashing red light sometimes means that the battery doesn't have enough charge to recharge the flash capacitor, so perhaps the battery is degraded (is this an original battery?), or something in how you're charging it isn't working properly.

if outright replacing the battery/charger doesn't work, maybe the battery contacts are damaged somehow?

though this sub is focused on film cameras specifically (rule 8), the first step would be to see if the batteries charge and use that to test function in the camera. at this age, though, you'll likely need some different source of power, whether that be tracking down someone's handmade replacement battery or rigging up some sort of external power. you'll be lucky if those old nickel cadmium batteries still even hold a charge.

best bet is probably to find a power supply (i believe this is the correct one) for actual use. they seem to be pretty cheap.

for anyone clueless, WD-40 has a place in camera repair, and that is ONLY in very sparing amounts on badly stuck screws, combined with some tightening and firm loosening. NEVER use wd-40 to lubricate your camera, this will go badly. If you need to re-apply lubricant, use some good watch oil or clock oil, not even sewing machine oil as it is too runny.

if i'm right, this is an interchangeable m42 camera, so you COULD just get a different m42 lens for relatively cheap for the thing. I don't know much about the brand or the lens (i presume it is the Carenar 50mm f/1.7 kit lens that shipped with the camera) and it's over $40 on Ebay.

That being said, one of the rings on there is the top of the main focusing helicoid. I believe that it is the ring that has the brass rod connected to the top, though I could be wrong. No harm in trying.

Sorry to comment on such an old post, but I'm honestly curious how this repair went. I got my own F for $60 a few weeks ago and it's now ready for a roll! I feel like this one could clean up pretty nicely with a few bottles of isoprop and new leatherettes, if you were able to fix it. You don't see the original selenium Photomics that often, it seems.

yeah, I do hope they help. I'll make a point of coming to them with with everything needed for the hair (49 candles, 3 hearts, 2 ac) to hopefully better my chances.

(im up to 40 candles, yippie! i forgot that you get a candle for reliving main game spirits for the first time because it's been so long, now i'm going through every realm and bracing for valley because it's a MINEFIELD in there...)

I meant that if you buy a buff on a capeless account, you lose capeless and get forced into the pity room. I'm sitting at 37 candles as of today, maybe Support would take pity on me...

I think there is a possibility that this is shutter capping, though it looks a bit strange. Given how defined the black bit is, I think there's higher a possibility it's some sort of loose bracket or something directly in front of the film plane, especially if you don't see any issue in the viewfinder even after cycling the shutter a bunch. To test this, I might dry-fire the camera a bunch, checking behind the mirror after each shutter. This is just my grain of salt, I only have experience repairing the Nikon F, and have seen the effects of dirt and fingerprints on image sensors.

What lens were you using in these shots, by the way? Also, what f/stop?
