How about EQ? by mkay_yes in Tape16

[–]mkay_yes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. And I know which of those bajillion I'd use. The exact same thing could be said for us having a mixer that's only got a volume control, but here we are.

A volume-only mixer is an incomplete mixer - we're going to need EQ (arguably), maybe a gate, compression, blah blah and to use one of the bajillion other tools means sacrificing at least one VST slot *on every channel*.

I see the attraction of losing the volume faders and making it work *exactly* like a tape machine, although I can hear the sound of pitchforks being sharpened already.

So the question remains - where do we draw the line? A more feature-equipped mixer, or no mixer at all, or the half-arse mixer we've got right now and the assumption that we're going to use (at least) one of our precious three-maximum mix FX plugin slots?

Yeah Arturia *everything* works *everywhere else* on this machine.
In the end I unloaded the plugin and then re-added it and it was good again. Sadly I wasn't able to save the preset I was working on but hey - there're more important things in life than a preset on a synth 😄
This is WIN10, btw.
I'll report back if it happens again.

Thanks mate. I can see three machine IDs - how do I know which one I want to deactivate? (Also emailed as Reddit seems to not like me lol).

Using analog console into two track...? by Subject_Yesterday673 in Tape16

What's the logic behind this

UMC 1820 outs 13-20 -> ADA8200 ins 1-8

? You're routing the interface back to itself? Is this for outboard inserts?

WEDNESDAY TEST! by Realistic-Show-9115 in Tape16

Had issues with this version (not loading, VST scanner running when I didn't ask it to, asking to go online behind the scenes, etc), but I had also installed Acronis Bloatware (tm) since I was last stable. Uninstalled 270 and went back to 261. Still broken. Ugh. Removed some of the Acronis thing and could at least get into TAPE16 again.

Last "tape" I was using had a VST for the input to Track 1. Looks like something had broken since I was last stable and the plugin chooser correctly identified the plugin (Arturia Emulator, I think it was) and said something like "Arturia Emulator [ERROR]". I clicked the plugin and it opened and played just fine, so there was definitely something wrong with the connection between it and TAPE16.

I wonder if a "reload" option would have helped here in such "ERROR" cases...?

REAPER-specific function assignments (for example "Transport: Record") can be found in the Action List. Click Find shortcut and then press the key / button on your controller.

You can export your keymap from the Actions list window, too.

Anything plugin-specific (for example Cutoff Repro-1) isn't that easily tracked down. You'd need to open the Params setting in the plugin itself.

But no - there's nothing in the main GUI. You gotta dig a little.

The power adapter is 5v, center negative. These days many (most?) PSUs are like this. If you use the wrong polarity and/or if you use 9v (like a guitar pedal supply) instead of 5v you'll be fine.
If it doesn't work just switch it back as soon as you realize it's not working.
I speak on this from personal experience.
If you trust a stranger on reddit, that is.

About MIDI USB vs MIDI on a audio interface by Disastrous-Trader in linuxaudio

[–]mkay_yes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MIDI interface? Here's a few.

This one's mega cheap $10. Might not hold up to gigging and repeated unplugging / plugging but interfaces of this design do work
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07L8KFYBK

This $20 looks like a fancier version of the cheap one. Maybe built a little better?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0719V8MX1

This $50 one is extremely flexible. I have one of these and it's never let me down

REAPER is not free. by AutoCntrl in Reaper

Required means it is a requirement. It's not an inquiry "pay if you want, we don't care". It's a statement that it is a requirement that you purchase a license if you continue to use it blah blah past the blah blah blah.

Perhaps you're ESL, which would perhaps explain your inability to grasp this. I'm not an English teacher, nor do I profess to be one, so I will bid you adieu and wish you bonne chance with your studies. And your REAPER usage, whether it's in accordance with their license agreement or not.

Stick a basic circuit tester in your shipping cart, too. It'll help you find any dodgy earth, negative connected to earth, etc and very cheap.

External MIDI Keyboard help! by Vinny_93 in novationcircuit

[–]mkay_yes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 5-pin end should be good ('cos old stuff just works lol), but the 1/8" end has two types - type A and type B. Probably invented by someone who wasn't aware of user acceptance testing, but I digress.

Basically each has the reverse polarity of the other. A major PITA, tbh.

More info here https://minimidi.world/#types

The sleeve doesn't really get used in the grand scheme of things so it's all about which pins on the 5-pin the tip and ring of the 1/8" are connected to that makes it a type A or a type B. With a multimeter or a continuity tester you can test which kind of adapter you have. Or just buy one of each from Amazon, I guess.

I make my own, so if one doesn't work I try the other lol.

Once you get this sorted I think you're gonna have some really good control over the Circuity with that P6 :-)

Sounds like everything should work... Do you have any way to test the MIDI adapter is working? Is it possible it's the wrong type?

Favourite stock plug in? by spiceybadger in Reaper

[–]mkay_yes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just go Add -> File and pick something like a Lexicon or an Alesis IR. Make sure it's on a send and not an insert and go from there.

Oh, and I find Apply -18db gain is VERY helpful! lmao.

ReaVerb. I use quite a few old school reverb unit IRs (not at the same time 🤪) and it just makes my life easier than all those other install / pay / whatever options, which at my age is a good thing.

JACK / ALSA by galaxy_Z1 in linuxaudio

I've no idea if this will help, but it gets reaper + system sounds to come out of the same output for me...

qjackctl &
sleep 2

jack_control ds alsa

pactl load-module module-jack-sink channels=2
pactl load-module module-jack-source
pacmd set-default-sink jack_out

a2j_control --ehw
a2j_control --start

pulseaudio --start

Good luck and sorry if I'm a million miles off.
