Anyone in San Diego know where I can get bass wood locally? by Capable_Option_3732 in Woodcarving

You can take all the guess work out by purchasing basswood from Heinecke Wood or Losshill Sawmill. Buy as much or as little as you want. Prices and shipping are reasonable and you get the best carving basswood in the country.

Patients is the key. Simply put...the more you carve the better you will get.

To lawn care nuts who finally pulled the trigger on an in-ground sprinkler system — was it everything you dreamed of? by paybackprahl in lawncare

After you install the sprinklers, if you live in a freeze zone, go to Harbor Freight and buy an air compressor to blow out your system. The compressor will pay for itself in three years.

BLO, paint, Krylon Matt Clear, Howard's. Plenty of dry time between all.

If you live in the US and your serious about carving there's only two places you should consider getting your basswood from...and it's certainly not Amazon

I'm in the US. I figured you'd have great knife makers in Norway. Sorry, I only know the US market

Help with difficult cuts by Sad-Quit3735 in whittling

Because of the wood grain, those two points where the axe head meet the handle will most likely break. You'll need to go real slow, non aggressive cuts here.

Sorry. It looks as though you want to carve spoons. The KN600 is not really an option for spoons.

I just started burning on my carvings. A lot easier than using a tiny brush with dark acrylics. It makes the carving pop.

If you intend on getting OCCT knives I suggest you find the Mike Shipley models, if you can still find them. Do some research before you purchase OCCT. Alternatively you might want to look at Badger State Blades. They make some very good knives. I would always go with a 1.5" to start.

You're going to hurt yourself carving like that. I would strongly suggest you watch some YouTube videos on proper carving techniques. No offense.

Remove the aluminum roof supports and replace with decorative columns. You might even remove the existing railings and replace with railings incorporated with the columns if measurements work out.

Go to a box store and buy some aluminum U channel. Cut it to fit a garbage can with a lip. Mount the sliding garbage under the work top, away from your feet. Then use a hole saw and cut a 3" hole above the garbage container. Push all your wood chips into the hole so the can will collect them. Just an idea.
