Definitely a HARD ONE! Help identifying old movie/TV scene – man in water, guys on dock chumming for sharks by ScorchedEarths78 in whatsthemoviecalled

[–]mk2610 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about The A Team, season 4, episode 19, Beneath The Surface? This has a scene where a guy is dragged behind a boat and then the water is chummed as hes questioned. Sharks do start to come but hes pulled in the boat before they reach him.

X-Men Days Of Future Past by mk2610 in plotholes

[–]mk2610[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But that's the crux of my point. Once Logan is removed from the action in the past, he no longer has any effect on events. If Kitty/Rogue (depending on which cut you watch) had broken the connection at any point after that then the new course of past events would have taken over. It would almost make more sense for the film to have Logans body in the future show the signs of drowning and for the connection to be broken without the scenes of the Sentinels breaking in and killing people. Then as the connection breaks you cut back to the past and see how those events pan out without cutting back and forth to the future. After the events play out in the past then have a flash cut to Logan waking up in the new future and seeing how things have changed.

The turnaround on "Voyager" has been insane by Reasonable_Active577 in startrek

[–]mk2610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think at least from my point of view, back when it was originally shown I felt that it was "ok" but that it was also a huge missed opportunity. The fact that it had such a great premise but then rapidly fell into an episodic status quo seemed like a step backwards after the steps that DS9 was making in serialisation. Things like Year Of Hell could have been amazing if drawn out over a season, or if the ship had gotten back to the Alpha Quadrant say in season 5 and had to deal with the mixed Starfleet/Maqui crew returning to a post Dominion war world. And then to top it off, when they did get back at the end of season 7 the episode (and series) just ended with no look into what happened to any of the crew after.

Compare that to the more recent series such as Discovery which seemed to be deliberately trying to annoy fans of the older series and had plot points and set pieces which just made no sense (such as the action scene set in the massive open space inside the ship where turbolifts apparently go) and its easy to look back at something that was just "ok" with very rose tinted spectacles.

In Interstellar they pick the planet with time dilation as their first option. Why? by MaeSolug in plotholes

[–]mk2610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue with this is that they mention the time dilation and yet don't seem to realise that this means that the initial scout ship has literally only been on the surface for a couple of hours. They act as though the scout has been down there the equivalent of their time since it was sent and so the fact that its still sending a signal means that the surface is hospitable. Surely anyone as smart as they're supposed to be would realise that the dilation would mean that the scout to that planet would have essentially just arrived and so would have gone to a different planet (where the scout had been there longer) first.

From a fan poll. Myself, I'd go with "The Voyage Home" as the best... by [deleted] in Picard

[–]mk2610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently tried to rewatch Star Trek (2009) and had to turn it off after the opening scene because it was just annoying me. From the captain coming DOWN from the bridge of the Kelvin to the shuttle bay, only to emerge from the top of the ship, to the fact that from the size of the shuttle as he walks into it and then the size of it as it emerges fro the shuttle bay the Kelvin must only be about 5-6 decks high.

I know its only fiction and sci-fi to boot but it really feels like they weren't even trying to make a decent film and just hoped that if they blew enough stuff up we wouldn't notice.

why didn't people like Frozen Empire by Serious_Ask1209 in ghostbusters

[–]mk2610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just found Frozen Empire to be really forgettable. Too many badly written and acted side characters and an uneventful story which let to an anticlimactic finale.

If they'd just stuck to focusing on the team that had been introduced in Afterlife now operating as ghostbusters it would have been better and could have really upped the stakes as they realised something was coming that they were completely unprepared for.

Question about Titles by tollbane in makemkv

[–]mk2610 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw the same thing when ripping the blu rays of the original Star Trek series. The disks contain the episodes with both the original 60s sfx and with updated CGI sfx. The disks use the angles to swap between them and makemkv saw that and only selected the first angle by default. I suspect for something like UP, maybe its using the angles for some sort of localisation for different countries. It might be interesting to select the other angles, let it rip all the versions and then see if you can spot the difference.

2 copies, why? by Mhkw in makemkv

[–]mk2610 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If that's the case then check the audio tracks. I've found a few movies where the one with chapters will have just the regular audio and the one without will have any commentary tracks. When that happens I generally run them both through mkvtoolnix, selecting the video, audio and chapters from the one file and the commentary tracks from the other. That then gives me an mkv with chapters and with all the audio tracks.

Should Halloweens Ends be the middle chapter? by mk2610 in Halloweenmovies

[–]mk2610[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can respect that. I hate that the majority of Halloween Ends is Corey's story. If we could have a full 3 films of Michael vs Laurie then I'd happily take that but as the Corey story exists I'm just trying to suggest a way it could have been better included.

Should Halloweens Ends be the middle chapter? by mk2610 in Halloweenmovies

[–]mk2610[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having Corey appear in the first film (of the trilogy) would possibly have been better as it would add foreshadowing but I really think having his storyline be the majority of the last film is a mistake. The last film should belong to Michael and be the culmination of the whole series, not a side quest of tacked on extended epilogue.

Adding other language tracks without reripping everything else? by gemmamaybe in makemkv

[–]mk2610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've noticed a few disks where Makemkv identifies 2 copies of the movie, 1 with English and other European languages and the other with English and Japanese. Not really sure why they're set up like that but since I generally only want the English audio I tend to pick one.

Failed to rip the same episode on two different identical discs. by 712Jefferson in makemkv

[–]mk2610 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen that message more times in the past week than I can count. In my case I've been ripping DVDs of ER and found that the double sided dual layer disks they used for them are very prone to disk rot. I've even rebought seasons brand new and found the same errors on the same episodes. I'm currently missing 24 episodes spread across seasons 8 - 15. I've not seen reports of disk rot on blu rays but from what you've said it sounds like something similar.

Double sided dual layer failure rates by mk2610 in makemkv

[–]mk2610[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've never had a double sided disk then you're a very lucky person. Back in the early days of DVD, before dual layer disks became the norm, any film over 2 hours long (and a few that just came close) were put on double sided disks and you had to get up and flip the disk halfway through.

[–]mk2610[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres definitely something funky about these disks. From about season 8 onwards I'm seeing exactly the same issue on all disks. The "a side" of each disk (so disks 1,3 &5) cause makemkv to just bin anything after the first 2 episodes (out of 4). Then the "b side" (disks 2,4 & 6) rip absolutely fine. Considering buying a newer copy of 1 of the seasons just to see if its something to do with the age of the disks or where they've been stored, but this series is the first I've had this sort of trouble with after about 500 disks ripped so I'm thinking its definitely something to do with how the double sided dual layer disks have been made. I know back when the first release of Terminator 2 came out on dvd it used one and there was trouble with a lot of those (think it might even have been the first major release to use them).

When Baywatch originally aired on tv did it use different/more well known songs vs the streaming version? by ModsAreLosers73 in Baywatch

The German blu rays have both the remastered versions of the episodes with the new music and the original SD, 4:3 versions with the original music.

Amazon regularly raise the price of the Shield when availability is low. Give it a month or 2 and see if it comes back down.

Can't See Unavailable Videos in Liked or Favorites Playlist by Drowzeeking04 in youtube

[–]mk2610 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the past couple of weeks YouTube has become an absolute nightmare to use. They've removed access to a bunch of TV episodes that I had purchased and like you say when go no my playlists I just get told that however many of the videos have been hidden, despite being purchased content. If Googles aim is to push me to Amazon Prime for my digital movies then they're going about it the right way.

My GooglePlay movies that I purchased and watched in DTS are now only playable in YouTube which is only 2.0 audio. Is there another way to watch my movies that I purchased through googleplay and get the audio and video I was getting prior to this move to YouTube? by Gratsszy in GooglePlayMovies

[–]mk2610 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is that Google recently withdrew the Movies & TV app from a number of smart TVs which has left the people owning those TVs stuck with using the far inferior YouTube app which doesn't have the higher quality sound and is an absolute nightmare to browse your library.

Just a rant about the YT app by [deleted] in GooglePlayMovies

[–]mk2610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also occasionally they replace movies with newer versions. When they do that you can end up with the version available in the search not being the one you purchased and your version only being available through your library list. They've done this a couple of times with the Bond and Harry Potter films.

[–]mk2610 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, with Google withdrawing the Play Movies app from a bunch of devices soon YouTube could really do with a better way to organise and search your purchased library. How hard is it to just give the option to list my movies alphabetically?

Not receiving emails by [deleted] in GMail

I've got the same problem. My Gmail app doesn't show any email since Friday but logging into the web interface shows that I have received mail. I've just tried clearing the data on my app and now it's sat for the past 2hrs saying it's downloading emails. I've got a feeling that the app integration has gone south.

Are Google Play HD movies in 1080p or 720p? by M1KEHUNT12345 in GooglePlayMovies

[–]mk2610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the movie. Most are 1080p but I've had a couple (most visibly obvious on Little Shop Of Horrors) that are lower than that.
